Service was fast and way above the call of duty. Both the Chef and the Owner stopped by our table and actually asked questions and chatted. I had the duck and my wife had the salmon, both were amazing. I am a fan of duck and this was among the best I've ever had! Following the amazing meal, my wife and I sat outside on their adirondak chairs and watched the sunset... it was an amazing end to an amazing meal. I could not possibly recommend them higher.
What a wonderful meal in such a beautiful location. Dinner was excellent. My wife had the filet which was done perfectly. I had the pork chop and I wanted to just gnaw on the bones when I was done. The sides that came with the meals were also exceptional and not an afterthought. The view from the Goldmoor Inn, overlooking the sunset on the Mississippi River, is always great. And the service at the Goldmoor Inn is always so friendly. We love coming here.
I thought the service was😒
Ordered Foie gras appetizer which was fine. Then ordered soup of the day for both of us and beef Wellington and said we were going to share. Waitress said there was an $8 shared plate charge which I didn’t feel was necessary with an appetizer and soups. Did give her a strange look but she still added $8 even after also ordering a dessert. Food was fine but there is a lot better in Downtown Galena. And to top it off my dessert was some sort of key lime pie thing that was basically two solid, hard as a rock graham crackers with key lime filling in the middle. Couldn’t finish it as it was kind of gross.
Beautiful Inn and restaurant
Warm and friendly staff
Can’t wait to go back
Fantastic food and ambiance in intimate setting in historic Inn
Outstanding ambiance, service and food. Helped make our 50th anniversary very special
An amazing place for our 25th anniversary. The ambience and food were excellent and we were greeted by the owner and the chef which made us feel very special.
The initial contact with the hostess/front desk was standoffish and left my, now fiancé, and I feeling unwelcome. We had a reservation and were about 10 minutes early. She wasn’t at the desk when we arrived which happens and is no big deal. However she gave us a strern and questioning “Can I help you?” As if we were at the wrong place. I advised her of the reservation and she visibly annoyed said to hold on as she walked over to check her computer. She sat us without anything else said after that. The waitress was phenomenal when we mentioned we’ve never ate anywhere this fancy and likely didn’t know which fork to use first she smiled and assured us not to worry about it and that it’s outside in, or whichever fork we like that she wasn’t going to judge. The rest of the evening with our waitress was candid and appreciated by us. She made amazing menu recommendations and we tried soft shell crab and beef Wellington for the first time which were both amazing. I think it is worth mentioning I wore a dress shirt and dress pants and my fiancé was wearing a beautiful dress, so it wasn’t how we were dressed that justified the hostess attitude towards us.
A scenic drive from historic Galena to the picturesque setting of the Goldmoor. Fabulous meal. All four of us enjoyed the Beef Wellington. We had eaten here several years ago and enjoyed it but it is even better now. The setting is elegant with wonderful outdoor views. Had a nice visit with the owner and it is clear they are passionate about making a wonderful experience for each of their guests. Highly recommend!
We had a delicious dinner. The filet was very tender and flavorful. The salmon was excellent also. The pear crisp for dessert was fantastic. Definitely would go there again if we are in the area. The host was very friendly also. Scenic view and enjoyed watching all of the birds at their bird feeders.
The Chef at the Goldmoor is a gem! The food was absolutely wonderful and beautifully presented. My husband ordered the Beef Wellington and savored every morsel. I had the herb crusted salmon which was also very good. We couldn't resist the raspberry ruharb pie, which came in a large rectangle slice. The manager even brought my husband an extra scoop of ice cream. It was large enough to share and sooo good.
We also had the pleasure of dining here for breakfast. This is my husband's favorite meal to dine out and he wasn't disappointed! French toast was perfect and the Belgium waffles had wild blueberries on them! LOVE LOVE LOVE. Highly recommend!
While there was a beautiful view, everything else from ambiance to food was just fine. Not worth the money.
Good food great bar friendly staff recommend late sitting in July 8PM is good for enjoying the sunset Planning a return next year
Very nice room, excellent food, nice service. Entrées were somewhat overpriced, but the rest of the menu was in line with the quality. Overall a very good experience. We will go again.
Excellent food and service
Limited menu but all delicious options. The beet salad was a good size and presented beautifully. The salmon was perfectly cooked. Service was superb, friendly and prompt. Atmosphere quiet and conducive to conversation.
We ate at the Goldmoor Inn 2 of the 3 nights we stayed there. The first night we started off with Pan Seared Diver Scallops served with heirloom tomato jam over beet and key-lime pearl pasta. The scallops were perfectly prepared and the flavor was balanced with a smoky salt and and tang with a hint of bitter from the greens. My husband had the Filet Mignon (again perfectly prepared) and I had Chicken Piccata. Their take on CP was amazing with a crisped skin on the chicken with a flavorful creamy/tart caper sauce that was light ad refreshing. The second night we enjoyed an Heirloom Beet Salad and my husband had Bone in Pork Chop and I had the Salmon en Croute. Again, both prepared to our liking and balanced well with the sides presented. Overall their menu changes (not sure how often) but there seems to be a good variety to entice timid diners or the more adventurous foodies. It is a quiet, tucked away spot to enjoy good company, great scenery and wonderful memories. I kept thinking what a great place for a wedding or special anniversary gathering. Beautiful scenery!
Quiet relaxing atmosphere!! Food was delicious! We can’t wait to go back!
Service was excellent and the Beef Wellington was superb!! Also had an excellent assortment of wines for our occasion!! Owner stopped at our table to welcome us and update us on happenings at the Goldmoor.
excellant food and presentation was deserving of 5 stars. Owner came by to say hello
and was interested in what we thought about the whole experience. Well worth the drive,
and I will be definitely back when in town.
This is a lovely restaurant located in a beautiful setting. The food was very good, but the whole experience was excellent - very romantic. The drive there from Galena was also lovely!
Absolutely wonderful food. Had a view of a grassy area and birds. Had thought there would be a view of the river , as it was advertised as such. But wonderful food, very quiet and relaxing atmosphere. The owner visited each table and chatted. A unique location, out of town, lovely countryside.
Food was tasty. One server for the bar and restaurant meant little service. Atmosphere was nice though much too expensive for what we got. One cocktail was $14.00. Seemed a bit much for being in a rural restaurant.
Wonderful food! Great place to stay. Outstanding service.
Small dining room. Excellent food. Friendly owners and staff. This is a destination for special occasions. Prices are higher than comparable restaurants in the area.
The Goldmoor was wonderful in many ways. It was very charming as well as the owners. If anyone is looking for a unique setting and delicious food prepared with an artistic flair, they should definitely try the Goldmoor. We look forward to going back and may not wait for a special occasion.
Our service at Goldmoor Inn was excellent. The food was fabulous and my wife and I had a very romantic dinner. We would recommend this restaurant and plan on visiting it again whenever we are in the Galena area.
Admire the care that the Inkeepers put into their establishment
My wife and I enjoyed our trip to Goldmoor, the food, the service and the view was the best we found in Galena. The dinning room is a quiet setting with a great view for sunsets and nature. I would recommend the pork chop and the stuffed salmon.
The waitress was amazing! The food was absolutely melt in your mouth amazing !!! Loved it! We will return!
It was a very pleasant experience. Great food, professional staff, the owner is attentive and friendly. I highly recommend the Goldmoor Inn.
Stayed at the Inn so we ate there two nights in a row. Food was great. The duck l’orange was our favorite followed by the pork chop.
One only celebrates a 50th Anniversary once and we were so pleased that we chose the Goldmoor Restaurant for our special occasion. We are two couples who live just across the Mississippi River in Peosta and Asbury, Iowa who both happened to get married April 20, 1968. We go out together every year to toast our anniversaries and picked this gem this year.
The food was perfect, the service great, and the ambiance outstanding. We sat near the window watching the train by the river, the horses in the pasture next door, and the sun setting to the west. The drive is a little daunting but even us old fogies made it back to Galena just fine. Thank you to our charming hosts. The evening was perfect.
Vacation with fiance!
Best Beef Wellington on the planet! Ambiance was awesome as was the service and server. Quiet and cozy booth overlooking both the river view and various active bird feeders! Fine meal and an outstanding Inn to stay at!!!
We found this gem on Tripadvisor and then checked it out on Open Table. Both have it right this is great place to dine. The owners were very interactive. Great bird watching. The beef wellington and pork chop were excellent choices for us.
Supurb atmosphere. Fine dining in a beautiful country setting. Great food and service. Perfect for intimate outings. Was a great find!
We had an extremely pleasant experience. The location by the water is unbeatable. The owner swung by and asked how we liked the food. The chef also came while we were about to eat our dessert. Overall top-notch customer service with delicious food. You can’t go wrong in whatever you order, it seems.
Wonderful dining experience. Weekend getaway with my daughter and found this Inn/Restaurant recommended on Trip Advisor. Did NOT disappoint! The property is beautiful! Looks like a castle!! The food was outstanding. Best crab cake I've ever had! The beef wellington was delicious! Desert (bread pudding) was moist and so flavorful! Very expensive but worth it for a special occasion.
Intimate with a beautiful view, incredible food and superb service!
