Gratzi - Ann Arbor

Haven’t been in years & now we remember why. Don’t plan to be back.
We had a wine and food flight pairing which was very good, but the main course was just alright. We went during restaurant week with their present menu, so that might have played a part. We will try to go again to order off the main menu and see if the food caliber is a little better.
My friend and I were very excited to go to Gratzi because of its reviews and the restaurant week menu. The fried goat cheese ravioli was a great appetizer, but everything was pretty plain from there. We ordered the lobster gnocchi with sweet corn, mushrooms, and black truffle, and the pollo milanese. The gnocchi had very little flavor, the sauce didn’t really incorporate well with the gnocchi, and the lobster was very chewy. The pollo milanese was okay, but just okay. We had the tiramisu and zuppa inglese. The zuppa inglese was tasty, but the tiramisu was mostly whipped cream - there was very little of the cake / ladyfinger layers we would have expected. We literally dug around the cream to find the cake and only found crumbs. We might have just gotten a weird slice.
Our server was nice and the vibe of the restaurant was nice, but neither of us would go there again. The food wasn’t bad, but it didn’t live up to our expectations.
Food was excellent as was our server. We did have an issue ordering wine. Our server informed us that bottles were half price as we were there on a Monday for restaurant week. We requested a Beringer Cabernet. Our server left and came back to tell us that this wine was not available as it was on the “by the glass” list. We chose another bottle and when the server returned she informed us that this particular wine was also not available-not in the current stock. She suggested another cab but we had already informed her that we were not interested in that particular wine as we were club members at that winery and had their wines in our own cellar. No accommodation was made (such as allowing us to purchase the Beringer) and it seems management could have handled the situation better. We ended by getting a glass of wine each.
We went for restaurant week. It was fabulous! Always love every visit to Gratzi!
Service could have been better-- especially since I was not there for restaurant week special
I hadn't been to Gratzi in several years. The interior seemed much, if not entirely the same, which was actually a comfort. While the meal we had was tasty, and our server was pleasant and earnest, there were several things notable that could've been better.
Our table for 2 upstairs was very cramped (and my guest and I are not large people). They were out of the "market fish" I ordered, but didn't tell me that for 10-15 meetings (because "the kitchen was backed up") and then when they offered to make an alternate fish with the same preparation (with which I was ok) they then took another 10-15 minutes to tell me that, too, wasn't possible. They then offered a third fish (which worked fine with the preparation). There also was a 10-15 minute wait after we each ordered a glass of wine for it to appear. (Note, the place was relatively full but hardly packed.) All of these delays actually made us late for our next appointment (and we let the restaurant know our time constraints - we allowed over 90 minutes for dinner and did not delay in ordering initially).
Ultimately the meal was as good as expected. I would've expected some further acknowledgment (whether just a further apology, offering a free dessert or "comping" some portion of the meal we did order) from staff, but nothing was forthcoming.
No mention was made of special occasion
great dinner and great service ! there were 5 of us. each had a great dinner. calamari appetizer was fabulous.
I've been a long time customer of Gratzi, but they've been going through some management change pains for a few years. This time around, I was excited for their new executive chef and its new menu. Unfortunately, either the chef wasn't working the day I went and their sous chefs are all new...or the quality has gone down again. The lamb chops we ordered was supposed to me medium rare, unfortunately, they came onto the table as rare. They apologized and fixed it by reheating it, and it came back to us medium well. In addition to that, the chops were very small, mostly bones than meat, and it didn't even taste like lamb. It was so bland and disappointing. Our waitress was very nice and apologetic and removed it from our bill, but what a disappointing night out for two new parents. Our nights out are rare, and when we go out again in the future, I won't be choosing Gratzi anymore.
Food was decent. Could’ve been better for price
Food was amazing! And our waiter was super nice! Couldn't of asked for a better first experience. Will definitely be back!
Excellent food and service. Half off wine bottles on Mondays. Had a great birthday celebration
It was our 2nd experience at this restaurant and it was excellent again. We tried 4 items and all were outstanding...shrimp scampi, risotto, scallops and the meatball appetizer. It is really hard to understand why they. Are rated so low on other websites.
We've been to Gratzi many times since they opened in the 80's. Never a bad time. Food is excellent, great wine list, and great service. Can't say a bad thing about them!
We went for “National Spaghetti Day.” The meal was over-priced at $20 for spaghetti and four tasteless meatballs. The server was slow and we had to ask twice for several things. Gratzi is a bit “pasta” its prime.
National Spaghetti Day was wonderful!
We were delighted at every turn. The ambiance is classy, elegant, Italian, but not stuffy. Our server, Cliff, passed the Level 1 Sommelier exam and demonstrated his professionalism throughout the evening. He was superbly attentive, knowledgeable, helpful, this was beyond a doubt THE most delicious preparation of this classic we’d ever experienced, including homemade! Complemented by a fresh house salad & delightfully crisp yet fruity Prunotto Barbera di Asti, & finished with a subtly Chambord-infused Creme Brûlée & rich espresso, our $100 meal was worth every penny. Kudos to the chef, staff, & Cliff for a memorable dining experience. We look forward to returning soon and often.
Very attentive staff. Excellent dinner suggestions enormous interest in making sure we were satisfied great menu
Went on a relatively quiet Wednesday night with a date. I ordered the Farfalle and it was great. Shrimp was nicely cooked as well. Server was amicable, owner also came round to check on our food/exchange pleasantries as well. Overall a good dining experience and I will go again.
Food never as good as it should be. Ann Arbor has low standard. People! Raise the bar!
The food and atmosphere was great but the service was lacking. The server was not very engaging and we had to ask about specials, request bread and ask for more water. It was NYE but I expected much more from a higher end restaurant.
My only concern was our table was so dark they had to give us an ipad to see the menu. Our waiter also appeared disinterested in us Overall food was very good.
Great fun to try new chef ....he’s made the transition well. Kept old favorite calamari with the best aioli, added new features. Extended Family of 7 enjoying more than 18 years of lucious food and wine
Birthday dinner in front window. Perfect setting for my friends celebration!
We love Gratzi and have been going there for years. The staff is great. Our server seemed a bit less than enthusiastic to be working that day, but everyone else had wonderful energy. The bruschetta with ahi tuna was AMAZING! Don't bother with the pizettes - I have no issue with them being small but they just aren't good. They seemed to have been sitting around for a while - blech. Skip the tiramisu; it was really dense, not light as if it had been made in house. Overall, it's a great place. It's quiet and intimate with some hits and misses on the menu.
Perfect spot to celebrate spouse's birthday. Server had timing to a T. Drinks generous, food fabulous (as always), and a good value. Happy to return any time!
My 17 year-old daughter chose Gratzi for dinner. She loves pasta! The focaccia bread with olive oil was particularly good while we were waiting for our entrees to be brought out. I love the salmone dinner selection.
Christmas Eve dinner! Everything was wonderful! Service was amazing - everyone was in a great mood - having a fun time. Appreciated that they were there! Food was great! Decorations & lights were perfect. Wonderful evening!
Our waiter was Amazing. The food was ok....my husband and father in law both got the rabbit. The noodles were so undone they were almost crunchy. The chicken Marsala was just ok. The Wine was excellant
Exceptional service, fresh and tasty food.
Don’t accept a booth in the back.
All four in our group were very pleased with their meal. Our server was Emily and she did an outstanding job waiting on our table. We had a great table at the front with a great view of Main Street
Food and service were both great! Enjoyed our table upstairs by the window.
It was relaxing and so delicious.
Birthday celebration, nice to sit upstairs.
The restaurant is a visually beautiful venue. The staff is very friendly. Jason was our waiter and he was very attentive to our needs. I had the Eggplant Parm. The portions was large and I took some home for dinner on Sunday, excellent. I have recommended this restaurant to friends.
Don’t sit over the heat vent. It can get a little toasty. Overall great experience and great meal.
Thank you for a very special evening. All of us in our group had a wonderful time and could not have asked for a better seat, service and food of course! Plan on returning!!! Main Street ......this place is a gem!
