I’ve been a fan of Garrison for two plus years since I moved to DC. It always was a dependable reliable great place with good ingredients great recipes and good service. I dined 10 to 15 times over two and a half years. When I read this morning that tonight was the last night of service I was dismayed and booked a table immediately and especially because a good friend who I had met there was in town. Unfortunately the last experience was very poor. Garrison didn’t take care of us and didn’t honor our reservation; they didn’t meet their commitment to us and we went elsewhere and had a great time but, you know, we missed what might’ve been a great sayonara to a great place. I wish the chef the best. But I’m going to go to his next place with a question in mind now about how he treats loyal guests. I’ll be providing a more detailed letter to the Washington Post and the New York Times. This place was good enough that it warrants a watch.

Garrison is one of the few places I've found in the year I've lived here that I really love. They are consistently warm, welcoming, unpretentious, with delicious food and drink. I am so sad to see them close. The neighborhood will not be the same without them!

I've been to Garrison twice now. The first time was great. Superb even! This second time, though, you'd think the kitchen had never prepared for a full house before. 1 of our 3 apps came out 45 minutes after ordering followed by our mains. The serve actually told us that the kitchen was so backed up it was no longer preparing apps. One of the members of our party found her food cold and the garlic totally blackened. It's a shame because I expected more

Service on New Years has been an absolute disaster. We were given the incorrect drinks twice, the pacing for courses was uneven, there was no explanation of the food when it was served, and one tall bearded server in particular was rude with guests. Look, I get if the waitstaff doesn’t want to be here tonight, just don’t advertise it as a New Years dinner. We’ve felt rushed and for the price it has been an extreme disappointment.

Wonderful as always. Even when you *think* you know how the dishes will taste, intriguing surprises await. The seasonal items this time included fried celery root and a robustly flavorful gingerbread dessert. Good service and nice wine options. A great place for holiday dinner with family.

We started with the gougeres which are delightful. The waiter recommended the cabrito and two people had that and said it was amazing. I appreciated being able to have a half portion of the lovely pumpkin pasta, and we all admired the cheeseburger which was also delicious.

My wife and I ate at Garrison this past Saturday evening and were very much impressed, particularly given we drove from Potomac MD to the Hill. The restaurant reminded us of Dabney, given the focus on local fresh offerings from the DC region and attention to excellent food - except at a lesser cost and more relaxing atmosphere. The service was also great and my wife who is a "foodie," favorably commented on the components and preparation of each dish. And the menu offered a significant variety of vegetarian dishes, more than we have encountered at most restaurants. We will gladly drive the 40+ minutes to eat again at Garrison.

We arrived 10 minutes late for our reservation after returning the call confirming that we were coming, and found that they had given our table away! They didn't admit that at first, saying "we're working it out" when asked after several minutes wait if everything was OK with our reservation, but ultimately did reveal what had happened. Well, "working it out" turned out to be putting us right in front of the door and giving us blankets in a futile attempt to keep warm. Our waitress was very helpful, but ultimately my abiding memory of the evening was being cold, being strung along, and having to really push to get anything at all comped for their mistake.

Evening was a huge miss on Garrison’s part. We came for the Sunday family style dinner, a roast chicken that was served at best lukewarm. One of the three sides had also been sitting, far below serving temperature. We sent the chicken back and when we finally digged in it just was’t very good at all - a cassoulet of ingredients and flavors that didn’t work at all. The chicken itself was OK but the chicken portion of the dish was tiny. Bizarre, not sure what the kitchen was thinking . Desert was good but overall a relatively expensive wasted evening.

The food was delicious and the ambiance was lovely! The food was just a little slow, but we were enjoying a leisurely brunch, so that wasn't too bad. Also, I have celiac disease and they took every precaution and I was just fine. Will definitely be going back!

YUM! the menu changes often, based on seasonal availability. The food is creative, like eggplant terrine and crispy mushroom stuffed sage leaves. They always have plenty of vegetarian and healthy options. The service is always good with attention to detail. they have blankets in the winter and delicious glog!

Server Edwin so on top of things w incredibly dry wit — Loved him! Atmosphere boisterous but conversation very possible and we were by the kitchen. Cocktails inventive, good wine list, don’t miss the poppy seed gougares (sp?) which are little pockets of heaven. Smoked trout you could miss... tasteless and served on rye bread so dense or old couldn’t cut it w a knife. Scallops, salads, everything else scrumptious. Awesome desserts as well.

Food tasted incredibly fresh and delicious. We were there for brunch. I shared the quiche and the duck egg crepe with another person and they were both incredible. Another person at my table had the pumpkin pancakes which were super creative and equally tasty as everything else. Service was really thoughtful as well. Only thing I would change was that the bloody marys weren't great. What we couldn't figure out was why the restaurant was so empty! There were two other tables when we arrived at 11:20 am and no one else came in by the time we left a little before 1 p.m.

Appetizers outstanding, eggplant a must try, hanger steak disappointed as the hunk ( literally) of blue cheese was a miss match, tomatoes good however, cold. The Hake was good meager portion did not wow, flavor profile was ok! Spoon cake a disappointed as not a hint of peach. Service was outstanding. Burrata outstanding.

Memorable meal. Food is top drawer. Everything is so fresh you would think it was picked from the garden that very day. And who knew veg, especially eggplant could taste so good? The bison was outstanding. I thought the hake was pricy for the portion size but then the potatoes underneath the hake were other-worldly. And whatever you do, save room for the spoon cake. Spectacular Meal.

We LOVE Garrison's. The menu includes an excellent selection of locally sourced food, creatively prepared and professionally served. Don't miss the poppyseed gougeres! Especially loved the burrata and grilled peaches dish this time of year, and excellent soft shell crab.

While always happy to snag a table, I am saddened by how often the Garrison is mostly empty. It is a marvelous special occasion restaurant but also good for less fancy meals. There's always something new on the menu in addition to familiar items like the poppyseed gougeres, which never disappoint. Their cocktails are brilliant. The setting is lovely. The service impeccable. Give Garrison more love, DC! It deserves it.
