Our wine list features the best that Niagara has to offer including a wonderful selection of ice wines to accompany that special dessert. During the warmer months, a candle lit dinner can be enjoyed on the side verandah which overlooks the gardens as well as North America's oldest golf course.
After dinner, guests are welcome to enjoy a glass of port or ice wine or perhaps a specialty coffee in the adjoining lounge or sit on the verandah to enjoy the evening sky.
The dining room is open seven days a week.

We had a nice lunch. Food took a while but waitress has advised us ahead about the wait which was helpful. I’d be a little concerned for future given the wait time. Ended up being 2 hours for lunch.
Excellent service, great food, quaint atmosphere all for a good price. Lots of local ingredients. Great date spot!
Hands-down, it's the best place in town for a good meal in a romantic setting. Wait staff were timely and attentive. Good wine list, and well made cocktails. We had the Filet Mignon with prawns which was well prepared. Only complaint was that they did not offer ceasar salad (my fovorite) but their house salad was tasty.
Wonderful food and ambiance as well as service and decor. Great for dinner.
Dinner and Service was Great...Where we were seated was not! Thought I booked well enough in advance to get in house table rather than the veranda...Fruit Flies were terrible especially when spending that kind of money for Dinner!
A very enjoyable evening, professional staff, great food! The music on the patio was an unexpected treat!
My husband and I really enjoy this restaurant. The food was beyond excellent! Something different but delicious! Everything from our drinks to dessert was exceptional! The location is beautiful and elegant. Almost brought you back to a different time period. Our server was friendly and helpful.
We were at HOBNOB on a Thursday night, so not one of their busier nights. We were the 2nd table seated in our section. The other couple had ordered so were on their way. Drinks came in a timely manner and we ordered our appetizers and main course, that’s where things ground to a halt. Even though the restaurant was not busy another couple was seated almost on top of us. They were treated to complementary sparkling wine (birthday) and then ordered the tasting menu. Another couple came in and were seated nearby. Appetizers for both the other two tables appeared but we were still waiting for ours. I finally was able to get our waiter “Allan’s” attention and asked about the status of our order, given we were seated and order taken well in advance of other tables arriving. Much to my surprise, he said it was his fault as he prioritized the other two tables. The 2nd couple he said were on a wine and food tour and of course tasting menus always get priority due to # of courses. After a very long wait, our mains arrive. I had the halibut, which Allan recommended, and my husband had the tenderloin. My halibut was under cooked in the centre and the tenderloin was barely warm. No one dropped by to check on us, although the table with the tasting menu got plenty of attention. In the end, the halibut was removed from our bill and we were offered a complementary dessert, which is fine, but we would have preferred better service, properly cooked and hot food. So, unless you want to splurge for the tasting menu, be prepared to wait.
There wasn’t a bad thing about it. Excellent services, deliciously perfect tender tenderloin! Y compliments to the chef and to Jill our lovely server!
Fabulous fabulous tasting menu with outstanding service from Gillian
Friendly, efficient service and excellent food taste (especially the fois gras) and presentation!
Delicious food but a bit pricey for what you get. The ambiance was beautiful and the service was fantastic
Everything was great. Alan took good care of us!!
Great food, excellent presentation, lovely ambiance and contrary to past reviewer’s opinions the veranda was delightful!
It was our anniversary and they were so kind and accommodating it was a wonderful experience.
Nice restaurant but, in spite of having reserved a table, we could not eat in the nice dining room and we had a table in a Veranda (a corridor). Good food but a little bit expensive (210 CAD for 2 salad, a chicken plate and a lamb one, A bottle of wine (the less expensive thay have), no dessert.
The server was very attentive, knowledgeable and helpful. My tenderloin, while tender, was under cooked, and the very few vegetables on the plate were too hard (potato's skin was so hard it cut through my gums).
My husband lamb, on the other hand, was really good, and done as requested.
The deserts were as expected, but the bill was a bit too much! Good thing they serve hot bread buns and butter, and they keep replenishing the water, or i would have ended up going home hungry!
Food and service were fantastic. My husband and I both did the tasting menu with wine pairing. It was a brand new menu and very delicious. Our only setback was the ambiance, we were seated in the indoor veranda, which was freezing and nobody around us. It was very quiet, but we didn’t get to take in the true restaurant environment. Please double check your reservation and make sure it’s in the restaurant itself, no side verandas for a true experience.
I enjoyed the meal but I ordered it at 5:45 and despite mentioning that I was going to the theatre my table was served at 6:50 pm (65 minute wait) No apologies no explanation. We saw all the parties who came in after us served first. When we asked why, the waitress refused to give any explanation or acknowledge the lapse. We had to eat quickly when we had hoped to have a leisurely meal by booking a 5:30 table. This was very frustrating. I can only imagine that we were forgotten as our plates were not that complicated.
Hob Nob at the Charles is our favorite restaurant in Niagara on the Lake, and one of our favorites anywhere. We've been dining there on our summer vacation for several years. Servers are always excellent (Alan served us this time, and has in past years as well). They are friendly and attentive without being intrusive and are well versed on the intricacies of the interesting menu. A lovely feature is the "amuse bouche"--a little taste of something new to start the meal, this time a scrumptious barbecued tofu over pickled slaw of local vegetables. (I would gladly have had an entire entree of that!) This night my husband and I shared the pork belly/scallop appetizer; I had the halibut entree, and he had the tenderloin/prawn entree, followed by a lovely chocolate truffle dessert. All were thoughtfully prepared, beautifully presented, delicious. We also appreciate the pacing of the meal. To enjoy excellent food--from appetizer through dessert-- in lovely, peaceful surroundings (newly redecorated), it is wise to devote two hours. Dining at the Hob Nob's main dining room is a special experience that is best not rushed, one that we believe is well worth the cost.
Salmon was tasteless, meat was cold and undercooked twice. Definitely not worth the price.
This place came highly recommended, so it was doubly disappointing.
Have been to HOBNOB twice in the last two years. It couldn't be better. It is a lovely experience.
Will be back next year on my annual N-O-T-L trip.
Recommended to us by our server at another restaurant earlier. It was an excellent recommendation. Nicely appointed place, easy parking. Very attentive and friendly staff. Fine menu, more than adequate wine list, including some surprisingly good local wines. We opted for an old favorite entree, steak frites and they were perfect.
A lovely spot, worth a drive if necessary. We would certainly return.
Everything we had was absolutely delicious. If we were to come back to this area we would definitely return.
From start to finish, a beautiful meal. The waitress, Jill was charming and bright along with her servers. The hostess was fab and personable and the Chef was absolutely dedicated to making sure each plate from the tasting menu was divine. In a word - GO!!!
Every time I go to Niagara-on-the-lake, I go to this fantastic restaurant. Everything here is top-notch! The service is outstanding as the staff are friendly and helpful with suggestions. The food is amazing and I order the fois gras as a starter, the halibut as my entree, and some type of dessert. The wine list is amazing and my favorite is the Bespoke series from Meglomaniac. Truly a unqiue and wonderful dining experience in a beautiful setting.
We celebrated our anniversary and the staff made it extra special. The food was amazing and the setting was beautiful. Highly recommend!
The Hob Nob Restaurant is in the Charles Hotel on the main street but away from the hustle/bustle. It is a beautThiful building. Makes you think of large home or small inn in the deep south (US). There are several menus to choose from which determines where you are seated. The food is very good. Cocktails are unique and tasty. This restaurant has something for everyone. It is our second visit and we'll be back.
The staff were amazing. Service was prompt and the food was delicious.
Service was outstanding! Quality of food was excellent but we felt the cost was too high for the value received.
The food was incredibly good. Servers personable and attentive. Overall is was an excellent experience.
Loved the food and service! Ambiance was lovely and our server Ainsley was very attentive
Of the 5 restaurants we went to over our Canadian theatre vacation (both Stratford and Shaw), HOBNOB takes the prize! Not a single thing to complain about! The couple we were with were celebrating their anniversary and were treated with a glass of proseco! Will definitely return next year!
Beautiful spot, the food just wasn’t that good. The service was rushed. We decided that we had a “drive-by waiter.” A quick introduction, then things just were plunked on the table without stopping. I asked to taste a wine before ordering a glass and it seemed like quite an inconvenience. We all ordered the coq au vin and the chicken was over cooked and dry. Over rated.
Service was a bit slow for our preference. Thought we would never get our dinner!
We first sat in the patio area to hear music. Our drinks were served immediately, but we also ordered a hummus plate which took 45 minutes to be served. After our drinks and hummus we were seated in the dining room, where the service was just as slow. Bread plates were on the table, but no bread was served. The waitress was sweet, but again slow.
Traditional fine dining with an emphasis on local ingredients. Even the wine list is confined to local wines.
Relatives from out of town
We have dined at Hobnob a number of times. It was our 30th anniversary and my husband's 65th birthday. Unfortunately our waitress had very little knowledge of the wines saying " I haven't tried that one "etc. Apparently she has worked there for 4 years. Know they don't have a sommelier but a better knowledge of the wine menu is important. We did get a glass of sparkling wine. Water glasses weren't filled up when needed. Dessert should have been on the house as it was before for my birthday since we are repeat guests.
Would we go back for a special occcasions- probably not.
A lovely little restaurant with a short but outstanding menu. We enjoyed the French onion soup, and were glad we took the server, Alan’s advice and tried the scallop with pork belly. It was out of this world. The complimentary champagne/sparkling wine was a nice touch to start. The Hallibut was amazing. We enjoyed the ambience of this quiet little place. We will be back.
