Diners' Choice Winners: Best Overall
Winnipeg's best restaurants based upon thousands of OpenTable diner reviews
I have been to the restaurant several times in the last few months and each time I have been very impressed with both the food and the service. I have tried several items from the breakfast and also the new brunch menu. The dishes are inventive, tasty and I appreciate that the chef is using local ingredients. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a great dining experience! I also recently came for a dinner meal to celebrate my wedding anniversary and both my husband and myself cannot say enough about the evening. The staff made sure to seat us in a great location and went above and beyond to make sure we had a special night. The food was amazing and we enjoyed each and every dish that we ate. Food was so good that it was worth it to endure the slow service. We had reservations, but still had to wait half an hour at the bar for our table. Couldn't get service at the bar. Eventually got seated. eventually got the menu. Eventually got our orders taken. Wait for the actual food wasn't too bad. Very loud in the dining room. Cafe Carlo has a policy where diners are given only 90 minutes at their table, yet due to slow service we were there for 2 hours. I don't understand it - I counted only 11 occupied tables and 3 serving staff, so I have no explanation for why it was so slow. So here's why I will be back - the food was just that good to turn around an otherwise miserable dining experience. So cheers to the kitchen! FYI - there's an option on the menu to buy the cooks a round of beers. I recommend that instead of leaving a tip for the poor serving staff. MoreOpenTable Diner -

Authentic Japanese ramen comes to Winnipeg!
Ramen Takeuma is owned and operated by Atsushi Kawazu, a Japanese native from Kyoto, who was trained in Japan to make Ramen and will be opening a ramen shop in the near future. Until then, a temporary pop up event has been started to see how Winnipegers respond to authentic ramen and conduct market research.
This pop-up event runs from July 10 to August 23 at 937 Portage Ave (formally Café Ce Soir restaurant) and features a 4-course meal of Gomae (Japanese style spinach), Tatsuta-age (deep-fried chicken), Ramen and Dessert. Non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages such as Japanese beer and sake may be purchased on site. You may also bring your own wine for a corking fee of $12. Following the meal, diners will be invited to participate in an online survey.
