Great food and fun ambience. Watch for the small print and the upcharges though. We got surprised, as I didn't expect so many of them! It did leave a sourness the meal did not deserve.
Another fantastic experience at the Hart House -- a lovely Thanksgiving brunch with top-notch dishes and great service.
Great service with wonderful food. Highly recommended to everyone. Price is reasonable too.
I've been going to Hart House for over 10 years now, with two visits in the last year or so. I have to say that those last two visits were a little disappointing in terms of food selection. In this caliber of a venue I am used to having to choose between at least 2, if not 3 main courses that I really would like to have, but at Hart House I had only one. I would have also liked to have a better choice of salads, as only one was a bit more inspiring (the other being Caesar salad). What I've also noticed this time around is the fact that the place could use a bit of updating (a new carpet perhaps?).
Having said that, the food that we've ordered was really tasty, the service was good and friendly and the ambiance very pleasant. It was a special occasion, as we were treating our dear friend on her birthday, so we didn't want to rush, and we weren't. We felt very welcomed and we did have a very nice evening!
Heart house restaurant is a quaint venue off of Burnaby Lake. The restaurant is an old mansion, and as a result window seats can be fairly drafty due to the aging structure, I recommend women bring a shawl and men wear a sweater or jacket in the fall and winter. The food is very well done, but the menu is not extensive. They also do not accommodate for food allergies or sensitivities very well at all. This venue would be nice for special occasions. The staff is attentive and professional.
Great that it has just celebrated its 30th anniversary. Not many restaurants last so long. Congratulations!
Perfect. The food, the wine, the service, the view, the atmosphere, the little extra for the birthday dessert. Everything was absolutely perfect. Loved it.
It was very nice but the food could be improved upon.
We got married at the Hart house eleven years ago ....and have been going back for our anniversary ever since. Oddly enough .... they remember our wedding
As always, a lovely dining experience.
Had the pleasure of celebrating our one year wedding anniversary at the restaurant after having our wedding there. They were extremely welcoming and made the evening magical. Thank you Hart House!
I have been to Hart House a number of times now. I have never been disappointed.
Very nice, laid back but classy at the same time. Service was very good, the food was great and the overall ambience was just right. Recommended.
An extremely pleasant evening was spoiled by two separate groups of patrons who thought everyone in the restaurant should hear their conversation, and share their enjoyment.
A lovely birthday celebration, the food was great!
This is a very special place. The heritage building just adds so much to the meal!
many positive visits previously; unfortunately, service not great this time, eg, ordered glass of sparking wine; when it hadn't arrive when server asked if main was ok, some time after main eceived, I said wine hadn't been received and cancelled; later, ordered tea, pot arrived, no cup, took a while to catch someone to ask for cup
We had a wonderful experience from start to the end of the evening. The reception as we arrived was quite warm and friendly and the staff took time to chat and explain a bit of the history of the Hart House as we were both new arrivals from Toronto. Our waitress was very helpful and patient answering our questions about the special 30th Anniversary menu and helped us select a wonderful 3 course dinner. The dining room atmosphere was quite comfortable even though it was one of those cool rainy Vancouver evenings. Service was timed very well and we never felt rushed. We had had a visit from the General Manager and he was very pleasant and answered a few more of our questions concerning the House. When our evening was done we had had a great culinary experience - great food, great service and great atmosphere. I'm very much looking forward to our next opportunity to enjoy a very special evening.
Great service, fantastic food. Accommodated our children's needs too.
This is definitely a great restaurant to go to. Love there choices on the menu.
Fantastic experience as always. It's a great local restaurant that makes every season fun. Ian is a fantastic and entertaining server.
Enjoyed our 20th Wedding Anniversary! We had our wedding reception at the Hart House 20 years ago and thought it would be nice to celebrate our anniversary there
The venue of Hart House is quite lovely and charming - the Victorian/Edwardian house is beautiful, and the terrace dining outside is very tranquil. That being said, I felt that dining outside was lacking two things:
a) better lighting (there were just exterior security-type spot lights affixed to the house - table candles would have been nice, or strung bistro lights overhead); and
b) light ambiant music (there was no music whatsoever outside, so it was very easy to hone in on other diners' conversations, rather than having a nice din of background music).
Foodwise, the meal was good, but not really exceptional - we started with a summer salad which was really delicious with pickled beets and goat cheese. For entrees we had the Crab spaghettini and the "Surf and Turf" (Pork belly and scallops). The pasta had big chunks of crab claws (excellent!) and had a nice bit of heat, but was a bit dry in terms of sauce. The Surf and Turf was good - the pork belly had a lovely sauce and the scallops were perfectly cooked - but my biggest critism would be that the polenta underneath had whole kernels of corn in it. This really detracted from the dish as it made the polenta sweet instead of savoury, and provided an undesired texture. There was already a lot going on on the plate and the corn kernels were really unnecessary. Creamy, salty polenta is a lovely base on its own. The morel mushrooms didn't really add anything either, but that might be because they didn't really go with the corny polenta.
Overall, we may come back, but there are better restaurants around for a special occasion with better ambience. Sorry Hart House!
Amazing waiter. Friendly staff greeted us. Great seating.
Excellent food and service in a wonderful old-world charm setting!
The Parmesan crusted chicken was bland and very disappointing. There was hardly any sauce nor vegetables (except for 5 peas).
Food was average. Nothing special.
Love the old house in the park setting! Service was a bit on the slow side but we were fine with that - more time to chat. Food was good - had the special pasta and it was delicious.
We had a lovely dinner with friends. The food was excellent. We have been to Hart House several times and have always enjoyed. This was the best food experience.
We had our 5th anniversary dinner here and had a wonderful time. The service was extremely personable. We sat on the patio which had a nice view of the lake. There was a wedding happening in the tent, which provided some entertainment. The food was very good and so were the cocktails.
Overall it was a great first visit!
I made reservation at 7:00 pm. We arrived on time. We stood at the front desk for almost 10 mins and nobody come to greet us even though a few staff walked by and saw us. When the receptionist finally came, she checked on the computer for a couple of minutes. Totally not ready. Our server is a middle age guy. I would say he was courteous in a cold way. I did not feel a real welcome atmosphere. Appetizer was good. Main course average. Dessert was a bit disappointing. Not fresh at all. With the kind of price paid, I would not go again.
Ian is the best server. We keep coming back because of him. That day there were a lot of kids running around which I found distracting.
We waited for ten years, it was worth the wait
I don't know why we waited so long
We know the next visit will be sooner
Great dinner, there was a wedding going on at the same time on the lawn so fun to watch as well.
Great service by Sonja and staff! Highly recommend. Been going here for over a decade and never disappoints.
The steelhead was delicious, cheeses burger enjoyed, disappointed in the catch of the day, crab pasta okay
Enjoy the location and venue
Came here for lunch with the parents. Service was good, took awhile for the main entrees to arrive, but they offer bread and it is very peaceful there. Great place for dates, just make sure you have the time for a longer sitting.
The Friendly Staff was accommodating. We went on a Tuesday so not sure how it is on the weekend. We did a reservation and was quick and efficient. Overall it was really good and would come again.
On a sunny summer afternoon there is no better place than on the patio overlooking the lake as kayakers go by and summer kids camp walk the shoreline. We had salads with an unexpected surprise of rhubarb done perfectly. The complimentary bread is always fresh and plentiful. The bottle of water was welcome on a hot summer day. ahh...its just so pleasant.
