Outstaning on all levels. We were celebrating three generations of birthdays and the restaurant made everyone feel very special. Soufflé for dessert is an absolute must!
Great food, great view, great service. An outstanding experience.
from the arrival time being greeted by the hostess and the server taking our order the food presentation and food are second to none. it was really a fine dining serving to start to finish. the staff are all professional and no question on my mind that five sails is still the best in town.
The whole evening was just awesome. The food was exquisite, the wine excellent and the service very good.
We have dined here many time and the food and service are always impeccable!
Service was great! Ambience and view terrific. Food was good but not outstanding, especially given the gourmet prices.
Amazing place! Excellent food, great service and a beautiful view. My new favourite restaurant!! What a great experience it has been!
Excellent chef's tasting menu with wine pairings, all dishes tender and delicious.
Attentive service from staff who were very well informed.
Ambience slightly disrupted by large, loud party not adherent to dress code - they left early into the dinner however.
Celebration Birthday my pre birthday and my brother early birthday. Family gathering.
We had a great experience. Service was excellent. Food was excellent and a great wine selection also.
The service was great, though prices could have been better. Quite pricey for small portions.
We were there with our family & cant say enough about it. The service, the food & the ambiance was amazing! Will definitely come back next time we’re in Vancouver.
Great dinner, service and view
It's hard to choose another place in Vancouver when thinking of a high-end dinner reservation. I perused all of the other options, all very fine restaurants with great reviews, but in the end, the view and the ambiance, along with the great food, service and friendliness wins out every time!
Staff very knowledgeable, service punctual, food is worth many visits!! Going again for sure!! Eager to accommodate dietary needs. :)
The food and service were excellent, could not ask for better. The view and atmosphere were incredible. Had a great time there.
Good price quality
Taste so good and good service too
Always nice to be remembered and welcomed so warmly when we arrived (early) for our reservation. Everything is just so seamless. Our meals were perfect and served as requested. The view is awesome. And of course, Gerry is the perfect host. We'll be back soon as there are a few menu items that still need sampling.
Everything was done in perfection.
My go to place for Valentine’s Day!
Great service, great food can't wait to dine here again
I have always loved this restaurant but was disappointed at our last visit 2 nights ago. The scallop appetizer, 2 for $24.00, had always been my favourite. This time, the scallops were much smaller and chewier. Three of the 6 people had the ravioli appetizer and they were very happy with it. The only salad one the menu was only okay. The lamb was enjoyed by those who had it but the fresh halibut was not particularly tasteful. The desserts, particularly the lemon one, were excellent. The presentation of all the dishes was wonderful! Unfortunately, the service was not up to par so we felt that the 18 percent tip which was imposed on us was not justified. One might wonder if there had been only 5 of us, if the service may have been better as the tip was not assumed. When making the reservation, it had been mentioned that it was a birthday celebration. Jason phoned to confirm the reservation and the fact that it was someone's birthday. There was no recognition of this special event by the staff.
The food, wine, and service were great. However it was a bit “fancy” to be “fancy”. Would recommend in the summer when you would have better views of the water/mountains.
Come every year
Very friendly and warm
Enjoy very much
Loved the entire evening. From start to finish. Service , food and ambience
This is our favirite restaurant and never disappoints.
We went to five sails for my birthday dinner. We were looking for a great Vancouver fine dining restaurant with a great view. We defiantly found it. We also found the restaurant to have a very comfortable vibe, and didn't feel uptight. The staff were great and made an effort to make me feel special on my birthday, and even surpised me with a cake. We had a table right by the window, which offers a view unlike any other restaurant I have been to in the city. Makes it worth the cost. I highly recommend this restaurant and the especially the Lamb.
The service was good，and food quality was also fantastic. The sea sight view was amazing.
We had a wonderful table overlooking the water and enjoyed a complimentary sampling of parsnip soup with smoked salmon.. delicious! Dinner was well prepared and topped off with a grand marnier soufflé. A fabulous dinner in a great location!
Very attentive service and excellent quality of food. Will go back for sure when I am next in Vancouver
Impressed with the wonderful, professional waiters. Excellent food, great view, and attentive service. Good place to celebrate an adult birthday, anniversary or other special occasion.
I would be hard-pressed to find any fault with this restaurant. It is our second time there and this time it was just as perfect as the first time. It’s such a special place to dine. Amazing to go home feeling that you have had an incredible Culinary experience.
A great experience overall. We always appreciate the staff’s friendly approach. We also were pleased with the nice birthday acknowledgment, but we would not have ordered dessert if we’d known that birthday treats were coming.
Wonderful experience to dine at Five Sails. Love the quiet ambience. Wonderful hosts, great servers, delicious food. Portions are just the right size. Love to take guests or visitors there.
Outstanding service. Fantastic location. Great View overlooking the harbour.
However, the interior is plane outdated and dull. No ambience.
You do not create a cozy atmosphere when you are serving a fixed menue and you only have the table for two hours.
Then you create a busy environment as you have parties coming and going during the first 4 hours.
But you of course maximize your profits.
Pricelevel did not match the quality of the food.
The food was well prepared but unimaginative and somewhat plain.
Although I am no expert, it was clear that the wine card was extremely limited.
I noticed that the management of the five sails has gone on vacation for the next 2 weeks.
I hope you are going to Copenhagen to try out restaurants with the same price level. You will be both inspired and surprised.
The cocktails started our evening. Very delicious and unique. The meal was fabulous. Duck was so juicy and tender. Lamb was exceptional and tastefully prepared. The soufflé was outstanding. Well worth ordering it ahead of time. The service was first class. We are always so happy with this restaurant.
Food there was really nice! I love foie gras the most and the Alberta beef also tasty and fresh! But the waitor who severed us was not very enthusiastic.
A truly memorable meal. For ambiance, service and food this restaurant is five star. The seafood dishes were sublime however the tenderloin was probably one of the best my husband has ordered and that's his usual choice from a menu. We would highly recommend this restaurant and can't wait to return.
The view is fantastic and the food is even better! Don't miss a chance to experience the Chef's outstanding creations. I can't believe we've never been to this local gem.
We dined at Five Sails on this Christmas Day evening. It was simply fantastic.
The food was out of this world. Chef Ernst Dorfler continues to have the magic touch that has always set him apart as a Vancouver favorite.
The charming, unpretentious, unobtrusive service overseen by wonderful Gerry Sayers who adds a gracious style to the dinner service.
The guitarist was perfect. Just adding enough upbeat music in the background. Most of all we love that diners can hear each other talk. Christmas touches of crackers with silly hats, jokes, riddles all added to the festivities!
Other restaurants should take a page out of the “Five Sails” book. Simple quietening carpet, tastefully upholstered, comfortable “armed” dining chairs. Gorgeous starched tablecloths, simple candle light and flowers added to the twinkle of the room. All this topped off by the incredible harbour and “sail” views.
The extensive, well chosen, worldly wine list attracts Vancouver wine lovers having reasonably priced options along with very high end ones. Something for all budgets.
This was truly a magical dinner for our knowledgable, food loving guests on this 2018 Christmas Day .
