It was my first visit and I loved the food and service at Gyukaku. The restaurant looked nice and was clean as well.
The food came in a timely manner. Their cheesy wontons and chicken karaage appetizers were amazing and I will get them again next time. Grilling our own meat was fun and the food tasted good; my favourite was the toro beef for both taste and value.
They also have a cool rewards app that gives you points for eating here and can be redeemed for dishes.
Overall, I had a great experience here and will be coming back. I made reservations and was glad I did, as people who came after me were told wait times were 40 - 50 minutes.
First time at this location, I usally go to the one on broadway, not sure if they have different pricing amd happy hour options or if all the loactions have changed it since I've visited last but the happy hour option wasn't as good as I had. My group of 5 was put in the back room area, I wish we had been seated elsewhere because it was really claustrophobic in the booth, in the back, no ventilation. Will stick to Broadway location next time.
We have always liked this place. It is fun to cook your own meat and share with others. Everything is fresh and tasty. The decor needs a little update. The menu can be confusing. Very busy place during the summer, calms down in the off season.
Delivious bbq :), good service, cheap drinks and good for a date or big group gathering.
Food has no flavour at all. It was quite disappointed!
Booked the table for 2 at 1815 but had to wait until almost 1840 to be seated.
Good service and good food. but it will be great if there has student discount.
We loved our visit to Gyu-Kaku!
Food was great, options for happy hour are endless! Drinks were awesome too.
Value is definitely there, and quality as amazing!
We are for sure coming back :)
I love going to Gyu-Kaku because it is a fun experience and the menu has many options. My only issue is that the food is brought out too quickly, and the table space does not make it very comfortable to have many dishes served at once. I would enjoy it more if there was a little bit of wait time between being served the meats and other items, so that things could be cooked and enjoyed without feeling rushed.
Overall we had a good time, our waiter was very nice and the space was quite. I did write on my reservation that we were celebrating a birthday but the hostess or waiter never asked me about it, so we didn't get to celebrate while dining.
Food was good as usual but service was poor. We had a trainee which was announced at the start but I found everything was slow and it wasn’t the waitress. Had to ask for veg and rice for the main while we looked at nothing but meat. I understand everything comes out as served but when it’s raw food coming out, I don’t understand why it can’t arrive with some sort of togetherness. Lackk of attentiveness for more drinks, anything needed with the meal.
Never miss an occasion to go there when im in Vancouver- the food is amazing
Didn’t get my points this time????
My food was great though
Been here 3 times now, and those 3 times were fantastic. The meats were perfectly marinated and tender and the staff was friendly .Will be back soon
I was just killing time in Vancouver and I guess that’s everyday life when you don’t have a job and you live downtown. So I found this place and it was good, the food, the service almost everything was great.
It was good enough. I love meet so it was awsome to me.
Guy-Kaku are consistently great. The service is wonderful, the food delicious and it’s great value. We repeatedly eat here and introduced our family to it recently and they already can’t wait to come back to the city and eat there again.
Food was good, however our waitress seemed to not know the ins and out of Gyu Kaku. She didn't go through the process of how to use the grill or for how long the meat was supposed to be cooked or which meat was which, leaving us to guess.
food was so good and reasonably priced. our server was named Sae I think? she was friendly and warm. the cocktails here are awesome.
Bad service on Aug 19 night. Food served late but stop to make an order for us. Your staff Karen & the male manager both provided very bad service! They insisted us to pay the bill even the food served late. They rejected to make an order for us anymore. This is our first time to meet your such bad service! Before your service is very good... too bad!
Great food and service. Regular customer. Good Japanese drinks selection.
Staff were very friendly and helpful despite being busy. Takes time to check up on you. Love the food!
Very good value, great place for a get together of three or more people.
Weekdays lunch and Monday all days happy hours are best deal
The staff are always amazing here, they bring the experience to the next level with their attentiveness and friendly behaviour. The meat is always so flavourful and tender. I've never had a bad experience here and would recommend it to anyone (besides vegetarians).
Once they figured out why I wasn’t get much heat from the bbq, everything was good. I came in to dine on a Monday night and they had all day happy hrs on for several menu items, so even better dining value. Service was great, would go back but next time with someone else to have a bit more variety. Needed to laundry my clothes afterwards as the bbqs didn’t have overhead exhausts at the Nelson St location.
Amazing food, awesome service, fun....must have the spicy pork. Can grill your own or order premade food...your choice. Everyone I bring here, loves it.. be sure to make a reservation if going after 5pm. Diners have the table for 2 hours, and that’s the perfect amount of time, before you need to go for a walk!
2 of us ordered the $60 "Meat Lovers'" combo at a 20% discount during the Happy Hour lunch a few days ago. All the great looking small plates of meats were brought in by friendly staff along with a delicious salad and freshly prepared edamame, and everything was so delicious, though a bit on a too sweet side. More problem for me is the MSG. I did call some time ago to find out if they use it and was told that they do use it in a rather curt manner as if to say 'is there a problem with it?." Because the food tastes so good and the meals there are very good deal, but I have to suffer from the MSG symptom afterword -- a dry throat, a stiff neck and a headache which last for a few hours. I have to drink a lot of water to wash it down fast too. I think the MSG-heavy flavoring is to please majority of clients but it would be so nice if the restaurant would offer the NO MSG option for those who have issues with it. I know many of my conscientious friends have problems with MSG. If the NO MSG option is available, I would come eat there quite often, as their Super Happy Hour is such a good deal.
Super happy hour is lit
The serving staff were great at helping us along the way to a stellar first experience dining here :)
Overall the server are very friendly and nice.
But unfortunately they kept too busy, and feels like our table got forgotten, they should have to check for us the bbq rack should be taken away before we can start to cook the meat that we did not know, so the meat was lay on top for 5 mins turning not fresh, we tried to ask for help but We couldnt find one person look back our table until we found someone, we were rush to finish the meal before get back to work, so end up we didnt ask for new meat replacement. But we will come back because of the happy hour and we love the meal !
Delicious food, always a fun place to eat with friends and great value for your money.
The first time here. Family visited town, so we took them out for dinner. Loved everything about it, except the loud music. Food was excellent, very good selection of meat and/or vegetarian options and also a la carte menu. The service was excellent as well. The whole concept of grilling your food at the table (if that is what you choose) is a lot of fun because it gives you time to interact with your companions.... except the music was so loud that we could not hear each other, we had to yell to be heard, which is not fun after the first 5 minutes. I really wish they would play the music more in the background. Our experience would have been perfect and I would have given it a 5 star.
Cooktops are old and non functional. First response when we brought it to their attention was to tell us that it was on its highest setting and that there were no other tables available. When we told them that that was not an option and that we wouldn’t stay they moved us to a functioning table. Then they dmitted that the front tables were old and needed replacing. They knew the problem and still sat customers at the tables. They didn’t offer much apologies or any comps. I would’ve appreciated a comp on the meat that we had attempted to cook on the broken grill. It was a definite letdown.
Had lunch and ordered some of the pre-cooked menu items. Was tasty but disappointed at how small the portions were and how little meat there was in the items "with beef". Wondering if the experience would have been better going with the BBQ items? May or may not go back to try.
We had a very nice dinner here. Ordered the 4 person and few extras as we had a 5 year old too. The beef was amazing and very good quality. Meal was nice and well paced except the waitress seemed in a hurry and tried 3 times to order a beer. When I finally did my draft beer still took 10 plus minutes to get there and arrived after food did. The restaurant has a lot of noise so was difficult to hear the conversation even at your table. The s’mores were a hit. All in all it’s a good place and we left stuffed and happy.
Very friendly staff and tasty food. The only problem is I always eat way too much everytime I go!
The food was amazing. Sometimes the staff was a little absent, had to wait a lot to reffil the drinks, but it didn't made any difference. I'll definitely come back!
The super happy hour is good
