Gratzi - Ann Arbor
Ask about our Birthday Meal Deal!
Gratzi’s has been very hit and miss lately. My favorite dish is the Tuna with Rissotto cake. This time, the tuna was cold and Rissotto cake was too well done.
I ate at Gratzi Ann Arbor Restaurant on October 14th . The food was absolutely terrible, cold, and flavor was absent. The service was good. The manager offered to take it off the bill- but as he did take my wife's meal off the bill he said "My Treat" ( Absolutely it was not a treat )
Good service with terrible food is not something you want from a restaurant. I would recommend that folks consider eating somewhere else in Ann Arbor as there are many other restaurants with great food and great service.
My wife and I have a tradition of going to Gratzi for our anniversary every year. After this last visit will we not be returning again.
We'd made our reservation weeks earlier. When we we arrived the restaurant was not busy, however we were given a cramped booth. It ended up being okay, since it was private but, we kept wondering WHY we were shoved into a tiny booth when almost every table was empty.
The food, was terrible and was $181 with tip.
We ordered calamari as an appetizer. It came out ice cold on one side of the plate and burning hot on the other (obviously put under a heat lamp). The waitress never came to ask if it was okay, so I ate the cold side....my wife loves calamari and the hot side was excellent.
Then our main dishes came. I had ordered salmon (a $26 entree), which came completely RAW, they'd just put a piece of raw salmon on top of the pasta! My wife ordered the filet ($35) and had ordered it medium, it was also barely cooked. The waitress had just thrown the plates down and disappeared, we flagged her down and showed her the raw meat. She apologized and took both plates back.
A short time later our plates came back, again the waitress threw the plates down and disappeared without checking if things were okay. Then, a manager stopped by and asked if our meat was cooked now, didn't wait for a response, said something about getting it right the second time, and left. My salmon was cooked perfectly, my wife's filet was now well done and hard.
As we ate it became obvious that the "re-fire" had just been to put the entire plate in an oven. The meat was cooked, everything else on both our plates was hard and dried out. My wife's potatoes were inedible and the sauce on both our dishes was gone.
At this point we were just too upset to care about the food... We ate what we could and just dealt with it.
We ordered dessert, tiramisu and coffee. Both were excellent. A pleasant surprise from the rest of the meal.
excellent dinner right before the UM game....good service, good wine choices....moved right along and had plenty of time to walk to Michigan Stadium...have been coming for many years and it always meets expectations
Excellent service!!! Good food and atmosphere. It made our special occasion that much more special
The wait staff was attentive. The server went out of his way to show us a good time. Food was excellent.
The experience that we had was great,we have not been there in 29 years
Every dish was overcooked
Brussel sprouts were hard and tasteless
Shrimp were overdone
Veal was overcooked and bland
Hazelnut cake was stale and hard
Coffee came 15 min after i finished desert because” all our cups were dirty”
Waitress did her best
Many meals her over past 20 years and this deviation was unacceptable and not appreciated
I have only been to Gratzi a few times and many years in between times. I would say that the menu is enticing and the soup of
the day was very good but my seafood risotto, which was highly recommended by the waitress as one of the favorites, was bland and had only a few small shrimp. I am Italian and have never had risotto like that. My husband like his chicken choice ok.
The waitress was nice and gave us complimentary limoncellos for no reason at all. Maybe she saw that I didn’t eat my dinner, but I never complained. It may be a while before I go back to try Gratzi again as Ann Arbor as many restaurants. A plus is that on football game weekends not many take reservations as Gratzi does.
20 year anniversary
Manhattans looked like Shirley Temples and were 1/2 the size of other fine restaurants. Veal was tough and cold. The rabbit potions were minute. Salad was excellent as was the Risotto.
Been to Gratzi many times over the years and I wouldn’t go back after this experience.
Superb Italian food at a reasonable price, great service and very relaxing.
Loved the food. Lobster pasta not enough lobster for price. Martini was only half the glass. Risotto to die for.
Disappointing. There were 3 of us having dinner at what we thought would be a good option; but unfortunately, not one of us pleased. The food was moderately passable. I would not recommend it, considering so many other options in Ann arbor.
The waitress was new, her third day so she was slow. We asked for Pellegrino...It took 10 min. plus.
Two of us became ill the next day;
their seafood? Pasta.
I was really disappointed.
Not going there anytime soon.
I think that when the restaurant is slow, the host stand is not a good place for staff to gather and talk, especially when they are not paying attention to their tables. I also think the appearance of several servers was unkept, ie uniforms dirty, improper fit, just did not match the fine dining experience. The food and cocktails were wonderful as usual.
The most outstanding service!! Went to celebrate my birthday and my parents 35th wedding anniversary and the staff made our night so special!!
Fantastic food and great service. Half-off bottles of wine deal was misleading and we ended up ordering more wine than we wanted but other than that, no issues!
Gratzi is a favorite restaurant with wonderful food, hands down. That said, whether we arrive 10 minutes early or 5 minutes late, we will almost always wait 15-20 minutes for a table ... and tonight, while waiting for our table, close to 15 minutes for the bartender to fill our drink orders and remember we were there, standing while he waited on others. I love this restaurant but the evening often starts out with aggravation at the bar or with the long wait. Perhaps add bar staff to accommodate the overflow???
We've dined at Gratzi multiple times over the past decade and invariably had a great experience until recently. On our two most recent visits, several of our dinners were brought to the table cool or lukewarm when they should have been hot, and one or more of the ingredients were overcooked -- for example, the grilled shrimp in the farfalle was overdone to the point of being without flavor. Even the service attentiveness seems to have deteriorated a bit, possibly because of it being a very busy evening. We understand that no restaurant can offer a perfect experience 100 percent of the time, but at Gratzi's prices we expect more than a C+ or B- effort. Gratzi's less elegant sister establishment across the street, Palio, offers significantly more value in a less formal venue.
Gratzis is consistently delicious! We had four different dishes-seafood risotto, short rib ragout pasta, chicken Marsala, and the rabbit paparadelle. They were all great!! We ordered the Chateau St. Jean wine which was great with all of the courses. We were seated upstairs, by the window, which is a great view and especially interesting watching the post game pedestrians and traffic. What a happy and pleasant experience!!! We will be back!!!!
We showed up a bit early for an 8:00 appt. and stood around as we watched a few open tables that could have been occupied. At about 5 after the hour they sat us at one of the tables that had been open the whole time. The manager was good, friendly and tried to buy our waitress some time. She was not good. She missed several opportunities for us to purchase more wine - possibly serve some more bread! Very disappointing experience that. Kukay have been much better. The food was pretty good.
Service was slow, food was cold. Shrimp was over cooked. The restaurant has gone downhill since my last visit. Sadly, I won’t be back.
Service was terrible, took us more than 30 minutes to order desert after we finished our entrees and our plates were cleared and then more than 30 minutes to receive deserts. Server had zero engagement and appeared miserable. Lots of places with better atmosphere.
Our entrees were very bland . . . all of us tried each other’s and had the same reaction. The chicken Marsala, chicken milenase and farfalle shrimp lacked flavor. Everything else was great . . . but we were disappointed in our birthday dinner
Fabulous birthday celebration! Great service, food, and ambiance!
Poor food, very good service
Great food, great service! We will return In the future!
Place is pretty good. Will go back.
Food was underwhelming for the price. Waitress was not very attentive - had to get her attention multiple times to ask for service. In Open Table I had entered that it was our anniversary, but this was not acknowledged by Gratzi or the waitress. Waitress did not know the wine menu very well. On the positive side. Wine was good. Gratzi was accommodating to my dietary needs (lactose intolerance). Provided complimentary Limoncello for after dinner.
The food was outstanding, very tasty and fresh. Our waitress was one hot mess. It took 35 minutes to get our first drink. Even after we ordered and had our appetizers in front of us, she asked if we would like to order appetizers. Same thing with the entrees. Very weird.
After notifying the manager, he attempted to help, but this woman needed direct one on one supervision. After she brought us our entrees she stood there talking for a few minutes while the people at the next table were trying to order. Other (savvier!) patrons walked out.
Dinner should be relaxing, not filled with staff drama.
I haven't been to Gratzi in many years and was so disappointed. The pasta in the Lobster Pasta and the Spaghetti with Meatballs was inedible. The shrimp in the farfelle was burned to the point that the outside was black. The salmon was very good.
Excellent service, food , authenticity. College friendly. Good location,
The restaurant was very warm. The ventilation at the tables near the window was poor. They found us a new table that was more comfortable. I ordered the pasta with lobster and it had such a strong tarragon flavor that I couldn’t eat it. The wait staff was excellent
Another great meat at Gratzi - great service, excellent food and a relaxing atmosphere. We love this restaurant
Great restaurant. Not the servers fault at all but the kitchen was completely overwhelmed on move in week at university of Michigan
Great food. Excellent service. It's our tradition for drop-off dinner for our daughter to UMich.
Reservation was at 7:30, didn’t eat until 9:30. Service was pretty bad.
Please bring back the fettuccine meal done by table side
Eggplant parm was delicious and a generous portion.
