We had the Combination C with tempura and sesame chicken and combination C with tonkatsu. Fortunately they weren't crazy busy so the noise level was good.More infoMiyo's Restaurant and Izakaya Bar$$$$• Japanese• Hilo•4.5
- JJoannajvipOrange County •238 reviews5.0Dined on Jan 2, 2023Celebrated the first day of 2023 with a special Prix fix dinner. Our server (Harold) I believe was his name. He was amazing. He was friendly, made recommendations, and was attentive and thoughtful. The appetizers were delicious especially the venison meatballs. The special kanpachi fish was full of flavor and cooked perfectly. The homemade honey wheat bread was amazing. If you want a perfectly cooked meal served in a warm and vibrant environment I highly recommend Merrimans.More infoMerriman's – Waimea – Big Island$$$$• Hawaii Regional Cuisine• Kamuela•4.8
- MPMarkPvipMinneapolis - St. Paul •20 reviews5.0Dined on Jan 2, 2023The Guacamole appetizer was a pleasant surprise. Very tasty and a good portion. I had the fish tacos. Fish was Mahi Mahi. A bit dry and could have used more sauce. The shells were soft, but fell apart. My wife had the Caesar’s salad. Nothing special. She got the Ginger Miso dressing which was excellent. Mahi Mahi was added, but nothing to rave about. Atmosphere and service were great. I would recommend it, but maybe get a different fish than the Mahi Mahi. Not much flavor to it.More infoPapa Kona Restaurant & Bar$$$$• American• Kailua-Kona•4.5

Discover Volcano
Food on the Big Island of Hawaii reflects the island's long culinary history. While it's true that kalua pig and whole fish dominate most menus in Volcano, it's also worth looking for restaurants that serve modern Hawaiian food trends like poke bowls, a dish that's essentially a deconstructed version of sushi. Every restaurant on the Big Island puts their own spin on it, but common ingredients include noodles, spicy garlic salmon and tofu with soy sauce. You won't just find tasty dishes in restaurants; Volcano plays host to plenty of food trucks and plate-lunch diners that keep their ingredients local. The dramatic backdrop of fiery lava flows and black-sand beaches provides an accent to the culinary fusions happening here.
