Harvest Room - Fairmont Hotel Macdonald
LOCAL. SEASONAL. SUSTAINABLE. We also offer complimentary Wifi for our Diners.
Having frequented the Harvest Room many times over the years, with a few year absence, I was disappointed to see the level of "fine dining" diminished. The lack of linen table clothes and a table nicely appointed were missed. The food was okay. The scallops were the biggest disappointment - two small seared scallops with a smattering of sauces for $23.00, way overpriced! The caesar salad was lacking garlic and far too much dressing was poured on. The Chateaubriand was perfectly done - the au jus was divine, the fingerling and steamed asparagus were good but not anything special - $95.00/couple. The dessert of "burnt honey over ice cream" was delicious but call it what it is: vanilla ice cream with crumbled sponge toffee on top. The service was very good and Ivan was very helpful and pleasant. The ambience was nice and quiet which was appreciated.
I made reservations for harvest room by accident instead of brunch which was 100 percent my fault so we switch to brunch and I was charged 50 percent of $59/person (7people) which equal $216.00 for the harvest room prior to moving over to the brunch side but I was never discounted for senior and a child. And still paid full price for brunch so all in all it ended up being a pricey brunch. Paid 50 percent for 7 full adults to cancel harvest room then paid full again for brunch. Children and seniors are supposed to be discounted.
The Harvest Room is place to go for an anniversary but i think it is way overpriced for the quantity and quality of food. There are so many good restaurants and I probably will not go back again to this location for such an event.
$35 a plate - coming out to some $170 including gratuity for the 4 of us (senior, adult, 17 and 13) was not good value for what we received. The setting is lovely, the service good and the food was good but all together did not add up to such a high price tag.
The food was wonderful, our server was very helpful and knowledgable. Great atmosphere!
A great way to start New Years Day evening. An all around lovely experience with my husband. Great ‘date night.’ Our waiter Dew, and the coat check gal/maître’d were very welcoming and friendly. We will come again! Thank you.
Anniversariy dinner. Superior atmosphere, Excellent service, fine dinning.
This was our first time at this restaurant. It did not disappoint! The ambience, the food, and the service were impeccable!! Our servers name was Jacob and he went above and beyond that of an employee - very considerate of our needs.
Exquisite Christmas dinner. Service and hospitality second to none. Can not fault anywhere
We went for the christmas dinner. It was good, but $420 good? No. I don't think i'll go back for the christmas dinner again. Not because it wasn't good... but because it was too expensive for what i got. Of course all the servings were smaller... but it had more to do do with the odd pairings. While everything was good individually. Not everything went well together that was on your plate. I think for the price for two people it should have been better. These are the only pictures i was able to add. The ones i'm missing are the main course and dessert which were the best courses.
Requested a diabetic high tea menu and a nut free menu when reservations were made. The diabetic menu was ignored. When we flagged this, they brought a bowl of fruit! Pretty pricey fruit for $60+. Disappointing menu and quantity for the price paid.
Our evening dinner at The MacDonald Harvest Room was a very good experience , once again. We treated ourselves to a special dinner for our 43rd wedding anniversary and we thoroughly enjoyed been spoilt and treated in a special way as the usual very good standard of the harvest room. Thank you for a memorable evening.
The attention to detail keeps us coming back. They always ask if the occasion is special and tailor our experience accordingly. We've celebrated many anniversaries there and they make it very enjoyable.
We loved the Christmas tea. When we said my mother-in-law was visiting from out of town, they brought out this beautifully presented tiramisu. Even better? It was the best tiramisu we’d ever tasted.
We had Christmas Tea at the Hotel MacDonald. Everything (ambiance, service, setting, music) was wonderful with one exception. They offered a gluten-free menu (which was great), but the selection of gluten-free food was limited and the quantity given was disappointing. It would have been very nice if they had a broader selection of foods, and more of it.
It was amazing. Worth every penny you spend there. Food was great and the servers were awesome.
My Mom lives it!
This was my first time attending the Nutcracker Tea. I would definitely return next year. The whole experience was one of pampering. From start of process to end, staff was helpful with allergies, knowledgable of selections, curteous and attentive. Our server was Jacob, and he made sure we had everything we needed and made the experience very enjoyable for us. Selection of foods was appropriate for the season. Portion size was perfect for High Tea. The white chocolate cranberry scones were amazing! The atmosphere was festive, yet quiet enough for conversation. This adventure was one of those that makes the holiday season special when shared with friends. I would highly recommend it.
I booked this table for the nutcracker tea and tour as a Christmas gift for my fiance's aunt. We were very excited to try the tasty treats and tour the beautiful hotel. Unfortunately, my fiance became ill and was highly contagious and was unable to make the reservation with us. The cancellation/change policy is not last minute friendly, as we were charged half the cost of the missing guest. I understand the policy protects the hotel from large group cancellations, but this was a unforeseen illness and I would suspect they would not want a contagious patron near other guests.
However, the service we received was impeccable. Our waiter was very informative and attended to our every need. He was always prompt to visit our table, an never disturbed us.
The food was simply divine! Each course was fresh and looked beautiful. There are a variety of teas to chose from, some an added cost.
I would highly suggest the high tea that is served at this establishment! In the summer time, the patio is open to guests to see Edmonton's gorgeous views.
We did the high tea and tour. We arrived and were seated for the preset time of 12:30. Our server was very pleasant but had too many tables and ours was one of the last to be served. Our final tray of finger sandwiches and deserts arrived only a half hour before the start of of the tour which was much too rushed to enjoy the food, pay our bill and be ready for the tour.
Customer service excellent and food is awesome 👏 Cheers 🍷
Was there for my 65 birthday, was a dream of mine to stay at the Macdonald, Dew was our waiter and made my evening so special, it was an occasion I will always remember! The staff at the hotel are OUTSTANDING!!
Absolutely outstanding service and meals. The Harvest Room staff took time to take Christmas photos and provide celebratory champagne and cake, free of charge, for our small retirement celebration.
The scones and pastrami sandwiches were delicious. I didn’t like the desserts (especially the Christmas pudding) as much.
We had a lovely time at the Nutcracker Tea and Tour. This was our first festive themed tea at the Fairmont MacDonald, and the flavours did not disappoint! We were also gifted with an extra dessert to celebrate the upcoming arrival of our baby, thank you Fairmont!
I had dinner with my daughter, she loved her meal and so did I. Great service and great food. Highly recommend.
We were hoping there would have been more selections for starters and desserts for people who have diet restrictions such as gluten and dairy. It would have been nice to have bread (gluten and dairy free) with my spouse and a starter and dessert that would be more than a salad or fruit.
Otherwise the service was excellent and the main entre was superb.
I attended with 2 friends and we enjoyed the Nutcracker Tea and Tour very much. The food, ambience and service at the Hotel Macdonald were excellent. This is the 2nd Tea we have attended and it will continue to be our Christmas tradition for many years to come.
The Harvest Room Board (you can choose 3 meat or seafood) is simply amazing.
The buffet was amazing and so was the service. We can’t wait until next Christmas!
We had a lovely afternoon tea - great food, such friendly service, and a beautiful atmosphere.
I took my wife out to this restaurant for a special birthday, and we enjoyed our meal and the overall ambiance of the location. The place was packed with large groups of people on long tables who were celebrating various events, so the overall noise level was quite high: this was not a quiet, intimate experience. Nevertheless, our server was very good and the food was excellent. The restaurant acknowledged my wife's birthday by surprising her with a little cake/candle and champagne in a flute glass - a very nice touch. If you want a quiet, intimate experience, this restaurant would not be a first choice, however, we liked our time here and would recommend it for a consistent, high-quality food and service.
Had a great experience, value for money, made the special occasion memorable, friendly staff, acknowledging their customers well. We would definitely return.
The food was good but the service was terrible for such a nice place. The waiter talked so fast and we felt rushed to get out of ther. The waiter we had took my girlfriends wine glass on her birthday and didn’t even offer her more and just assumed she was done for the night when she wanted more. I ate most of my steak with a butter knife before having to ask for steak knife. There was also a guy being super load and obnoxious and no one seemed to care that worked there. Not happy with the service at all and very unprofessional.
Wonderful food and service. A beautiful place for date night.
Had a great dinner and our server was also great. We will return soon !
I thought I was booking high tea. Showed up for my 1pm reso and was told that there was no high tea AND the restaurant (Lunch Buffet) actually closes at 1pm. I confirmed my booking and found the email to show to the gentleman. He sat us but told us that the kitchen would take our order immediately for the lunch buffet. and that we would have to close our bill out early as the server will be off soon. I think we were told 3 times that the rest. was closed but they would leave the buffet on for us.
This was a casual friendly meeting that has been booked for a long time with old work colleagues. It was a very unfortunate incident and certainly not what I expect at the Fairmont. Our first couple of minutes of our visit was spent looking at a menu with a server somewhat hovering to take our order. It was not a relaxed stress free environment that we were expecting especially with booking at the Fairmont. The last issue is if the lunch lunch ends at 1pm why would you make a reservation for 1pm. We did enjoy having the rest. to ourselves as it was quiet but really...this was an unfortunate experience. Thank goodness I was not celebrating a very special occasion or having a business meeting.
The ambiance of the restaurant is consistently good. However my wife’s vegetables were ice cold and when we brought it up to the attention of our waiter, nothing was done. As well, even though our waiter did a good job, there were several other servers who dropped plates, trays and cutlery. This is not what we would expect from a 5 star hotel, especially since we were celebrating a special occasion. Overall... disappointing!
Ivan was wonderful! Very helpful and attentive. Also, surprised with a lovely birthday treat.
Our compliments to the chef and all staff.
We had tea on Sunday afternoon.
Our server was wonderful--attentive, careful, informative, congenial.
We were somewhat surprised that at the "Royal Tea," we had to save our silverware from one course to the next. "We were not amused"--or maybe we were since it was so incongruous.
Many of the mini desserts were delicious, but the blueberry lavender trifle had so much lavender that it seemed almost soapy. We loved the complex tastes and textures of the dark chocolate and pistachio tart. The cucumber sandwiches had been made too early--the bread was old (a combination of soggy and dry if you can imagine that) and the cucumbers were past their prime. It was lovely to have warm scones, but after indulging repeatedly in Cornish/Devon cream teas a few months ago, we thought there should have been twice the amount of cream and preserves.
Clearly, it was a mixed bag for us; however, the pluses outweighed the minuses and we had a lovely time.
