Harvest Room - Fairmont Hotel Macdonald
LOCAL. SEASONAL. SUSTAINABLE. We also offer complimentary Wifi for our Diners.
I cannot say enough great things about this place. From the welcoming and kind staff they were ALL so charming and made my feel like absolute royalty. The food was delicious and presented with such charm.
I have already spoken to many friends and highly recommended not only the event but the hotel and restaurant.
Thanks to your whole team for helping to make such a memorial able afternoon.
Meal was amazing and the service was Excellent
My husband ordered the filet mignon. He asked for it to be butterflied while cooking in order for it to be cooked well done. Instead he got a very crispy burnt outer layer with a medium interior. It was butterflied after cooking. The vegetables were semi raw and not pleasant to eat other than the beets. Very disappointing considering the cost. Our entire meal cost $226. I do not think it was worth it. $80 of that was for the least expensive red wine on the menu. Mediocre at best. Sorry, had a better meal and better value at the LaRonde!
The Lamb was so tender, you could cut it with a spoon! Excellent meal!
We went there for our anniversary, the food and service was excellent.
The ambience was good
The service was good
The food was average
The Harvest Room at The Hotel MacDonald is a great overall experience. Being a hotel originally built by the railway over 100 years ago, it still maintains it's fantastic atmosphere. Staff is ultra professional, enjoyed our anniversary inner immensely.
We were rather disappointed in our meal and service was slow. While components of the vegan meal were fine, the beans were the worst, most flavorless beans we've ever had. If this was any other dining experience, we'd leave it alone, but due to the very high cost and the quality we know the Harvest Room can have (or at least once had,) we feel the need to complain. The service seemed to be understaffed as our drinks even took longer than they should have.
You can always count on excellent service at the Harvest Room and this visit was no exception. Dew made some good suggestions and provided service that was attentive without being intrusive. The dining room was nicely decorated for Christmas and there was even a nice view of the brightly lit tree outside.
My husband and I both ordered the beef tenderloin. Dew kindly accommodated my husband's request for vegetables other than the beets that came with the meal. The leek mashed potatoes were delicious, but were a little on the cool side instead of piping hot. The only real disappointment of the evening was the star of the show, the beef tenderloin. The medium rare cook was a little on the rare side for us and the meat was quite under seasoned. This was the second time I had ordered this dish and I thought perhaps, the under seasoning was a one time error, but unfortunately, it was not. More salt and pepper definitely would have made for a tastier steak. We finished our meal by sharing a piece of the carrot cake. It was nicely spiced and richly dense and moist. The cream cheese icing could have been a touch sweeter but was still enjoyable.
Fantastic sever and interaction. Food was very good and we would return again! Thanks for a wonderful dining-out experience.
We had a great experience and highly recommend it! Can't wait to go back!
After my last experience I would not recommend the Harvest Room to a friend. The service is not as good as it used to be. The waiter splashed the water and wine when he poured. The ordered dishes were brought out to our tablet and set in front of us in a hurried fashion. The quality of the food is a definite step down from what it used to be in the past. The portion sizes are reduced such as the beef tenderloin which I ordered. For the price that I paid the value is not there. I have dined at the Harvest Room many times in the past and enjoyed my visit with excellent service from very friendly waiters, nice room ambiance and excellent food preparation. In my opinion it has taken a big step backwards. I do not plan to return to the Harvest Room as there are other much better restaurants in Edmonton such as Sabor that provides much better food , better service and better room ambiance. I am saddened to see the decline in this restaurant.
My wife and I decided to celebrate our New Year dinner early this year at the Harvest Room. the service was not great as you would expect at a higher caliber restaurant, it wasn't terrible but the waiter seemed to be preoccupied and just going through the motions to get through his shift. twice i had trouble getting his attention literally having to wave with both hands even though he was looking right past me?! I had the beef short rib plate which was very good but my wife's pasta dish had no flavor and was a disappointment. We were both surprised at the lack of ambiance in the room with bare walls and virtually no decorations for the season other than a drab painting and a small table with a few ornaments at the entrance, this was in stark contrast to the lounge entrance which had an actual ginger bread entrance. For the $250 tab and the location we expected a lot more, we will be checking out another option for a nice dinner going forward.
Excellent, except we had on person in our party who required a gluten free menu. They accommodated but the gluten free menu was also vegan unnecessarily and significantly less good than the regular menu. I expected more from the Hotel MacDonald.
For a place if this caliber you’d expect them to be able to cook a steak properly, but no. Great cut of meat though and veg mains were excellent. Service is top notch
Food was excellent! Service is fantastic! Our Server Rhena was outstanding! She even got us a thoughtful little cake for our anniversary! The only downer is it’s too loud and we should have requested for a window table!👋♥️
My husband got the Santa Fe bowl which was quite small the rest of us got the buffet which was good . Nice that you can order fresh omelettes with the buffet and they special ordered me Gf Pancakes. The service was outstanding. We would go back just to have the same waitress and of course the ambiance of Hotel Mac is just amazing!
The food was excellent... one of the best we’ve had in many years. My husband had the tenderloin... so tender and full of flavour... I had the cod.. which by itself is usually rather bland.. but this was in a creamy sauce with so many levels of flavours.. very delicious. The portions were just right for us but if you are used to bigger portions you may want to order an appetizer. There is a good wine selection but quite pricey! Loved the ambience of the historic hotel. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and very positive and upbeat... a really great dining experience!
I took my mom and sister for the Nutcracker High Tea as a gift on December 22, 2019. Seating was at 12:30, we were brought immediately to our table. Our server, Christine, came after a few minutes and introduced herself. We knew which teas we wanted but did not give a chance to tell her before she walked away. She came back after a while and gave us our tea leaves. We waited a little more for hot water. When serving our courses, she did not explain what was in the courses, and had to take the menu from in front of my sister even to say what the items even were. When explaining the sandwiches, she was reading directly off the menu and couldn’t even say some of the items, she couldn’t read pumpernickel so after she tried, she gave up and said “brown bread”. Our tea water was cold in the pots so we asked for replacement water, and she topped off the cold water with hot water to make lukewarm water. This service was very disappointing considering the amount you pay for high tea, as this price should include impeccable service. The waiter that served the table next to us was amazing. He was prompt and gave excellent menu descriptions as the courses were served. I wish he would have served us. As for the food, the tea was great, but the water could have been a bit more hot. The sorbet was amazing, and the scones were to die for. The sandwiches were good, but it was very obvious they were prepped quite a while beforehand. Every piece of bread was dry. The contents of the sandwiches were delicious however. The deserts were great as well, although the other courses were so big we could hardly eat the deserts.
Booked reservation for my wife's 40th birthday. We sat in the lounge before our seating time and had a great time in the lounge . Ambiance was nice, staff friendly and drinks refreshing.
Supper was amazing very flavorful, waitress went above and beyond to make sure everything was great.
Would highly recommend Harvest Room and will recommend to people
The food was amazing and the service was great. Although the serve time was very slow...have to wait quite long for our main courses. But overall, A++
The food were excellent. The waitress service was good and courteous. But I have couple suggestions:
We were led to a table of 2 on the main floor, by the stairway, with one chair against the rail. My daughter sat down on the chair back to the open area. When I tried to sit down on the chair that back to the upper level, I found that I could not get in because the table was too close to the chair with arms. My daughter had to move the heavy table for me to get it. For a 5 star hotel, the maître d' should pull the chair for the customers to get in and place the chair back closer to the table for the customer to sit down. If this is not your practice, you should at least make sure that the customer has no problem getting in, instead of making a female customer pull the heavy table for her mother to get in.
After dinner we had loose leaves tea. Just pouring the hot water over the tea leaves is not enough to steep the tea. The 'mug' (instead of tea cup) was so big, we had to pour the whole pot of hot water so that the water could reach the leaves, in order to 'steep' the leaves as much as we could. The tea was so weak that we could hardly enjoy it. Suggestion: smaller tea cups, or use tea ball so it can sit in the hot water.
I don't understand what your 'moderate' and 'energetic' level mean in noise level. One table had a baby and the baby cried a little bit. That was not your fault, but I don't know how I should rate that.
Other than above suggested, it was a nice dinner experience. We enjoyed the food very much.
The food and the service were great. The ambiance was very good but, nothing outstanding. I really do think the prices were excessive. Yes, I understand good food with quality ingredients and great service all cost but still, excessive.
I was in Town from LA visiting family before Christmas. I treated my mom and my friends mom to the nutcracker tea and it was a perfect afternoon filled with yummy goodies and chilled champagne. The waiter was excellent and
We took some lovely photos of our beautiful afternoon at the Mac. Tea was a very well priced and a special treat as a prelude to the Christmas holidays.
Went for the first time with my mom and sister-in-law. It was so lovely and relaxing. We actually TALKED... like properly talked, without feeling rushed or distracted at all. The tea, sandwiches, scones, and little desserts were delish, and surprisingly filling. We decided this is going to be an annual Christmas tradition. Highly recommend!
Very small portions. Food was good but very expensive
A nice afternoon getaway. The food was well prepared and delicious. Nice ambiance, high price.
Great service, excellent food - the Harvest Room did not disappoint in any way. We were given a special anniversary dessert, and both our server and the Room manager came over to offer best wishes. Overall, a wonderful experience.
Amazing breakfast here. Loved the Heaven in a Bowl. Super children’s menu as well. Great service. Loved the atmosphere.
Food and service were great as always! Even though it was a buffet, we didn't feel rushed to get out.
We really enjoyed the ambiance, the attentive service, and the good food. The bonus was the huge gingerbread house and tree in the lobby which were enhanced by the children’s choral group.
Menu was superb. Service second to none. Sets itself apart from all other hotel restaurants in Edmonton.
Perfect place for a nice Christmas dinner or very special occasion with significant other. It is now an annual stop for my wife and I just before the Christmas Carol performance.
It is such a treat to come for Christmas High Tea at the Hotel MacDonald. My friend and I have come a number of times in the past few years and it is a highlight of the Holiday season for us.
What is so special is every year there are new creations plus the most important scones.
This year seemed especially welcoming, the staff was so friendly I felt once I walked through the revolving doors I've entered a magical land!
Congratulations to all the staff for making a visit to the MacDonald such a special treat.
The meal was not as fresh as we expected and the seafood was overcooked. If you are looking for a quiet dinner, this dining room was VERY noisy. At our next visit to the hotel we will go across the street to Ruth Chris'.
As always it’s always very beautiful dinning at the Harvest Room at Christmas time. We were disappointed to find out the the Harvest Special (appetizer, main and dessert ) was no longer on the menu. It’s such an expensive night dinning there and without this “special” on the menu it made it an outrageously expensive night.
We had the breakfast buffet Sunday AM in the Harvest Room as well which was very good and quite the deal for the variety of dishes you could choose. The wait staff was incredibly friendly on Sunday. Sunday breakfast made up for Saturday’s dinner. 🙂
Excellent service and very accommodating staff.
Food was delicious and service was amazing! Will definitely be back!
Way overpriced wine list which takes away from an otherwise incredible experience. No reason to triple cost, most places double. Really makes one feel taken advantage of especially since food, service and ambience are incredible.
