Our collection of cottages is nestled on the pretty shore of Rice Lake. It is managed by a fifth generation of Elmhirst family and continues to offer the very best of the Kawarthas — much of it grown here, raised here or sourced from our very own 240-acre property.

A little bit disappointing. Our server was great, very personable, the view was fantastic, but the food was a little lacking based on expectations and price point. Both steaks (ribeye and filet) were overcooked for what we ordered. Still flavourful, but overcooked. We didn't send back as we didn't want to waste food and wait for another entree to be prepared. Spinach and artichoke appetizer was excellent though. Will give another try at some point as it may just have been an off night for the kitchen.

The liver and onions and mashed was perfect. The filet was cooked to perfection. That’s where it ended with this meal. The mashed were very lumpy (couldn’t figure that one out)! And the crème brûlée had to be sent back and the replacement was only passable. The “crackling “ on top was more like a semi hard skin, so a big disappointment Service was exceptional so kudos to the staff. Have rated this a 4 out of 5 as the liver dinner was perfection.

We have frequented Elmhirst's restaurants a number of times and they are above and beyond each time. Our server Kim at the Hearthside was excellent - very engaging and professional and we really enjoyed her energy. Saturday's roast beef dinner can't be missed and our table also enjoyed the Pasta Bolognese and the Vegetable Curry. Everything is beautifully prepared and served fresh - Farm-to-Table goodness just as advertised. Absolutely a 5+ Star experience.

Dining at Elmhirst's Hearthside Dining Room is always a joy. The staff are friendly and very accommodating and the food is always delicious. The views from your dining table overlooking Rice Lake are spectacular. Love this place. We will be back.

We had a lovely table overlooking Rice Lake and the service was excellent!! The food choices were very good and our meal was amazing. I don't remember the last time we received such superb service 👍

I will definitely return and tell others to visit as well. It was so lovely to spend a hot summer day looking out at Rice Lake while enjoying our lunch. All our menu selections were delicious. I would just say that the Caesar Salad entree seemed small. Our server was very pleasant and attentive. I will write a good review on Trip Advisor as well.

We had a wonderful anniversary dinner! Michele was friendly, helpful and attentive. The food was delicious! The view was fantastic. And even with a wedding next door the noise level was totally fine! Highly highly recommend!!!! Claire

The service provided by Emma was outstanding. The food was great. The portions were very large so we brought home the left over food and enjoyed it the next day. The view over the lake was spectacular. We were very happy customers. Thanks for a great evening.

Went for Sunday brunch for Mother's Day. Buffett no longer offered. Hollandaise sauce was very thin and flavorless. Steak and eggs were not enjoyed as steak had little flavor, overcooked and eggs were hard fried, not over easy. Overall, was ok in a nice setting but not outstanding.

Restaurant was beautiful, with linens and ambience. The service was excellent, even though our server, Avery, was new to the job, but was attentive to our needs on a timely basis. Overall was a very pleasant evening.

It was a one rib dinner, a specialty dish, but it was full of grizzle and fat, definitely not edible. Duck carbonara was mainly pasta with 3 or 4 very very small pieces of duck again not worth the money. 3 of the 4 diners had a horrible, but expensive dinner. Such a disappointment since we thoroughly enjoyed our experience last year. Waitress was lovely

We did have a lovely time. The place is lovely and so was the service. The meal not as much. The started I think was called cinnamon brioche. It was mini cinnamon buns with icing on. I just found that very odd. It was more like dessert. The shared app was good but there was barely a tablespoon of baba ghanoush to dip everything in. The pasta serving was very small. I feel the meal would probably be better on regular nights and would recommend to a friend.

Having eaten at Elmhirsts several times over many years I was very disappointed! The Covid 19 excuse will be used as a reason for many of the elements of a great dining experience just not being there. Lack of table coverings, pepper shakers, the use of prepackaged condiments just seemed tacky and uncaring. If we had wanted a drive thru experience we would have gone somewhere more appropriate. The fine dining experience was not there! The beef sandwich was 50% fat . The “ au jus “ was gravy (possibly from a commercial mix). A good chef would not let these items leave the kitchen, let alone serve them to guests. The staff said all the appropriate words, but those words were memorized and lacked any sense of real meaning or actually caring for the guest. The ambiance was old, musty, and in need of a sprucing up. I will not be returning to Elmhirts!!!!! I

The ambience was lovely and the server very helpful and attentive. There was some noise from a wedding party, but it wasn't bothersome. The food however was a very big disappointment. I asked that my liver be cooked MEDIUM RARE. I sent back the first plate as the liver was so overcooked that it was dry. The server assured me she would tell the kitchen how I asked that it be cooked, but when the second plate arrived, it was very little better, and still far from medium rare. The caesar salad was very overdressed so that it was quite soggy. The onions that were advertised on the menu as "crispy" were the usual limp fried onions. I have often recommended this restaurant to people who are coming from a distance, but I will have to tell them that although it is lovely, it is not a place to eat. I have a friend from northern Ontario coming next week and she had indicated that she would like to have dinner there, as we have had some very good meals there in the past. I will tell her that it no longer is a dining room I l can recommend and that we will have to go elsewhere. Linda Seppanen
