About Ernest's at NAIT
Ernest's Dining Room at NAIT has been aptly described as the "jewel in the crown" of Hokanson Centre for Culinary Arts in the School of Skilled Trades. Ernest's decor is described as "understated elegance". Tasteful compliments of cherry wood and brass highlights, a beautiful rock feature wall, muted lighting and attention to detail provide the room with a distinct corporate ambience. Critical acclaim and numerous accolades identify the "haute cuisine" prepared by second year Culinary Arts diploma students as "outstanding". OpenTable diners voted top 100 in Canada. Seasoned chef instructors emphasize the importance of using high quality local regional products. Mastery of traditional cookery combined with contemporary artistry has resulted in a truly electric cuisine. Elegant service is provided by eager Culinary and Hospitality students. An emphasis on etiquette and authenticity is encouraged through the guidance of professional mentors.

During the school year Ernest's is a venue for a variety of "special events" allowing students to demonstrate creativity while interacting with the community. The Toque Demagny Scholarship Dinner, Young Culinarians Conquering Cancer, Team NAIT and Le club Culinaire fundraisers, etc... provide students with the opportunity to challenge their personal and professional bests.
We also feature wine dinners with regional wines paired to perfection with our students culinary creations.
Parking Passes must be requested immediately by emailing email@example.com for DAY parking. Parking is FREE after 5pm in Lot "C". Once all the DAY reserved parking permits stalls are reserved you will have to pay to park.
We have a surface lot available to our guests at Lot "C" directly across from the dining room entrance on 118th Avenue. Parking is at a premium during the day, so we do advise an early arrival. Please inform your guests regarding parking permits.

We feature our Student Showcase Buffet on Friday's for lunch. These buffets book fast, please call to reserve. We do serve ala carte lunches during the week. Please note: for groups of 8 guests and larger, Ernest's does add an automatic service charge.
For all banquets, special function and buffet reservations, a service charge will be added automatically.
Ernests at NAIT offers a unique opportunity to have our Culinary Arts students provide an outstanding service by booking one of our semi-private room (up to 27 guests), a private room (up to 60 guests), or the entire restaurant buyout (up to 100 guests).

Wonderfully prepared food. Came with friends for the four course special Christmas dinner and it did not disappoint. Each course was delicious and perfectly prepared. Service was good but our server was still learning the nuances of fine dining service.
Will definitely try to visit this gem more often.

Pleasant servers, good food choices, food allergies addressed. Server tended to place and remove from either side of the people so it was hard to predict and move/lean out of the way, or drinks poured across in front of someone rather than going around to the other side. Seemed awkward for us and the server. Food was tasty, excellent seafood chowder, salad was fine - sort of a deconstructed style. Meatballs appies were very good. Chicken dish was flavorful, beef was melt in your mouth although it was only room temperature. Desserts were very good. I found the cinnamon bun had an over baked top crust but I liked the add in if the pear within the bun and the ice cream was delicious. We will be back.
My husband and I went to Ernest's for our anniversary. It was a great experience as they also had a fixed menu that particular night. Great service and great food for reasonable prices. A great spot for a dinner out.
Service was outstanding. Mandeep took time to get to know the guests, particularly the children. Made for a great evening.
As usual, the food was terrific. Myriad options in the buffet, and all were fantastic.
Very interesting choices included in the buffet - really showcased the creativity of students. It was pricy for a lunch buffet but I truly enjoyed it and will definitely go again.

This restaurant never fails to impress. The food was amazing and the service was perfect.
I took my husband to Ernest's for a special Christmas meal. He had never been there before and was impressed with the meal. He spoke about the the quality of products used, the size of the portions, the value for the meal, the friendly service and the overall experience. It was my second time and I enjoyed it just as much as the first time. We will be back to try their lunch meals as well as their brunch. I have already recommended this restaurant to others and will continue to do so.
The food was excellent. Nice portions and tasty. Our server was pleasant but not really concerned about my needs for a gluten free menu.
Our dining experience with friends was wonderful, the food was superb, the ambiance was beautiful! The staff were well experienced and very cordial. We will definitely come again.

Great food. Fantastic service. We arrived late. Open table set the reservation time for 7:30 but the last seating is 7:15 so a bit of confusion there. Even though we were late we were treated graciously and never felt rushed.
Wonderful food and attentive, caring server. We had an inspiring conversation with chef about soup kitchens and quality food for everyone. NAIT should be proud of the culinary program and the quality of the students it's training.

Wonderful service all night, we felt well looked after and comfortable to take our time to have dinner and visit with friends. Also pleased there was a vegetarian option for the main.

The lunch was absolutely delicious from the in house made butter to the scrumptious desserts. I had the mushroom soup and then the cod for my entree. Both were so flavourful and prepared perfectly.
Service and food were excellent. Prices were what you should pay for the quality of the experience regardless students were the ones preparing the meal. We will definitely go back.
It's always a pleasure to see the students working at Ernest's. Any option off the menu is a good choice.

Large portions don't eat the bread so you can eat your delicious supper.

Wonderful lunch ! No complaints at all. One of us had the lamb shank and was blown away with the flavors. Chicken and petit tenderloin dishes were similar experience too!
The service only lacked a bit due to the inexperience of the staff --let's face it they are students and it was their first day! Absolutely would return --- maybe dinner next time! :)

The food was totally awesome. If you want a good taste and a good variety of it Earnest's is a good place to go.
The not so great part was that our server did not inform us of where all the food was or anything so I had to seek someone to inform us.
Also felt completely rushed. Doors opened later then our 11am booking. After we waited for our waiter to come explain to us where all the food was, we didn't get food on our plate till about 11:20 when we were informed that we had to give up our table at 12pm. This was an anniversary celebration for my spouse and I and 40 minutes to rush to eat and get food was totally unacceptable.
But, friendly staff and very good food.
