We like to have fun in the kitchen. We serve small plates so you can try more than one dish. We use local ingredients wherever possible. We’re inspired by where we live, places we’ve been and things we’d like to do.

Yes I would recomend but would say : All good ... just a bit overpriced ... with tip over 330$ for 2.
A bit more choice for vegetarian would be appreciated but effort is already done, thank you.
Incredible dishes and amazing service! A must-try (and return) in Ottawa. The flavours and presentation are top notch. Only reason I did not go full 5 stars as it has a very open style concept and I find prices and food such as Fauna's deserve a bit more intimate dining experience.
I went for a special occasion and they graciously provided complimentary sparkling wine. Very classy act guys!
- Diverse enough menu to appease but not too big to complicate decision
- Impressive wine list
- Innovative plates and flavours
- Friendly but not overwhelming service
- none!... maybe parking but that's not their fault.
Fauna had the worst attempt at vegan cuisine that I have ever had. As a vegan I know that my options will be limited, but normally I end up with a really great dish. My experience at Fauna was my worst vegan eating experience thus far. The service was sub par as well. It was clear that our server just wanted to get us in and out as quickly as possible (we had a party of 6). I’m not sure how Fauna landed on Canada’s Top 100 restaurants. It doesn’t leave me wanting to try and of the other restaurants on that list!
The noise level was very high. It was difficult to have a conversation. I chose the pasta option. The gnocchi was not very flavorful and was in a nondescript watery broth. No bread was served with the gnocchi, so even if the broth was flavorful, it could be "mopped " up. My two companions chose the mussels and were complimentary. Our water glasses were not filled when empty and I don’t recall being thanked on exiting the restaurant.
As always, it was terrific to be back for lunch. The service is still outstanding.
We had a very good meal at Fauna this past week. The halibut was delicious as well as the rabbit dish.
A little surprised that they did not have one Chardonnay on their wine list from California as I do like the more oaky chards.
Nice restaurant. Nice menus, beautifull and clean location. Glad I discovered this place. Will come again.
For a restaurant that is supposed to be one of the best in the country, we found it very underwhelming.
Of the four dishes we ordered, one was very good, but the other three were mediocre at best, and certainly not worth the price (and I almost never say this about food at a restaurant).
Our server, although very nice, was not knowledgeable about the menu or the wines. One of the dishes we ordered did not come as described in the menu, and our server had not been made aware. The server that actually dropped this dish off was unfriendly and didn’t say a word to us as he put it on the table, let alone explain the dish. We found this highly irregular for a restaurant of this standard.
It was my husband’s birthday meal, and overall we were very let down by a restaurant we were very excited to check out. We won’t be returning, and can not recommend it to others over some of the restaurants in the same price point, but with much better food and service (Stofa for example)
Fauna is one of my most favourite restaurants in Ottawa. I often use it for lunch/business lunch or a big party as Fauna has a lovely private room. The service is fantastic. I am very grateful as Fauna staff has always been very attentive to request I make before coming to the restaurant. Additionally, Fauna has a list of natural wines.
The food was amazing! I would have liked the noise level to be a bit lower, but aside from that, it was an amazing experience.
Very loud, hard to hear the person you are with. Server was not very attentive. I told her that I could not handle spicy food and the first dish came out with a spicy sauce touching 30% of the food. I let her know when she picked up my plate that it was indeed spicy and to make sure my main wasn't spicy, which she took back to no spices, and the food was horrifically bland. (my friend had the same dish and it was delicious) A good server would take the time to get to know what the issue is and to make sure that they are doing the best for their customer. Disappointed considering this was one of the top 100 restaurants in Canada and it was my choice to come here on my travels.
Amazing food, best in Ottawa!
Quick friendly service in a welcoming venu. The pear rhubarb soup was a delicious combination of flavours and the duck bison tortiere was delicately balanced with a perfect chutney. Both desserts, too good to pass up, were shared between friends and completed a most wonderful meal.
Saw Fauna on the list of best restaurants and thought I would try it for my husband B-D and it did not disappoint. The food was amazing the wine list was nice, deserts are original. Very nice night out.
The steak here is insane
The server was not very attentive. Drinks were empty for 10 minutes before she came by.
Both the salmon and the eggplant apps were just ok. The big disappointment was the rib eye for two. The blue cheese culture on it made it taste awful (And we like blue cheese) and that wasn’t pointed out on ordering.
Although the burger patty was juicy, as a whole, it was on the salty side and could be better with a slice of tomato or some lettuce.
Beautifully and prepared ribeye dinner. Worth the drive from Toronto. Highly recommend this restaurant.
I eat here all the time and I would say they are probably the best kitchen in Ottawa.
Always love our visits at Fauna!
Bouffe excellente, service rapide. Un petit effort a été fait pour parler en Français. Belle carte de vins. On y retourne.
It was a mother-daughter day, time together to chat and enjoy each other's company. We were given a corner window seat and just the right amount of attention by our server. The food was delicious, a wonderful pairing of flavours on the palate. I had the duck and Mom had the scallops. Both very tasty and perfectly cooked. Bravo to the chef and his team. We will be back! And, I think maybe next time I go it will be for a romantic dinner with my husband.
I highly recommend Fauna.
Sous vide arctic char that melted in my mouth and Ostrich tartar that was perfect.
The great bourbon selection goes a long was as well!
Outstanding! The best advice is order the chef’s tasting menu.
Ambiance, service, quality of food, wine selection and seating was excellent. The level of sound was quite high, voices bouncing around, but that seems to be a norm these days. Perhaps a little larger serving size per small plate would be nice too. Thank you
Very good but pricey. The beer, in particularly, was outrageously priced, in my opinion. I've had the same beer at Crust & Crate, for example, for $4 less a can. Otherwise, a very pleasant experience.
Great food, service and ambiance, although some of the tables are bit too close to each other. Great creative selection of items, but overall we ended up spending way more than expected. Maybe the drinks are a bit overpriced, and its better to stick to the food...
Really small plates for the price that you pay. Food is good thou
Easy parking - beautiful dining space. One waiter - very helpful; second waiter, somewhat aloof. Portions small but exquisite. Exotic wine list - very few selections easily obtainable through LCBO. Definitely not a $$ Restaurant on Open Table, but a great experience if you want to spend $$$
In general, the food was pretty good. The beef was amazing, but the curry was a bit blend. The service was amazing and we didn't wait to get our food serve. A bit noisy but not too much. Overall, a good place to go once in a while. And the chocolate desert.... AMAZING !
What an amazing find! After a hair raising drive into Ottawa we were ready for a really good dinner and great service. Fauna was all that and then some! Julian is an amazing bartender and server (ask for his Award winning black pepper lemonade!) and his recommendations were spot on. Had the Rib Eye dinner for Two - no regrets there either. We were lucky it was a quiet night (March Break) so it was lovely and relaxed evening. Fantastic beverage selection and cocktail menu to add to the experience.
I'll be back in two weeks!! And then I'll be back with friends. Bravo!
The food was amazing and we had an excellent time. Quite enjoyable.
From entering, service, ambiance, decor... loved it
Food was delicious, service was excellent. Expensive. If you enjoy quantity over quality look elsewhere.
The food at Fauna was unbelievable- the plates were stunning & every bite we ate we were impressed. The server really should consider another industry beyond hospitality as he had no time for us & his mannerisms & tone were rude. This place otherwise would’ve been perfect. We would absolutely go back again but ensure we are not sat in the one server’s area.
We thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The staff were extremely courteous from the moment we walked in.
Service was excellent as was the food. We had not heard of the restaurant before and were pleased to have the opportunity to try it, a friend had generously given us a gift certificate which more than covered the bill. There was good variety to choose from and it was definitely not a run of the mill menu.
We look forward to returning. We went on a Friday, it was very busy but they employ enough staff to ensure the service was excellent and we were served in the appropriate amount of time. My duck was excellent, my husband's scallops looked very good he enjoyed them). We enjoyed our dessert, it was called a chocolate mousse but seemed to have a few other components to it. Our coffees came with a lovely little biscuit on the side, an unexpected surprise.
Love the food and location. Waiter seemed uninterested which was a bit of a contrast to the ambiance.
