Harvest Room - Fairmont Hotel Macdonald
LOCAL. SEASONAL. SUSTAINABLE. We also offer complimentary Wifi for our Diners.
Excellent service and delicious food. Would recommend for a special occasion.
It was awesome
I have had high tea in other cities (mostly Vancouver), including the Fairmont Hotel in Vancouver. Considering the cost was on the high end, I was surprised by the following:
1.The table and chairs were older, and plain. Noticed some paint pealing on the sides of the chairs.
2.Our loose tea was placed in the tea strainer and hot water was placed in a very small pot. I think the waiter expected us to pour our hot water over the tea directly into our cups. Tea needs to be steeped, so I put my tea leaves into the pot instead. The waiter had to then keep returning to fill up our small pots with hot water. Other high teas provide actual teapots that hold more water.
3.We received 2 scones each (the plain one was not needed and only served to fill us both up). Again, the waiter seemed to be waiting for us both to finish the scones before bringing the tier of other items. The scones should have been brought in on the tier and only 1 scone each was sufficient.
4.There was no cream on our table, so had to request this. The sugar was in the usual wrappers (found in any restaurant). At other high teas, the sugar is usually in its own china bowl.
5. The tea cups were not china tea cups, just regular white coffee cups.
6. The cucumber sandwich was too large, and was merely a piece of bread with a thin layer of cream cheese and thin layer of cucumbers. Not chef quality.
7. Because of the high ceilings, conversations made the noise level louder, however, the awful "rock" type music did not fit in with the setting and only contributed to the noise level.
I must admit I was sorely disappointed, especially since this was the first experience of high tea for my friend. This was especially a disappointment considering where we were, in such a beautiful hotel...wow!
The highlight was the tour afterwards, but I would not return for high tea again and would probably not recommend it. Sorry!
Great food! Great place for special occasions or to treat an important person
Excellent food and great service. Very friendly staff.
I had a wonderful time catching up with my mother and sister. The tea, food and mimosas were delicious.
Nice place and great ambiance....the service was a bit slow and they were busier than usual...they were apologetic. My meal was salty and they offered to remake it but I refused...it is uncomfortable to have everyone at the table wait while you wait for your food to be replaced with a fresh meal. Overall, they were very nice and friendly. Great place for a nice dress up dinner.
Had a really great time and so cool our waitress was somebody i went to school with.
The portions were very small in comparison to the high price. I’ve been to the restaurant a couple times a few years ago when the new executive chef first started, and the food was excellent, but it felt like a sharp decline this time. Quite disappointing experience. Hope they bring back the food and menu selection they had a few years ago.
Thanks to Nipun Wasdev we had a remarkable dinner celebrating my brother and sister-in-law's anniversary. Everything was perfect from the food, presentation, ambiance and service.
The lobster Bisque was delicious.
The salad was generous.
The lamb was cooked to perfection.
The rib eye steak was too thin but the portion was generous. Having it too thin makes it dry out quickly when cooked. It was a little dry.
The tenderloin was tasty, but the vegetables and potatoes did not suit the guest.
The desserts were passable, but I would not order them again.
The restaurant was so noisy. The server apologized several times so I’m thinking it was abnormal to have that much noise. It was our 25th Wedding anniversary and I was hoping for a more romantic experience, instead we were treated to people hooting and hollering. Two large parties we happening in the restaurant. Also, trying to choose a wine from their list was painful. They didn’t have our first two choices and ended up bringing a wine that was not on the list.
We did the tea and tour. The food was delicious. It was dissatisfying
Fantastic meals. Just enough for lunch. A little pricey. Bring back the Express lunch!
Excellent meal and service. Expensive meal and serving size small.
Nice room..great service..food overpriced... But worth a groupon
Considering the waiters were run off their feet they did an exceptional job.
The food was outstanding!
The furniture needs to be renewed and I miss the tablecloths.
This is Edmonton’s premiere restaurant. Clean the patio windows the view is stunning!
I brought my mom and mother in law for mother's day tea this past weekend. Douglas was an amazing server! Food was overwhelmingly good, the sweets were really sweet! The only thing that I was disappointed about was that we were unable to see the Queen's suite or any suite. But the weather was gorgeous and it was nice to be out on the patio and garden. Would highly recommend high tea at the Fairmont and would do this again 😊.
Very disappointed with my visit. Can see the restaurant is trying to cut corners. Not enough staff, no table cloth, and rushed service. Food tasted ok but not worth the price. While considering doing the wine pairing menu, the waiter suggested we “just get a bottle of wine, it’s cheaper”. Not a good experience and will not return.
Jacob was an amazing server! We weren’t celebrating anything specific but he made us feel so special and even treated us to a little something sweet at the end of the meal! 5 stars for Jacob!
The whole night was exceptional. The wait staff and our server “Dew” did their utmost and were extremely attentive!
For a birthday dinner, I have to say I was slightly disappointed when I was brought to the table by the hostess and she led me to believe I was going to be getting a special surprise for my birthday. I’ve read many other reviews on Open Table with great highlights of people saying that this restaurant was excellent for special occasions- the restaurant going out of their way to make that person’s dinner special. Usually this came in the form of dessert, where the waiter comes out with a gorgeous plate with “Happy Birthday” or another special occasion spelled out. Unfortunately, even though the hostess told me that they had something special planned for me, the dinner was no more special than a regular dinner. It’s a total shame, because the entree I ordered was excellent. I believe the food is truly phenomenal, but sadly for a special occasion dinner, this restaurant fell completely short of my expectations. For someone at the front to tell a guest that something special is being planned for their occasion whatever it may be, and then for the waiter or server to completely ignore and not acknowledge it is done in horribly poor taste.
Open table failed to advise Harvest Room was closed, we were moved to the lounge, eating sitting in arm chairs.
Classic dining experience in a pleasant historic setting. We had one of the tables with a view of the terrace and river valley. The service was very good and the server pleasant and unpretentious. We had the chateaubriand for two. The beef was excellent and expertly prepared. The presentation was creative. The desserts were excellent.
High Tea is now in the lounge vs the Harvest Room dining room. The lounge is certainly pleasant enough and has a good view of the river valley. The High Tea is good value and the service was very attentive, but not bothersome.
When making reservations at the Fairmont they require a credit card up front which seems odd. And if you don't cancel in time, you will be charged the full amount. I suspect they have had too many no shows, and are not willing to put up with that. It is a bit distasteful for such a high caliber hotel, but I guess this is the new economy.
High tea is a lovely experience at The Mac!
The high tea food does not measure up to its price. For example, the cucumber cream cheese finger sandwich, you can tell the cucumber was not freshly cut; and the chicken sandwich as well, the chicken does not look like it's freshly made, or maybe it just has been prepared earlier and was put aside. Some of the edges of that chicken salad was dry. The pastries are ok, but was definitely expect more for $60 value.
One of my most favorite restaurants in the city, excellent!
Our server, Michelle, was fantastic! Very friendly and prompt service and went the extra mile to ensure we had a good dining experience. The food was very good, however, not comparable to the Fairmont Sunday Brunch!
Our overall experience was good. I felt my salmon was a bit well done and the accompaniments a bit heavy but all together our experience was nice. The service was wonderful and I love the options when dinning with children. Thank You for a nice evening.
The Easter high tea was fabulous. The service was exceptional. My daughter enjoyed the fresh baked scones, Devonshire cream and berry compote. The sorbet with the mint caviar was so refreshing. I’m dreaming about it now. Tea sandwiches and decadent desserts were beautifully designed. The pastry chef made and extra Easter surprise for us and we were delighted. The staff went above and beyond. Thank you to Douglas our server and all the other staff for making our Easter so special.
We love high tea and will be back again.
The dining experience was enjoyable and the food was very tasty.
The food and service is always amazing. Totally worth the price!
Everything was great. Value was rated low due to portion sizes. Two scallops per order? Very expensive for what you get
We went there to celebrate a Birthday. We had a great experience. The food and service was amazing. We will definitely be back.
We had a wonderful time celebrating my daughters birthday!
Impressive experience. Much better than I hoped for.
Food was good small plate expensive service good fancy restaurant
A great way to celebrate my mom's birthday. Very friendly server!!
The staff were friendly and accommodated our parties' dietary needs and allergies. I highly recommend this unique experience.
