Since it was a cold evening and there were few there, we were fortunate we could leave the window seat and move inside. There was a very cold draft coming off the tall window.
The mens wash room really needs an inside rebuild as the entrance is TOO small.
The Hart House is a wonderful restaurant to celebrate Valentine's Day. With the warm cozy fireplace at the entrance and the beautiful "glassed-in" sunroom on a sunny, snow-filled day overlooking Deer Lake, it doesn't get any better. Food and service was great!
Excellent lamb shank entre -ordered by 3 of us - was hands down best we have ever had! Beautiful setting & layout. Outstanding service by all. Highly recommended.
Try the Dine Out (extended 1 week) Sturgeon. Amazing!
Exceptional service and nice environment. Though will not recommend raw food.
Disappointed no lunch menu on Sunday. Special wasn’t good value at all.
First time there and was very disappointed.
Food is OK, but too overpriced for the value. Ambient is very old school and service was just Ok.
Had not been to Hart House for few years. The setting is still great the food not so much. We were there during dine out Vancouver so I know they like to move people along but as soon as we put done our utensils the plate was picked up whether quite ready or not and then the next one was brought out. Between dishes 5 minutes did not even pass. The mushroom soap was fantastic the lamb was extremely gamey tasting and not enjoyable. The dessert was very average we tried the chocolate and shortbread and neither would I ever order again. The whole experience was okay wont be back for a few more years.
Great food and ambiance. Will defiantly go back!
Our server was too soft spoken, and it felt like we had to please him to get things done.
Food was underwhelming. No vegetables, just starch and protein . We expected the restaurant to feel cosier being in an old house.
I went during the Vancouver dine out 2019. When we were served the main course I was amazed of the small portion with the fish and no vegetables with it. The lamb shank was chewy. However the wine is double the cost ..ridiculous price!!
We loved eating at the Hart House. The house is beautiful and a wondering setting for dining with friends and family. Every table was busy but the noise level was minimal. The service was excellent. It was an anniversary celebration and from the moment we walked into the house we were welcomed with greetings of Happy Anniversary. We participated in the Dine Out experience. The cuisine selections were tantalizing and hard to chose, they all sounded so good. So we each tried something different and sampled each other. It has been many years since we last dined at Hart House as we've moved out of the area, but we will definitely return. We would wholeheartedly recommend this venue to our friends and family
We can’t wait to go back again, this place is a hidden gem.
Always enjoy finding an excuse to go to the Hart House and Dine out Vancouver was as good as any reason. Very nice selections and none of us left wanting more.
Welcoming a new member to our family.
Went during dine out Vancouver. Service from kitchen was a bit slow, server came by twice to apologize. Other than that the rest of the meal was good.
Service was very good, food also as expected. Good wine list fast preparation
Probably one of the most beautiful settings in the lower mainland, an old mansion on a lake. Large property, would be a beautiful spot for a wedding or reunion. My only suggestion is that they consider a low sodium menu option for those of us with high blood pressure or heart conditions and I would ask all restaurants to consider this option.
My husband and I had an absolutely wonderful meal here! We cannot recommend it highly enough. We thought they might not be kid-friendly since they seem a little on the fancier side, but we brought our 8 month-old baby just in case. We're so glad we did! We were welcomed with open arms! Everyone was so wonderful with her, the food was fantastic and the service was fast and friendly. Looking forward to many more date nights here!
Expected a lot more from the food. My girlfriends dish was great, but I wasn’t happy with my main course. Otherwise everything else was good.
Food was bland and mediocre. Desserts were good. Kitchen was held up so we waited a while for food. The waiter was nice but he was very busy with a bigger table. Our bill was wrong as they pressed in extra price for desserts rather than one pirece for dine out. We spent 2.5 hours here as it took forever for our meals, was disappointed as it was my mother's birthday.
Went for a special occasion and were a little disappointed. We are used to such a high quality in food and service and it was lacking this time. I understand that they were fully booked and it was Dine Out, but our waiter seemed more interested in his other tables than he was with ours. One of my pet peeves is sitting in front of a plate that I am done with and watching my waiter/waitress walk by and not pick it up. This happened with all three courses that night. The young lady filling the water glasses was right on keeping our glasses full. The other waiter ended up bringing us our main and our dessert, so 2/3 of our meal, as our waiter seemed to be disinterested in us. Like I stated earlier, we are used to such a high calibre of service and were disappointed. The food was quite good. The lamb shank was well seasoned and it was the first time we had tried Israeli cous cous, so I'm not sure if it was undercooked or not. It seemed a little dry and starchy. I had the mandarin mousse for dessert and I felt that the layers were not in harmony with each other, so I ended up eating them separately. All in all, the food was good, the waiter, not so much.
Excellent food as always but it was very noisy maybe have background music lower.
very good setting for old acquiance gathering , quiet and relaxed
Me and my husband had a great anniversary dinner here! Great food/service and nice ambiance! It’s not too casual neither too formal so it was just right for us!
Staff were very attentive and ambience was very nice. However, the food quality was rather disappointing: The Kale Caesar Salad was a nice twist on the odd staple but was drowned in too much dressing, the Arctic Char was overcooked and very dry and the Hart House Burger was not distinguishable from any pub food, lacked sophistication and a nice presentation as well. Finally, the Gingerbread Creme Brulee came in a tiny bowl with a tiny piece of biscotti on the plate, no nice presentation at all and at a cost of $11.00! Overall, if you come for the atmosphere you'll have a nice experience, that's what you pay for (big time) but better not to expect great food.
Lovely setting. Tasty food. Friendly staff. Delicious rich food. Local wines good selection. You should go there. Especially if you like the old colonial building with contemporary menu. And you can always get French fries cos some days you just need fries!
Excellent experience all around! From the time we entered the door until we left! Amazing food, wine, cocktails, service, view and ambience!
Was a lovely dinner with a wonderful atmosphere and service. Thank you!
We were 3 couples for New Year’s Eve. The atmosphere at Hart House is always lovely. Our dinners were absolutely delicious and conversation was not a problem because the background music is just that, background! I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this restaurant.
My Husband and I went for the first time Christmas day and went back with some friends the following week as we all enjoyed the food, service and the whole Hart House.
Me and my husband made Hart House a tradition that we do every year around Christmas. The food is always delicious and atmosphere was wonderful. Can't wait to go back again!
Staff were very good, food quality was excellent. Overall a great experience
Menu, stated roast turkey, we ordered as stated and received processed rolled bacon wrapped fillets, cold bacon fatty and not cooked. This can be ordered from M&M frozen food, veg, Brussel sprouts were raw, bread dressing was dry and over cooked. Dessert had gelatin in the chocolate cake not edible. As my guests had flown in from England this was very embarrassing, suppose to be a special occasion after spending several hundred dollars we re very disappointed. Staff did not ask how we enjoyed our dinner and I can understand why!!! This bad experience will not allow us to return to Hart House.
Christmas dinner was fabulous. The food was perfectly cooked and beautifully presented. I loved that we could have the tasting of a traditional Turkey dinner but with a modern presentation. The soup had so much flavor and the desserts were the perfect amount of sweetness.
Very skillfully crafted food and the service was excellent! Attentive but not overbearing. We came for the Christmas day menu and were very happy with the 10/10 food. The only downside is that it was incredibly noisy-not that the restaurant has any fault in that but it was very loud and I wonder if there's anything that can help with the acoustics while preserving the integrity of the building. The inner decor was disappointing compared to the outside architecture, very plain. Still the food and staff make this venue outstanding overall.
We had our Christmas dinner here and it was the perfect venue. Warm and polite staff, prompt service and delicious food!
We visited December 24 for the evening 3 course dinner. My brother, mother and I wanted to enjoy Christmas with a special dinner so we didn’t have to cook ourselves. The hosts were outstanding and charming. The meal was wonderful. The wait staff were wonderful. The only downside was that we were placed next to a long table with very noisy guests. At times it was too much to even hear ourselves talk at our table. I had expected a quiet, enjoyable dinner by the fireplace but the noisiness of the next table ruined the ambiance I was expecting.
However, all around the experience was positive. Keep doing what you are doing. I will be back but hope to have a quieter pleasant experience:)
House is fantastic but we found the food was only good didn’t match our expectations unfortunately
