Excellent service!!! I had my birthday dinner there and I’m so glad I did! I will be back!
Although it was loud, it was a great meal. It was difficult to have conversations due to noise level.
The restaurant was conveniently located to the Marriott and the beer and food was good but the music was to loud . We were ahead of the crowd thank goodness so the service was reasonable but the restaurant filled up quickly (7:30) and service also slowed.
I’ve visited Granite City in Troy so I was very disappointed in my visit. I had reservations and had to wait 10 minutes just to tell the hostess. Once seated, it was another 20 minutes before we were acknowledged. Once we placed our order, it was 45 minutes before we received our cold lunch minus my fries. Our waitress said they would be right out and 15 minutes later, I received hot, fresh fries but I was already done because I needed to be on a call by 1:30. Our waitress, Tony apologized and said she would take care of the bill.
I am positive I will not visit this location again but I would suggest you hire an event person to coordinate with someone regarding activities happening downtown so that you are able to staff accordingly.
Very slow service!!! Even if the kitchen is backed up, your waiter not being attentive also adds to the overall annoying experience. Visit the other locations just not the Downtown Detroit one!
Great late night dinner
This was a terrible dining experience for me and my guests. From the time we were seated, to the time we got our drinks, half an hour had passed. I had to go the the kitchen and find our waitress more than once to get our drinks refilled. The food was slow, but exceptional. For the money, I feel like there are many other places that would love to have our business, and if I had it to do all over again, I would not have chosen to eat here.
I am a fan of Granite City, and this is the first time I've dined at the Detroit location. We had put in reservations for this evening, as it was the night of the Detroit Fireworks. Nonetheless, we probably waited 25 minutes after checking in -- and had to flag down a waitress after waiting an additional 20 minutes after we were finally seated. (Although the waitress that came to help us was very friendly and courteous; we enjoyed her.)
That may sound critical, but we hold no grudge because it was the night of the Fireworks AND a national high school volleyball tournament was in town -- given those, it can be expected that those kinds of things can happen. (Well, having to find a server after waiting 20 minutes really shouldn't have happened.)
Our biggest issue by far was that the portions were quite underwhelming, given the entree prices. I ordered the Maple Pepper Bacon Burger -- and I received less French fries than what would be in a Wendy's Junior Fries. (I should have taken a picture.) The size of the plate was modest -- and it made the undersized portions of food that much more obvious.
I will probably return there in the future, with a hopefully better outcome.
We have been going to Granite City for brunch at least twice a month for the past 2 years. Although they continually changed the layout, the service and food were consistent. WHAT HAPPENED!? Unfriendly greeters, terrible, inattentive wait service. My favorite WAS the parmesan regianno hash browns, waited 35 minutes to have empty pan replaced...come on. This GC has gone from one of Detroit's signature brunch spots in downtown to a sub-par hotel restaurant buffet. You will see from my previous GC reviews we WERE big fans. SMH
I made a reservation and in the comment section asked for a great view. We were seated basically in a boxed area with no view. IThe waitress had no personality, never used manners. Food took almost half an hour to arrive, and it was cood. We send it back to be warmed and it returned burnt. The waitress never checked on ud or filled our drinks. Horrible experience!
Candice was amazing service was exceptional. We enjoyed the Menu selections and the chef choices.
Me & my Father went for Father’s Day! The service was excellent, and our waitress was great. We did the brunch menu.. we had a reservation and we were sat as soon as we arrived. And the food was great! I will return again.
We went to Granite City in the Ren Cen for Father's Day brunch. We were a party of 4 and we only saw our server 3 maybe 4 times in an hour and a 1/2 that we were there. Although she was pleasant, she seemed to be a bit overwhelmed with the table she had to wait. All in all we enjoy ourselves, But the service at the Novi location was much better.
Our waiter was awesome and so was other staff that passed by. It was Father's Day and everyone was very nice to all the Dads. The food was delicious and my husband was a happy camper!
Waffles were hard as a rock and food was cold. The Troy Mi location is better
Under staffed.Service poor. Floor sticky. Too loud. Could not sit outside because there wasn’t enough staff to cover the patio.
Noise level was a little elevated, however we could still talk within our group. Our waitress was very energetic and helpful with suggestions.
Kevin was AMAZING! We were a large party who arrived in waves. He was patient, attentive, and very knowledgeable. We really appreciate all that he did to make our dinner special.
Service was terrible. I only saw the waitress 3 times for a party of 10. Took over an hour to get our dinner. My steak was burnt on one side after waiting over an hour had to replace my dinner which took another 37 min to get. Just a horrible birthday dinner experience for me. And to top it off I had to wait another 20 min for them to bring out my own personal cake, which by then everyone was beyond ready to go. 7:45-10:30 was definitely too long.
My 1stctime ever was last year December, it was truly awesome! This time around my food was not as good or hot as I preferred. I was a bit disappointed.
Loved the atmosphere definitely will be coming back
Made reservations in advance, but told there was no availability when we arrived for our reserved time. Ended up leaving and eating at the neighboring restaurant.
We celebrated my daughter's graduation with a late lunch/early dinner great food great dinner service for a group of 12. Server kept our tables cleaned offered recommendation on the menu and filled our glasses.
The only issue was the women's bathroom was not cleaned only one stall had toilet paper and most of the toilets were not flushed the flushing issue I assume is due to the automated flushing system they have.
The service has gone down tremendously since they've opened. Our food took almost an hour to come out and I ordered my dessert to go at the same time I ordered my meal so that I wouldn't have to wait, being that I was on a business lunch. The server forgot my dessert order and I still ended up waiting for them to cook and bring out my dessert at the end of lunch. They also didn't put the caramel on my dessert as described on the menu. It's also unfortunate that they stopped doing the surveys where you could get $5 off your next meal. They must know that the service has gone down.
While the food and drink were good, the service was mediocre. We were a group of 18 and that can be overwhelming, but the restaurant was virtually empty and it took over 20 minutes to even get water. I would have expected more than one server or for the restaurant to be better prepared as the reservation was made in advance. While our server worked very hard it was frustrating to constantly be on the look out for her or have to order two drinks ahead of time so one could come within a shorter span of finishing your first. Additionally, we were told that we had overwhelmed the kitchen with our orders. The convenience of the restaurant is ideal and the food was good we were underwhelmed overall.
I really enjoyed my birthday there! Chris & Bill were absolutely amazing, detailed & professional!
I had booked a table for 7pm. Our table wasn't ready and we waited for a half hour to be seated, after I insisted for the third time that we get our table. It took us another half hour to get our drinks and we never got the water we had asked for, despite the waitress ensuring she would bring it shortly. She then brought us our food but we didn't have silverware or napkins. We had to ask 2 different waitresses and got them a good 5-10 min after our food was served. Finally, our waitress asked if we wanted to get separate checks, and did not offer to bring us the dessert menu. Our feeling was the staff was overwhelmed and everyone was running around like a headless chicken. On the upside though: food and beers were good.
Waitress was preoccupied. I will probably give this location another chance
My mom and I had a great time even though it was a little slow and crowded. Our waitress was outstanding.
Prior to making a reservation to come here to celebrate Mother’s day, I did not realize this place had guests serve themselves buffet style (every Sunday). This was such an inappropriate concept to have on such a busy holiday, because there were so many people and one could easily be standing in line for 25-30 minutes before even getting a plate. The food itself was bland and not worth the money, and our service was absolutely terrible (our waiter was so rude). We will not be returning here in the future.
Brunch service was a disaster. They only had one line for the food and blocked the workers in so that they could swap out food easily, not caring about how long and slow the line would become! They should have saw the problem and moved the tables outward to allow people on each side of the food line! Having the prime rib and omelette station at the end of the line only made the backups worse! I booked this place for the buffet and the concept of self service so that I wouldn't be stuck with 2 children at a table long term. We were there over 90 minutes for a buffet meal!
Visited for Mother's Day. Not aware of the exclusive Mother's Day Brunch mention when booked via Open Table. The buffet lines were more than 30 minutes long and the speed to replace food (salmon and chicken) was unacceptably slow. After waiting in line for a $30 buffet, no one wants to get to the front to see empty food platters. Overall, I would never visit this restaurant again for a special occasion. They should have a dual-line format to accommodate the large influx of guests. Overall, it was not a good experience for the price. I really like Granite City on non-holidays, which is why I picked it for Mother's Day.
I would not recommend this establishment for Mothers Day Brunch. It was too hectic and appeared to be un-organized with walk-ins versus reservations. When we first got there I was told twice that tables were being cleaned off for us to be seated. If I had not stayed at the hostess station I have a feeling I would not have been seated right away. We ended up requesting another table to accommodate our large group and all of our plates and beverages. The food was not hot as it seems the fire underneath had gone out and teammates were in the process of changing them out. The bowls for the soup ran out so I never got that. The set up overall for the buffet should be re-visited. The line was too congested. Our waitress was very accommodating and nice during our visit. However her comment in the end is what changed the amount of tip she ultimately received from the group.
NOTE: I suggest you move the omelet station to avoid a back up in front of the waffle station for those patrons who are not getting omelets. I never got to the carving station because of the back up. Overall I had a great time and our waitress was pleasant.
Dinner was for the wife for Mother’s Day and a concert after dinner. The food was very good and the waitress was very nice.
Much too long for lunch. Ordinary food, very long wait for courses. Lunch should not take an hour and forty five minutes.
Horrible service. Reservation was not ready (even though it was made a month in advance!) and we had to wait for 30 minutes!!! No silver ware! Almost an hour wait for food and EVERYTHING WAS COLD!!! Manager dismissed us and didn’t want to correct anything! Simply told us to have a “good night”.
Granite City can be hard to find for those unfamiliar with the Ren Center group of building in Detroit. I felt comfortable eating solo here. My server started out great, friendly and attentive, but she got busy with a rush and I had some extra waiting. I had the mahi tacos, which were quite good and a beer flight, which I recommend. Their Broad Ave oatmeal stout was especially good.
