Ernest's Dining Room at NAIT has been aptly described as the "jewel in the crown" of Hokanson Centre for Culinary Arts in the School of Skilled Trades. Ernest's decor is described as "understated elegance". Tasteful compliments of cherry wood and brass highlights, a beautiful rock feature wall, muted lighting and attention to detail provide the room with a distinct corporate ambience. Critically acclaimed and numerous accolades identify the "haute cuisine" prepared by second year Culinary Arts diploma students as "outstanding". OpenTable diners voted Ernest's top 100 in Canada for two consecutive years. Seasoned chef instructors emphasize the importance of using high quality local regional products. Mastery of traditional cookery combined with contemporary artistry has resulted in a truly electric cuisine. Elegant service is provided by eager Culinary and Hospitality students. Parking Details
Parking Passes must be requested immediately by emailing twright@nait.ca for DAY parking. Parking is FREE after 5pm in Lot "C". Once all the DAY reserved parking permits stalls are reserved you will have to pay to park.
We have a surface lot available to our guests at Lot "C" directly across from the dining room entrance on 118th Avenue. Parking is at a premium during the day, so we do advise an early arrival. Please inform your guests regarding parking permits.

During the school year Ernest's is a venue for a variety of "special events" allowing students to demonstrate creativity while interacting with the community. The Toque Demagny Scholarship Dinner, Young Culinarians Conquering Cancer, Team NAIT and Le club Culinaire fundraisers, etc... provide students with the opportunity to challenge their personal and professional bests.
We also feature wine dinners with regional wines paired to perfection with our students culinary creations.

We feature our Student Showcase Buffet on Friday's for lunch. These buffets book fast, please call to reserve. We do serve ala carte lunches during the week. Please note: for groups of 8 guests and larger, Ernest's does add an automatic service charge.

Just excellent food. Salmon was wonderful and a very generous serving of crepe brûlée (which was also great). Service was friendly and all of the group thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Food was good the order seemed were the best - the entrees had a lot of spice in them which meant one could not try every Thing as there were to many strong spices. Also the pork was not well done - sorry I am old fashioned and like my pork cooked!
They actually ran out of desserts and I was very sad and surprised as usually there are tons.
The tea I ordered was a waste of a good tea bag as they did not boil the water! We could see the scum on the water in the glass tea pot which told us it was from a machine. Very 😞

Always enjoyable eating here. Food, services, and overall are above and beyond anywhere comparable like the hotels. This is the best high class food in Edmonton.

I do have only one comment, we were a little surprised by the choice of music playing?.. pop?.. and a little loud?
We thought (for an evening meal) there would more of a romantic, or relaxed kind of feel. The lighting and setting definitely was, but I guess we thought like Jazz, dinner music, or instrumental? Overall the experience was excellent.

The food was excellent, but we were there for hours. We were a party of seven, and it took us a while to choose our drink orders. I am thinking that you have to have patience because good food takes time. The entrees weren't brought out as quickly after the first course as one would hope.

My favourite place for lunch or dinner...food is outstanding . Very well priced !
Cannot think of another place that I would like to go to where you can actually
eat, and hear yourself and the people at the table speak without all the loud
music and noise that is always at other dining choices...

We had a small group and had a great evening There was a special menu and the food was great for all I did order the squid for my main and it was rubbery but ordered the char as a replacement and it was exceptional Everyone left happy and with full bellies

Just fabulous yet again. The hors d'oeuvres and canapes were amazing. I've not been to another restaurant where I kept saying 'wow' at all the wonderful tastes. Difficult to single out on particular item, but the pumpkin latte was very different and memorable. For the main dishes, the sweet potato puree was especially tasty. For the deserts, words fail me - all wonderful - we had far too much. The hazelnut cream Paris-Brest was heavenly. All this topped off with exceptional service. Congratulations to all the students - you all looked so proud of your creations and rightly so. You all deserve and least 6 stars.

The buffet is so good. There are always new foods and every time I have gone, I have found something that is so delicious, I want to eat as much as I can. I really enjoy going to Ernest’s.

The students did an amazing job. Food and drinks were amazing.
Was disappointed that we were asked to pay our bill and that our table was needed when we hadn’t had desserts yet by the staff running the front. Felt rushed

Wow ! Ernest's exceeded our expectation and we will be back for sure many time in the future. Our waiter was discreet & professional and we have not had better service in a while in Edmonton !
What to say about the food - from amuse bouche (complimentary) to house made chocolates (complimentary) we were blown away by the quality of ingredients and preparations. As we have celebrated birthday, they congratulated our daughter and wrote Happy Birthday in chocolate on her dessert :)

We having been coming once a year from outside Calgary for The Alberta Golf Association buying show. The past four occasions have been a lovely treat for us. Each time has been a unique and wonderful experience. It’s wonderful for us to be able to enjoy a fabulous meal, team build for ourselves and participate in watching young minds and people grow. Thumbs up to each of the students, teachers, faculty over the last four seasons.

It was absolutely amazing one of the best dining experience I’ve had in Edmonton

One thing is the hostess seemed a little preoccupied with something which is very minor

the staff were very accommodating of a guleten allergy and very fresh and amazing selection of local foods

The food was amazing although I was disappointed with the dessert menu. I wish there would have been more options. We opted to skip dessert and go elsewhere for that. Our server was fantastic. She brought us a bread basket several times. We definitely did not leave hungry. She was very friendly and joked around with us. The value was amazing. I was expecting to spend twice what we did so I was happily surprised when the bill came.

We often use Earnests for entertaining business clients. It is wonderful to share such a hidden gem with them. Our most recent visit we chose the "table de hote" student led menu. We made that choice and sat back to enjoy a wonderful evening. Menu details, wine pairings, service and GREAT Food.

We are from Winnipeg and were very interested in trying Edmontons version of the culinary up and comers.
Our experience Red River College in Winnipeg have a similar programe where the dining is done in an beautifully updated historic building which used to be the Royal bank downtown now known as 'Janes' where students cook in an open kitchen for two week periods and then switch to serving the clientele for another two weeks as this gives then a good feel on how to deal with the public and we can say the presentation of the food is outstanding and extremelt tasty!
Our visit to Ernest's was very disappointing as my wife had the Duck Confeit Rossetto which was horribly salty and as a result she left 90% of her dinner something that should have been addressed by the serving staff which was not! My beef tenderloin was cool with a very few vegetables. Appetisers we alright but charging $17 for three shrimp which was supposed to be 'Prawns' was a joke cold again. It is very important that both serving staff and kitchen personal work together mind you that said the servers were polite.
Perhaps the next time we are in Edmonton we will probably give it another try and hopefully with better results ...hopefully!

Another exceptional evening at Ernest’s. Three of us had different mains. We were all very happy diners! We absolutely recommend everyone check out the amazing food and service. These students are clearly receiving top notch training.

Everything about our meal was oustanding except the service . We found our server to be adequate and good but we are used to energetic , and very attentive service at your restaurant. The server we had is not in the culinary program and that is probably the reason.

A friend and I went to celebrate our birthdays. The menu was fabulous - we both had trouble deciding which of the dishes we wanted to try most We enjoyed the food and the service was exceptional. We felt quite spoiled by little extras that Ernest's offers.

Food and service was fantastic. Seating layout was tight. Many times my chair was bumped by other patrons as a result of the tables and chairs being too close together, resulting in walk aisles that were quite narrow. Dessert bar had a continuous crowd around the hot service end of it, again creating an issue on walk space and bumping the patrons chair in the immediate vicinity.
