We went for a family dinner for a graduation celebration. The service was impeccable and servers were very attentive. The food was delicious and high quality and the atmosphere was cozy. The wine list was extensive and the cocktails we ordered were unique and well-crafted. One thing to consider is having one vegetarian dish option - while we eat fish, we prefer to eat completely vegetarian. That being said the fish dishes were great!
Hawksworth is trying very hard to be on trend and reach the pinnacles of two star dining. It’s in a posh hotel with a stellar wine list and prices to match. The cooking when it succeeds is excellent using accomplished creative and classical techniques. This was exemplified by four of the dishes on the Tasting Menu, the best being the bison, pheasant and salmon dishes. The latter served ala brochette impaled on a pine skewer. The salmon tasted of salmon enhanced with notes of pine, smokiness and maple. The bison fillet medallions seared and served with a red fruit sauce, a classic riff on how to treat venison. The pheasant poached to perfection with the skin crisped. The pre-desert involved sweetened chaga, a native bracket mushroom - don’t be alarmed - it was both interesting and toothsome. That’s where the good news ends. It is spot prawn (shrimp to our American cousins) season - a delicious and delicate sweet delight native to these here parts. So what did the chef do to this delicious creature? Serve it with citronella and jellied cubes of what tasted like raw white wine vinegar of course! The poor prawn died in vein - it was impossible to taste its sweet flesh with a mouth coated in what tasted like acidic bug repellent. I’m afraid the desert course, simply titled Rhubarb, was also a disaster. No Rhubarb could be tasted and the only taste sensation was that of cloying sugar coming from the Italian meringue and the syrup the rhubarb had been poached in.
Interesting wine by the glass can accompany the Tasting Menu - a delight being the sake with the salmon. The prawn horror had a fitting friend in a filthy bio style orange wine.
All in all a curate’s egg - good and bad in parts. But with a price tag topping 600 Canadian dollars you really do expect at least two star excellence and I’m afraid Hawksworth does not deliver on this.
Hawksworth certainly lives up to it’s great reputation. Service was friendly and helpful and the food was outstanding without being over-pretentious. We were visiting Vancouver and this meal was a highlight among several very delicious meals
Service was amazing, food was creative. Very accommodating of gluten free guest. A little fussy, but otherwise, wow, the service.
Love the poached pheasant as a starter. The foie gras parfait looked fabulous too, even tho I didn’t try it. The strip loin was fine, lamb looked better. For dessert, spring pea was definitely the least sweet one and indeed a refreshing choice of matcha and lime flavours.
We’ve been here several times and honestly it was a bad experience each time. On previous occasions the service staff were too pretentious and rude. This would in tern set the tone for the evening and even if the dishes were superb, the staff’s attitude would unfortunately dim the light on the food
This time was a totally different experience. With many amazing restaurants in Vancouver of the same caliber and price point, we opted not to
Pick or recommended hawksworth for several years. But this time it was amazing! The staff were friendly the food amazing the evening unforgettable. This time I would for sure recommend hawksworth
The service, as always, was outstanding. The asparagus salad was great. I split the ribeye for two with one of my dining companions. While the accompaniments were good, the steak itself was rather bland.
Amazing restaurant, cuisine and staff.....absolutely love this place!!!
Outstanding service, excellent creative wine list, innovative cooking using top quality produce and situated in a landmark building.
Well worth the journey from the otherside of the world.
A Vancouver gem.
The food and service were impeccable. I was with a group of 7 and I’m always so impressed at the coordination of the service. My second time there and we will definitely return.
Couldn't believe how small the portions were considering entrees were $50+. Ordered the lobster tail and the piece of lobster was probably 3oz. The food was very good, but left me wanting more. Needless to say we went and got pizza a few hours later.
It was our 25th wedding anniversary! Everyone wished us well, it was very authentic and much appreciated.
Food was a little below what we are used to maybe just a bad night but we were camped a free desert which was outstanding
This was my second trip to Hawksworth for dinner. I absolutely loved it the first time, however this recent trip disappointed. The Chardonnay options were not tasty, the menu was limited, and the food lacked seasoning. It leaves me wondering what has happened in the kitchen since my last visit?
Service could of been better.
very good food, great service, very vibrant place, interesting atmosphere
We were disappointed by our experience overall. I indicated when making the reservation that it was for my husband’s birthday but this wasn’t acknowledged at all. The staff (except the sommelier) lacked a genuine warmth. Our waiter never even told us his name. We’ve dined at many Michelin star restaurants and we’re expecting a similar experience but it came up short.
Well reviewed as a top restaurant in Vancouver. Both our fish dishes were well prepared, tasty and presented. The recommended wine(s) paired very well, and the staff even went out of their way to try to find us a bottle in the city. Too bad we were without a car.
Honestly it felt like a hotel restaurant. Over priced. When you have to drop $25 on a eggs benny and have to pay for all sides like toast, bacon etc. Just feels like robbery when the food isn't really elevated or a unique experience. Finally the bloody ceaser isn't a ceaser and has 0 kick to the taste and is muddled by cucumber and 0 heat.
Best food and service I’ve ever had! Looking forward to having our wedding there!
We were celebrating an anniversary and the staff made every effort to make it feel like a special occasion. Excellent service and food. Will definitely go again.
Fantastic food with courteous and knowledgeable servers. Superb wine choices too!
Amazing personalized service, with impressive vegetarian and pescatarian options.
Very accommodating to our last minute party size adjustment. Great service. Top notch. Good food, great wine (but significant markup). Would definitely come back.
Amazing experience , the wine list was extensive and well thought. Best Sabil Fish I've ever had.
Excellent food and service for high end dining. Unique and different menu with local ingredients. Great place for food you would never prepare yourself. Presentation very nice.
Simply amazing in every detail
Incredible service, great tasting menu, beautiful ambience- definitely an adventure for the palate. The perfect date night vibe when visiting from Victoria.
Have eaten over the last year or so here for brunch, lunch and dinner. Always excellent food, service and ambience. Consistently the best in Vancouver.
Hawksworth Restaurant is a famous award winning restaurant that I want to try as a foodie. Ambience and decor are upscale, service is attentive and courteous. Our serve Alex is great and gives us good suggestions on menu to where to go nearby after the brunch as a tourist. Food is fresh, delicious and in good value as a fine dining restaurant. Highly recommended as a memorable culinary experience in Vancouver!
The burger was very bland
Second time there
First time was so much better in every way
Unique menu. Exquisite food. Outstanding wine selection
Tuesday noon, for lunch: the room was bright and tasteful, and nearly empty (a pleasant surprise in busy downtown). We generally enjoyed our experience - though, for the price, we did have a few reservations. Our server was very professional, but (whether this is restaurant policy or by his own omission) made no mention of a charge for the water he offered and then replaced a second time, unasked for and left untouched as it was at the end of our meal. A handy $6 added to the bill, unawares (not a fortune, but a rather distasteful surprise - especially for still water, seemingly from the tap as it is in their own refillable bottles.) We avoided a similar charge for bread as I had noticed its price on the menu before it was offered, again without any suggestion of it being anything but complimentary. I'm sure some would argue that if you have to ask the price, you have no place dining in a place like this; my point is only that the offers made by our server at no time suggested an associated cost for them. Perhaps that could be remedied by a quick change in the language used ('would you like to *order* some bread' as opposed to 'would you like some bread' would be a simple solution. But there is really no excuse for charging $3 for tap water - that is just gauging for gauging sake. Vancouver is not Europe.) The menu read well and there were many intriguing choices available for the omnivorous. Vegetarian options were very limited, though they can accommodate if you call ahead to let them know. (The brunch menu had more options, and they have just started a new vegan tasting menu for dinner that looks incredible.) Food was good, but not really exceptional; the highlight being the herb gnocchi dish that showed real creativity and the elevated technique which one might expect at this price point. The 'zero-proof' mocktails on the lunch menu were also fantastic. Overall, they seemed to be coasting on their reputation - which they did not live up to in our experience.
Great food authentic
Our favorite place in Vancouver. Delicious food, great wine and the staff makes you feel like you're the only one in the room. Wonderful experience. Highly recommend.
Very enjoyable Tasting Menu and wine pairings. We will be back :-)
I went here for brunch and unfortunately the food was really subpar. Really disappointed as have been looking forward to this place for a while and likely wouldn’t go back.
