Hal's - Buckhead
Made reservations for a special occasion 2 1/2 weeks in advance. Got the table closest to the bar with a hallway directly behind me. For the prices they charge I expect the noise level to be low enough to hear a table conversation. Instead we got “Spring Break in Cancun” on MTV. Made it extraordinarily difficult to enjoy what would have been the best steak of my life.
Classic Atlanta restaurant with outstanding food, service and variety in menu. Not for those seeking an ambiance that will allow intimate conversation as the tables are super close and the noise is extremely loud. Great service from wait staff. Unfortunately, hostesses and female barkeeps are scantily clad and give off a cheap impression for such an established restaurant. Food is impeccable however amd can’t be beat for quality and price point.
I have been going to Hal’s for twenty years and I love this restaurant. However, the last few visits have been disappointing with the lack of service and arrogance of a few waiters. I am not hard to please but rude behavior is unacceptable. Food is always impeccably prepared and delicious. Getting your wine in the middle of your meal after waiting and served with a growl is not. I will go back but will be not served by this waiter.
The hostess seated us and the table was in an awkward location in the restaurant. We asked to move but she said no this is my favorite seat and we didn't push on it. Servers bumped into our table at least 5 times. Food was good though. They don't allow wine from outside at all even with a corkage fee. The wine by the glass menu is very limited. It was just very busy and hectic. Not a great place to go to wind down on a Friday evening after a long work week.
Had new friends move to ATL and I’d been raving about Hal’s for years. Hal’s once again did not disappoint and we had a delicious meal. Looking forward to my next visit.
Heath was FANTASTIC! Loved our food— especially the lobster Mac n cheese! Great experience and ambience!
Hal's is an Atlanta icon and I always love taking clients/family/friends there because because it is unique and definetly a part of Buckhead history. The biggest complaint I have is that the food (steaks, sea bass, Brussel sprouts, mushrooms, escargot, bread, pasta) all tasted like it had been cooked in pure butter. Yes, butter is good and makes everything taste great, but not in everything. That was my biggest disappointment. The bar scene is one of a kind and it is always bustling and busy and where else can you still find "happy hour" with a piano man? The bar tenders and servers are MORE than accommodating and take such good care of you. It was my daughter's 21st birthday and I wanted her to have the best steak in Atlanta but it disappointed.
Table for 2 was small against a wall. Server was on time but did not really care about us. 39th anniversary and we ordered cocktails but had to get a waiter going by to get us second serving of water. Asked about potatoes and server replied" they are listed on menu". I knew that but had left glasses in car. When meal was over server asked what we wanted for dessert and we declined
. He advised it was comped to us so he was bringing it anyway so what did we want? We declined. Not very pleasant server so we ate and left.
Our entire experience was excellent from the valet to the wait staff. Our waiter offered suggestions when prompted, was courteous and prompt. I can not say enough about the food! Simply amazing.
I wish I knew it was a smoking friendly restaurant. Hostess was not helpful when I asked to be seated away from smoke while waiting for table...she told me and my boyfriend to wait in lobby by door when they was a room full of clearly visible tables. I will NEVER GO BACK AGAIN. DO NOT RECOMMEND. Go to Ruth Chris, or Houston's much better steaks and service!
ish was fire dawg me and da homies def be back for seconds shiiii maybe thirds b
Food wasn’t as good as my previous visits. Steak and salmon a little over done. Nice atmosphere but probably be awhile before I return.
First visit and definitely will not be my last!! Server was Hasan and he was awesome from beginning to end!!
The steak was amazing but HUGE! The aides were large as well so we each ordered one and shared them.
It's our go-to place whenever we can't decide where to go.
Outstanding dinner. Crowded, but thats how i expect a restaurant like Hals to be. People brag about the location of high-end restaurants, but Hal’s is a hidden gem. I felt tingly walking in and fully satisfied walking out. Don’t miss your chance. ZERO complaints on my end.
The food was amazing. However, we had reservation at 7:30, arrived at 7:20 (so went and had a drink at the bar in front of hostess stand), by 8:00 we had to ask about our reservation and it was clear they had forgotten about us. The manager got involved and had us seated at 8:10. Downstairs is very noisy for dinner, but upstairs is lovely. Our waiter was very attentive and on the ball!
Best new york strip I've ever had. Tender and flavor packed. My friends had filet mignon which were melt in your mouth good. Also best mac n cheese anywhere. The food was all excellent, beyond expectations. Service was exceptional. It was a little loud from conversation of other diners but it was manageable.
The price is 50$ give or take for a steak, so not an every day dine if you are on a budget.
Parking is valet only which is my only real complaint. But it's in buckhead, so space is at a premium
Best ribeye in Atlanta, but not the most expensive.
Hal's is a wonderful place. My wife and I like the atmosphere of being near the bar and piano. That does increase the noise level and as I mentioned in the initial questions it is noisy. But there are quiet areas also upstairs if you prefer that. The bar is amazing in that even with cigar smoking your rarely smell it. The wine list and food possibilities are very good. We do not live in Atlanta but go there monthly and try to visit Hal's. You will see old friend there. Terry
Loved everything about Hal’s and will definitely be back!
Afraid the restaurant was just too loud so it took away from the experience. We had a reservation but still had a twenty minute wait. Our waiter was very good but things did feel a bit rushed as they had a crowd.
Outstanding meal and service. Energy in the place was great, but just a bit too crowded and loud.
Amazing as always 👍🏼
Went here for my Father's 70th Birthday because he is a meat and potatoes guy. Our server, Hakkan, was amazing! He was extremely attentive and answered our many questions with no hesitation. We had the fried oysters and grilled oysters, filet oscar, Bone-In Ribeye, and about 5 different sides and everything was amazing! If we are ever in town again we will definitely be back! Thank you!
Loving the oysters and the Lobster Labeaux as well as the steaks. Fantastic service.
Food was excellent but service was mediocre. Wait staff mixed up entrees for entire table. Two of the steaks were not even cooked to correct temperature but staff did not know because they did not check back with the table. Lighting is very low. Most tables had out cellphones for flashlight. We tried using the candle but still difficult and very awkward. I expected better from Hal's!
Anniversary dinner and everything was fabulous! Next time I will request the upstairs patio just for something different. Jeff was server and was excellent!
Hal's is a Buckhead institution. Amazing steak and service. Definitely will be back.
Jeff was a consummate professional waiter - exceptional in his craft -
the Louisiana flair to many menu items are great -
Osso Bucco was Huge ; next time we'd order the salmon Med vs MW; Seabass special was excellent; Lobster was good - would make easier to extract for diner; salad and apps good - brussel sprouts a tad over cooked and bit "flat" - i liked but 2 at table did not -
Was a B day for mother - Jeff made very special indeed
Jeff guided us on wine - we got 2 bottles (off menu list) so had to have been good - i was ok with price but prehaps should have been told up front (only neg.
Favorite Steak house in Atlanta and Top 5 in the country!
The service is always impeccable and the quality of the steaks is up there with the best of 'em!
One of my ATL go to's for a great meal.
When reservation made explained it was a dinner to celebrate my son’s birthday
However not one mention of the birthday fm arrival to leaving...
Hal's is a great time! There was a lot of energy in the dining room with many tables of friends enjoying themselves. We went as a table of 2 and while it was quite loud at times, there are intimate areas of the dining room and we thoroughly enjoyed dinner.
Best steakhouse. Wonderful experience, Great food!
Excellent food and service. Pleasant but not pretentious atmosphere. I would definitely return.
Had a great time, my server Abi was EXCELLENT! Super attentive and really ensure that we had a great experience
Unparalleled food! Can't say enough about the quality and flavor. A little loud and dark for my taste, but well worth the food.
As we have recently moved from TX to GA we were not familiar with Hal's - but on a recent plane trip the lady sitting next to me was returning to Dallas and we began to discuss steak houses. I told her of my top three in Dallas and she shared her favorites in Atlanta. Being that we now live in Buckhead she strongly suggested we go to Hal's as she and her family liked the feel and atmosphere, live music, as well as the top quality service and steaks. We thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience! The menu, including wine & liquor list was very encompassing. Our waiter, Robert, was very knowledgeable and attentive, without being on top of us. Our entree's were well prepared and "right on." The desert - Bourbon Bread Pudding - was exceptional. We had a great evening!
We will be back very soon to see Robert and enjoy Hal's again.
EXCELLENT FOOD AND SERVICE!!! I LOOK FORWARD TO GOING BACK TO HAL'S SOON!
