We were able to change our reservation time at the last minute and our server, Ryan, was lovely. He patiently explained all the dishes and wisely did not enter the order for our 5th dish until we had eaten most of the first 4. He was right. We were way too full to eat more. For 3 adults with a beer each I thought $133 was pretty good. We had the bison carpaccio, cast iron pan bread, Gelderman pork chop, and smoked duck breast. The dishes were described as being intended to be shared but I didn't think it would work very well that way. However, it worked just fine. And the food was all very tasty. Pork and duck both moist and tender. We ate quite early but even once the restaurant was full the noise level was low enough that we could talk at a normal volume and hear each other easily.
BC cuisine showcased at its best. Extremely fresh, and innovative menu. Wonderfully plated. Tried the salmon and duck, as well as oysters! Had the beer flight which includes a small appetizer. Too bad we didnt have room for dessert! Has a buffalo plate for an extremely unique Canadian experience.
We had a great time at forage. The bison carpaccio is very light as is the caramel dessert. Service is attentive. Beer is really good! Overall worth the visit.
Enjoyed my meal very much. Food was creative with wonderful choices. Only criticism was had to wait 10 minutes past our reservation time. A very popular place!
We had so much fun at Forage! The staff was very friendly and the food very delicious!
What a fantastic dinner! One of the best meals we've had! Our waiter was fantastic, great personality and recommendations. We decided to order the mushroom dish and then the bison board. Everything was beyond delicious! The preparations and flavors were perfect. Delicious cocktails, too! A must-go-to while in town!
The service was VERY poor and inattentive. We had a business meeting there, 6 guests, I recommended this place because I've been there over a year ago. Well... lots changed since then!
The menu had very little choice for my diet requirements (GF, Vegan) so I ended up with a plate full of fried mushrooms with garlic and few cooked blueberries as a sauce. 1st of all it was not a meal, it was a side dish, and second, it was absolutely terrible combination. It's like putting a whipped cream on a spaghetti bolognese.
We got our dishes served in a different times so by the time the last person got their meal, the first served person's dinner was cold.
Total embarrassment in front of my clients.
We ordered drinks which came about 15 mins later and to order the second one we had to literally go to the bar. Where was our server???!!!
Very, very, very bad experience. And absolutely overpriced...
NEVER EVER going back to this restaurant.
If you're a meat eater, going to Forage with friends and don't mind cold food, go for it. Oh and forget about a second drink.... No one there to take your order!
If you haven't had a chance to try Forage, you simply must. The food is amazing and is continually being updated to what is freshest and best at the time.
Give it a shot, you won't be disappointed.
Amazing first experience. The service was exceptional and the food fantastic. We’ll be back for sure!!
Delicious and memorable. Worth the price five times over.
For sure a foodie restaurant. I made the mistake of taking a non-foodie who was surprised by the preparation and additions to certain dishes. That aside, the food was great and creative if you are looking to try something new and exciting. The beer flight was also a fun touch.
I have been here many times and have always been impressed. Our server forgot our drinks and they didn't arrive until the food came. I was quite embarrassed as I brought people and talked very highly of the restaurant. It's also time to get a vegan option. Its not fair being charged for a meal that includes meat and eggs and you end up getting a smaller portion because you are omitting it. It would have been nice to get more veggies instead. I won't be recommending this restaurant to guests that I serve anymore. There are so many other options in Vancouver.
Food was excellent and the restaurant was great. For a nicer restaurant the staff seemed very casually dressed. They could have dressed more uniform
We went on Valentine’s Day and got the special board which consisted only of meat and fish. It was a shame that for the price (150 CAD) there were no accompaniments. The meat/fish was either undercooked or salty and so we were a bit disappointed but overall the food was still good but quite pricey for what it was. We would try again but order from the normal menu.
There is nothing on the menu that isn’t incredible - and I can say that having returned for a second visit in 4 days with different plates enjoyed each time. Josh was our engaging and enthusiastic host on Monday evening; he set the stage for our first journey across sea, sky, land and soil. His knowledge of, and pride in, the offerings was contagious...so much so that I brought Australian colleagues in on Thursday to be introduced to amazing Canadian food (which I tried to pretend was “typically Canadian”...I wish!!). Tori was our Thursday host; her descriptions of the plates were so passionate and (dare I say) sensuous that we simply said yes to everything she suggested. Not one mistake made - we savoured every. single.bite. We were fortunate to have got a table with our afternoon of reservation - Thursday is clearly the beginning of the weekend at Forage. Regardless, Tori gave us what seemed to be undivided attention through the evening, though I suspect that all of us at her many tables felt the same. As we were leaving, Josh (who had arrived for supper with friends on his night off - and doesn’t that say something positive about Forage?) recognized me and came over for a big hug...a perfect close to my visit to Vancouver and to my second to Forage!
What a phenomenal dinner spot. Took my dad and partner there for my dad's 75th birthday and we had an incredible dining experience. The food was to die for and the staff were friendly and brought a really nice vibe to our evening. They even treated us to a couple of complimentary desserts for his birthday! We love coming here and will certainly do so again!
Out third dining experience at Forage, first for brunch. Halibut Benny was quite possibly one of the best breakfast meals I’ve had in awhile. My wife’s Gf toast was fresh (always a nice barometer of the care a restaurant puts into its GF options) and the accompanying jams are all house made. Even the ketchup. It’s the little things sometimes that truly set a place apart from others and Forage does this well.
Our server Andrew was great.
Food was delicious.
We went for my wife's birthday - we just relocated to Vancouver so picking this place was a shot in the dark. Wow! It blew our minds. It was outstanding, creative, delicious, generous, and yet not overly filling. Our waiter, Sebastian, was extremely helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable. What a lovely surprise! Dessert - a chocolate cube - was the perfect ending to an otherwise great discovery of local BC ingredients and cuisine. Go for the wine flight, a perfect introduction to local vineyards.
My fave place in the city. The staff are always so wonderful and the food is fantastic!
Great staff. Great cocktails. Great oysters. Great steak. Great fish. Nothing missed the mark. The pork floss on the Brussels sprouts was quite divine. I would happily come back to this spot again and again.
Forage is one of my favourite restaurants in Vancouver and my latest experience just confirms my opinion!!!. I was attending a conference in Vancouver with friends from all across Canada and the US and the Cayman Islands. Our reservation increased from 4 to 12 people over a 45 minute period but the wonderful staff at the Forge managed to accommodated us all. !! And the food and the service was spectacularly wonderful. Thank you so much.
food was delicious and service was amazing. I cannot wait to visit again.
Everything was great until we were asked to pay our bill saying they had another reservation waiting. We had only been at our table 55 mins. We mentioned this to hostess but she said nothing - no apology- nothing so it soured our otherwise great breakfasts
We went for Dine Out and thoroughly enjoyed it. I had done my research and knew it was well-reviewed, and I liked their local/sustainable menu choices. We added the duck chowder as a fourth course and it was one of the best chowders I've ever had (it did win the Chowder Chowdown at the Vancouver Aquarium last year, so not surprising). I had high hopes for the Cheese Puff dessert, as I had read a review claiming it might be Vancouver's best desert - and yes, it was well done with great delivery, but I'm just personally not a huge fan of cream cheese-y desserts, so I'll try one of their others next time.
4 stars for ambiance only because there was a noticeable amount of cold/fluorescent lighting in the back room, but not a huge deal.
Love the chowder and scone. Great service. Great ambiance.
Always such a great experience. Great food, wine and amazing service.
The soup was too salty and the dessert was super sweet.
The food is always reliably good. I messed up the reservations on Open Table and called the restaurant, they did their best to still accommodate my party. A really great restaurant.
Outstanding food as usual. The Dine Out menu offered exceptional value and taste and the wine pairings were terrific. I appreciate how much the staff know about the food and wines.
Food was creative and tasty. Service was friendly and attentive.
First time here for dine out. Came with a date. Was told the regular menu would be available along with dine out. The regular menu online was different then the one in house. So items I wanted were not available.
Friends food was cold when brought out but server quickly got it fixed up.
Very cozy spot, tables close together. For the price I would have liked a bit bigger portions.
Will try again maybe next year
The food was delicious and imaginative. The service was very attentive. The atmosphere was quiet and relaxed during most of our meal, to our delight. We were at the 5pm seating for Dine-out Vancouver and the restaurant was half full. By the time we were leaving around 6:30 it was full and, I suppose, could be called 'energetic', but was too noisy for our comfort. We would return, making sure we went at a quiet time.
Sebastion our server was excellent!
The food was wonderful!
Amazing breakfast / brunch! Great quality ingredients and a lovely atmosphere. Definitely book as people behind us who tried to come in without a table we’re told it would be a 2 hour wait!! We would definitely return next time we were in Canada. thank you! From the UK :)
Amazing service and food! I can’t wait to go back for their spring menu.
I am a big fan of Forage and chose this restaurant for my 50th birthday. Unfortunately it happened to be Dineout Vancouver, so we did not have the kind of experience we usually have. The set menu food was good, but very small portions. I was disappointed that though the restaurant was told multiple times that it was a big birthday, there was no mention of it by our waiter. I will go back to Forage but I feel like they need to win me over again.
Tried their 2020 Dine Out menu and was quite pleased overall. I was able to try all 3 appetizers and was a huge fan of the mushroom one, and thought the duck was also pretty good. For my main, I had the Bison steak, which was cooked to a perfect medium rare, and went well with the potatoes it was served with. The cheese puff was also quite satisfying. However, what made the visit extra enjoyable was our server. He was knowledgeably, friendly, energetic and seemed super perky/happy overall. It was a pleasure interacting with him.
