My husband and I don't typically write reviews, however, our recent experience at Headwaters exceeded our expectations so much so that I wanted to take a few moments to praise the restaurant. We visited Millcroft Inn many years ago and recall Headwater's food being 'ok', but nothing to write home about. We were expecting a similar experience, and upon arrival to check-in at the Inn, we decided to have lunch at the restaurant and were blown away by the high quality level of the food and the beautiful presentation. This visit was after a variety of meals earlier in the week while visiting the Niagara Region and eating at other great restaurants. Our meals at Headwater were the highlight of our entire week. Lunch was the Lamb and Fish & Chips (which was not what it sounds like...the chef's version is a beautiful spin). Dinner was mushroom soup, nicoise salad (tuna), scallops and tenderloin, peach cobbler and the most beautiful panna cotta display I've ever seen. The Chef obviously takes great pride in their art and it was appreciated by us both. We will be back!

The menu was small but the food was fantastic. I’m glad I was able to order something outside of my comfort zone.

Food was outstanding. Service was lacking. Place was empty but the hostess gave her attention to room service calls instead of seating the few parties in line for a table. Not acceptable.
And what happened to their groundskeeper? Patio is need of landscaping badly.

Excellent food and our server (Frank I believe) was helpful. Found it a bit strange that a restaurant with a reputation like Headwaters didn't have bitters on hand at the bar as that is typically a staple in any bar.

Wasn't asked if we wanted another drink during dinner, other than a refill on the water.

Overall I would suggest this place to others for the entrees and desserts alone though.

My wife and I enjoyed the dinner stay package and I have to say we were we were both blown away by the property and amazing amenities. Headwaters restaurant is beautiful and serves amazing food which pairs well with the amazing staff. We were greeted by Carlos who was the one who looked after our reservation He also made sure all our requests were met. Megan was the one that was looking after us during our dinner. She was very knowledgeable with the food and beverage menus and was able to make our experience very enjoyable. I would highly recommend

The service is absolutely amazing! We had gone to celebrate a birthday and from the moment we walked in they wished the birthday boy a happy birthday, special added touch to the dessert with a candle and birthday message. Love all the extra unexpected touches. Thank you! The food is as amazing as the service. Very tasty, favourable and cooked to your liking. Portions are also very large. Location and scenery are breathtaking. Thank you for making it an extra special day for the birthday boy!!

Our experience at Headwaters Restaurant was exceptional. We were treated to one of the best tables overlooking the waterfall, and our server Carrie Anne was prompt, kind and explained our menu options. The food was incredible and exceeded our expectations, but the thing that stood out the most for us was the kindness of the staff. When my mother had a mild medical emergency, Angela assisted us with reassurance and compassion. I was very impressed by the experience and will definitely be back in the future! Thank you so much for making my mother's birthday lunch a happy and stress-free experience!

I made a reservation online for my girl friends and I for tea. The service from the manager was horrendous and we ended up leaving before we even ordered. My friend and I arrived and immediately were asked are the other two parking? Wondering where they were like they were in a rush to serve us. Once everyone arrived we looked at the tea menu and asked the manager if there was a lunch option for my two friends one being gluten and couldn’t have the tea sandwiches and wanted a salad and the other who had allergies to fish and could not eat the salmon sandwich and if she could replace that for another meat sandwich. The blonde manager was extremely rude and pushy saying that they couldn’t accommodate those allergies and we pre booked tea and did not write any of these allergies when we made reservations online. I told her I have never booked online before and didn’t know I could not tell them food allergies on site, that I have not been here before. Anyways, they put pressure on us saying they already prepared the meal and they could make a salad for gluten free person and they didn’t have any other meat sandwich and would give another cucumber sandwich. We ended up leaving just from the attitude she gave us. Don’t think I would ever go back. Sad because I hear the scones are good.

The food here is very fine - beautifully prepared and presented using the freshest ingredients. The tomato and eggplant soup was delicious, as was the Cornish hen and omelette. I really appreciate that Headwaters often has an omelette on the lunch menu. A properly prepared omelette is not a simple dish, and this one had an interesting mix of mushrooms and cheese - it was delicious.

The only criticism we could make is that the background music this time was what we regard as whiny, depressing folk-type music. Someone's taste perhaps, but not ours. Mercifully it wasn't too loud.

We were left standing at the coat check for ten minutes without being greeted or even noticed and when we rang the bell we were told to hold on a minute. Not a great start. Since we were twenty minutes early we thought we could sit at the bar but although handed a menu we were again left sitting there for ten minutes with no one even asking us if we wanted a drink.

We were shown to our table. Nice enough (the bones of the mill are amazing) but the decor is tired and oddly fussy. Terrible carpet, weird chairs, bad art on the walls.

Our wait staff was attentive and polite but humourless and anxious.

The complimentary amuse-bouche was a riot of competing flavours and textures that cut the roof of my mouth and finally amounted to just a strong flavour of parsnip. A failed and over-fussed experiment. The scallop appetizer was excellent. The other appetizer was all wrong and again, way over-thought. A weird glue-y foam base was perhaps cream cheese with the flavour removed? Too many things going on.

For the main we both had the beef, which was good but not medium rare. Over-cooked. The price was $200 for two with NO WINE OR ALCOHOL. For that price the food, ambience and service ought to be exceptional. It was not. The woman at the front of house was extremely anxious and stressed and totally distracted. The first person one encounters at a place like this sets the tone for the evening. I will absolutely not recommend this restaurant, even though I have been going to the Millcroft for thirty years.

The wait staff is top, they are very considerate to your needs. The wait staff is very knowledgeable of the food that they are serving, that is very good for people with food allergies. Ambience is always 100 percent. My husband and I will be returning to Headwaters and highly recommend if you like good food.

Long dark hair in Risotto, tried to pull it out but it was so imbedded in the rice, it wouldn't budge. Showed waitress, they brought a new one, I barely ate any as was so turned off. Didn't take it home either. Expected it to be taken off bill, but they just discounted the dish by a few dollars. Guess the going rate in finding long hair in your food in an expensive restaurant is about $12.00 off the $150 cheque. Disappointed ☹️.
