Hooded Merganser at Penticton Lakeside Resort
View is stunning, service among the best. Great food at reasonable prices. Every trip up I make it a stop. Highly recommended
not enough GF options i.e. pizza crust, pasta
substandard spinach/artichoke dip i.e. needed wayyyyy more spinach and artichokes and the sauce was grainy suggesting the white sauce was not prepared correctly prior to adding cheese and veg
and ridiculous price for sangria. I can understand $9 for a glass of wine, but $7 to $8 for sangria would be reasonable.
I have eaten here many times and would always rate the full experience 10/10. This time seemed much different. We weren't read the specials but the table next to us was. Steak was over cooked (asked for medium rare, got medium). Not overly impressed with the sides (seasonal veggies were carrots and kale?) and fries were very old or had been sitting under the lamp for far too long. Just sort of blah by comparison to other times I had been there. Wine list was still great as usual and the baked brie appy was delicious as well.
Have dined here several times over the past six years, and the food and service has always been great.
Great atmosphere, lake view is excellent. Food was all delicious, We eat there because of the organic style menus. Service is always top notch. We have had both breakfast and dinner there. We have stayed in the hotel in both 2016 and 2017 and used the restaurant.
We were looking forward to dining at the Hooded Merganser as friends had given it a great review. Unfortunately our experience was not the same. The appetizers were good and served hot but the entrees when served were cold. When I mentioned this to our server, she did not seem concerned and did not offer to do anything about it. I understand that mistakes can happen but when you are paying $32 for a steak that has been served cold and the staff does not want to fix the mistake then I do not want return or recommend the restaurant.
A fantastic setting with balcony view of the lake. Spectacular. Afternoon sun can be pretty bright & hot, so bring your shades or sit inside.
Food was excellent, and paired well with local wines. Make a reservation so you don't miss out on this Penticton treasure.
Absolutely wonderful food, was sad to see they took the crab cakes off the menu as those were so delicious. Service was great and dining experience overall was amazing. We went back for breakfast in the morning and sat outside it was so incredible and beautiful food was excellent
We sat on the waterfront patio with another couple, for a very memorable sunset dinner. Our server was friendly , knowledgeable and efficient. We Shared the roasted garlic with Brie and pesto appy which was hot and savoury good. The special was duck breast with morel mushrooms and red wine Demi glaze, which was fabulous, as was my husbands very generous and perfectly cooked lamb rack. We washed Iit all down with some local red wines from their list of quality local selections, and indulged in a velvety and decadent chocolate ganache pâté for dessert. I look forward to our next visit!
Great view and architecture. The food was very tasty and the menu is creative. The service was fast and friendly. Nice experience overall, and I'll definitely return.
The only complaint I have is the dress code. The website states "business casual". To me that implies a level of dress and behavior. We dressed appropriately; however, many patrons and their children did not. I don't consider sweat shirts, sweat pants, ripped t-shirts, and runners as business casual. If you're going to publish a dress code then enforce it, otherwise some people will be disappointed with the environment.
Excellent Restaurant with great food, service and views!
We had a great meal and the best view
View was great. Food was good. Seating was good. Overall a good experience. Wait time for dinner was a bit long. Would come again.
Out server Katie was outstanding and the wine list is great!
We arrived at this restaurant in a rainstorm. Unusual for the Penticton area... we were greeted very pleasantly and brought to the table we had booked. Our waiter was very professional and knowledgeable on the menu. We chose to have the tuna, the halibut and the steak (three different people lol) as well as a peanut butter and jam sandwich for our 5year old son who is a picky eater (who thinks to have that on a kids menu, brilliant!!). All of our different dishes where delicious in there own ways, served with fresh vegetables. The wine list offered a lot of local wines and was affordable. And all this is without mentioning the view, you are almost dinning in the lake... We had a great meal and would highly recommend
Went here for a Sunday brunch with my husband. The food is very good and the view is amazing. I do wonder about the criteria in hiring as all staff are young thin girls but overall service is good. Kitchen was a bit slow that day but we got a heads up from the hostess which was appreciated.
A great breakfast. Few, staff and view were great.
we ate here for a s pecial occasion with 7 ladies. We had a blast. Great food and great service!
As always the food was great and service was great. Noise level of customers can get fairly loud and and can be a bit disruptive but also adds a little to the occasion depending on what your there for. Pricing is reasonable.
Great service! One if our group of 4 had a very sinewy New York steak and unfortunately left almost half if it behind. I am willing to bet that if he had spoken up, a new steak would have been presented. Overall, I love eating here and as we live here, the “Hood” is our go to restaurant
Great restaurant and view of lake is amazing. Food was a great but two dishes included items not noted on the menu which we would have asked to come without if we knew were included. Who puts edamame in won ton soup?
Server was just off her game at end of a Monday night. Missed our drinks for almost 15 minutes, didn't ask what I wanted on my baked potato, brought wrong vegetables on one order.
Great spot. View amazing. Food was tasty and decent portions and pricing is what u would expect. We would go back.
Super happy they have the beyond burger. Hoping they add more vegan options to their menu.
I made an online reservation for a table of 6 for 7:15 pm on Sat. June 16th several days before coming to dinner:
Name: Robert Hodgkinson
Confirmation #: 969191335
On the afternoon of June 16th I phoned the restaurant to amend the reservation saying that we just needed a table for 2. Your agent had no record of the above reservation and said the best he could do to get us in would be at 9:00 pm!? After some discussion, he said come at 7:15 pm and he would "squeeze us in"! This demonstrates that there is a disconnect between your online reservation system and the record that your in-person reservation person gets? Having said that, the food, service and atmosphere were great.
Nice view good customer service but it took LITERALLY an hour for the food to be served and also forgot to refill coffee! they should hire more people for breakfast!
My sister and I had the Bibimbap which boasts ultra rare beef. While the beef was tender, it was more on the medium-well side. As well, there was no kimchee to be seen. We both agreed it lacked flavour. The pizza our friend ordered was more like flatbread and was rather uninspiring. The service was excellent and the views are spectacular but don’t expect the food to be anything special.
We have been here many times before. Feel it has slipped. $40 for my husbands steak that tasted like briquettes. They don't even do prime rib anymore. That is why we went there. That use to be great. They don't even do mashed potatoes anymore. Now just a baked potato with a dollop of sour cream and a couple of green onions sprinkled. Might as well go to the Keg! At least you get bacon bits. They do it better. Cheesecake was good though. But how hard is that. They view you can't beat. Right on Okanagan Lake. Better leave this one for a couple of drinks and appies. Or a simple hamburger or sandwich lunch.
We could have managed the loudness, the not so great service but when the meals were not even average for the price we paid, there were 8 in our group. We talked about our experience days later and agreed we will not be coming back for awhile and we are all locals that dines out quite a lot. Too bad. Was a birthday celebration too :(
Great experience, nice view, mediocre food. The fresh vegetables were nice.
Everything was perfect except there was a huge party (40 plus) and it was very loud. Was too cold to sit on the deck where the noise would not be a problem.
Fabulous views and fantastic food! Service was terrific!
Restaurant good but parking ridiculous. Ticket spitters in parkade useless. Unsavoury characters hanging around ticket spitters. Very unsettling
Our favourite restaurant in Penticton... always look forward to having a meal here.
We enjoyed sitting outside on the lake with great views. The food was good but not exceptional
As always our luncheon at the Hooded Merganser was exceptional. The cajun salmon sandwich was a big hit with my guests, and of course the view was spectacular.
Though a little noisy for a "business meeting" luncheon, for an enjoyable meal it was great. Only complaint - at times the music is loud. There never seems to be a problem having it turned down.
A must to have lunch at when visiting Penticton.
We love the Hooded Merganser, excellent food as well as service. Carol is particularly an amazing and friendly server!
Lovely view and the food was delicious. The service was prompt and attentive.
Had to eat inside due to rain and wind. Outside would have been quieter. Very nice inside however open and noisy but very nice decor.
We had a voucher from the Lakeside Hotel as part of a package and on it were instructions to present it when ordering so I did and was reprimanded and told I should have presented it when paying. I didn’t like that and it seemed to affect the rest of the service like she was serving a couple of dumb dumbs.
GREAT WAIT STAFF!
server at dinner on Friday night was excellent! very up to date on Celiac requirements even so far to have looked up whether the after dinner mint sticks were gluten free.
sat am server, Emily, took the time to make a plate of gf toast & bring it on a separate plate as she had previously thought they didn’t have a dedicated toaster (but found out they did). I had therefore gotten tomato slices instead of toast with the omelette. and yes, she brought the tomato slices as well as the gf toast.
