I was surprised to see that none of the staff were wearing face masks. I imagine that most clients would prefer to see the restaurant taking covert 19 more seriously.
We went there on a Wednesday night for dinner. It is a nice restaurant right on the waters edge. The service was friendly. We had some Calamari for starters and then The Arctic Char and the rack of lamb. Both were very well cooked and presented. We had a nice bottle of Shiraz with dinner, that was of a good quality. We enjoyed our self and I can recommend the restaurant to anyone who likes good food and service. The only complaint i had is that the vegetables were not cooked. I know this new trend with all dente! Either cook them or serve them raw.

My girlfriends enjoyed their food (salad and cauliflower steak) but my meal (flat iron steak) was terrible. The entire plate was bland. No seasoning on the potatoes or broccoli and the steak was very under-seasoned. Even the chimichurri lacked much flavor. Also the broccoli and potatoes were very undercooked and even cold. I mentioned that my food was cold and the server immediately offered to warm it up. Unfortunately they didn't separate the meat so the plate came back warm with very well done meat. So bad it was comical.
We had booked the reservation several days ahead online and indicated it was my wife’s birthday. We waited for 20 minutes for our 6:30 booking. We were shown to a little table with two gym chairs sitting in the middle of the floor beside the piano. Servers were walking around us to get to the booths, no one was wearing a mask including the staff. The menu was very limited with one beef entree called “flat iron steak” no indication of the cut of meat or the size of the portion. We waited for 10 minutes, then got up and walked out.
I understand the restaurant business is facing tough times in the midst of an epidemic, however, this experience failed to live up to our expectations for a high end restaurant. The Hooded Merganser must up their game.
we went back to the restaurant to try what we thought was going to be an Asian inspired new menu as we had seen an article in the local paper that a new chef was hired and that was the plan...there was a new menu and apparently a new chef but it was not what we had expected.
Firstly the menu seemed very limited..secondly it unlike the old menu had no Asian dishes to speak of and though I know it isn't an Asian restaurant to take what was previously offered that I'm sure was popular and replace it with what is now on the menu seems like a step backward...
the food....we ordered a beet salad that had plenty of beets some goat cheese and a bit of shredded cabbage that was best described as boring...
I had the special that was billed as roasted pork with roast potatoes and seasonal veg.
what I got was a fatty porkchop ..with too many potatoes and very little veg.
I'd give it a 3 out of 10
my wife had halibut and prawns that she described as pretty good ..she didn't sound convincing..
I have no Idea how TripAdvisor could give this restaurant a top 10 worldwide rating for what we experienced...perhaps it was the ambience, the view or maybe the wine but it certainly couldn't have been the food...
Had made reservations through Open Table requesting a window table and stated it was a Birthday celebration. When we arrived we were shown to a table in the middle of the dining room so asked to be moved to a table at a window. The food was mediocre and don’t know why the reservation asked if it was for a special occasion as it was not acknowledged.
This once “special place” has been reduced to an overpriced undelivered experience that I am not interested in repeating.

If there is a better patio and setting in Penticton, I don't know of the place. Highly recommended!
Location is nice. Wine list good l wines. The ceviche was nice. Chicken had some gristle but was nice. Not as many covid precautions as other places we have stsyed
From the time we walked in we felt like we were pampered. Great service and great food. Everything was served in a timely fashion and our server Megan went above and beyond to make our anniversary dinner special. We highly recommend this place.

Another lovely dinner at the Hooded Merganser. We enjoyed a table on the patio. Salmon and Flat Iron steak were delicious. Disappointed that they were out of the lemon cheesecake. Service was a bit slow, our waiter was not very attentive. Overall a nice way to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary.
Highly recommended. I advise booking in advance so you can reserve a patio seating.

The prime rib was excellent, Wild Boar was fair (rather bland). Service stopped once we paid the bill.
Great view, but food not worth the money. There are better places to dine. I would go back for a drink just for the view, but go somewhere else to dine.
We had dinner Oct. 3, 2020 and "almost" everything was very good. My wife ordered the salmon from the main menu and said it was delicious but there was no sauce with it. The green beans and swiss chard were tough and rubbery, she couldn't eat them. The barley was also not cooked enough, very hard. We will think twice about returning as the meal didn't measure up to the price.
Food, drinks, and service were outstanding. Of course, the lake view provides great ambiance.

This was the best meal I have ever experienced in my entire life. The bread tasted like clouds of heaven, the pork belly and scallops are to die for. Don't even get me started on the lemonade it was just perfection in a glass. The rib eye main course special was unlike any piece of meat I have ever had and the cheesecake nearly had me in tears.
Food is always good... miss the Ahi tuna though but the feature bone in pork chop was really good.
View from our outdoor table was magnificent. Flat iron steak tender and delicious. Server very nice and helpful.
