   The writer was great as qas the location, but we found the ceasar salad and salmon was a bit salty and the haddock was over cooked. The most disturbing thing was finding out the restuant would close at 8pm for a private function so felt a bit rushed and then one of the waitresses came and removed the flowers from the table as we sat there. She could have waited until we left. But again our waiter Chris was fabulous.

   We have been to the Hooded Merganser twice in the past, and had excellent experiences both times. Something has drastically changed. This most recent experience was an anniversary dinner with just my fiancée and I (2 people), and we had reserved well in advance. Unfortunately, the service was terrible, the menu much more basic and the food (what we actually got) mediocre. There was a conference at the Lakeside Resort, so we understood that it may be busy, but just over half the restaurant was full when we arrived (6:30pm) and it continued to clear out. To begin, our server delivered water but couldn’t remember what was “sold out” from the menu. We ordered two of the “signature” cocktails only to be served the first drink 25 minutes later, after two rounds of water. We placed our order for appy, dinner and second drink at water round 3, but but didn’t receive the appy for a further 25 minutes (and no second drink). Our server barely acknowledged our presence. At an hour in, with no updates on our main courses, why our second order of drinks were taking SOOO long (2 bartenders were on, and again, half-full restaurant) or even a courtesy visit by our server, we decided to leave and went to the front to settle our bill. Our server didn’t even notice. Instead of a manager assisting us to simply settle the bill, we were made to wait while someone tracked down our server (another 5 minutes standing at the door). Our server then made a point, in front of us, to send the hostess to tell the chef to hold our main courses (at now well over 45 minutes since ordering?) and apologize to the bartenders (on our behalf??) because they had JUST finished our drinks. No apology to us, nothing offered for our terrible experience, but we settled the bill for our two drinks and one appetizer after an excruciating hour and a half. Bottom line, the worst dining experience we have ever had, especially because of the horrible service. Not going back anytime soon, if ever.

   I understand that Mother's Day is a busy day however 1hr to get a pre-made quiche and eggs benny is way too long. Plates were not even hot, stayed at the pass for about 10minutes (We were in front of it). Saw 2 tables leaving after waiting for food for more than 1hr. Yes there is a shortage of staff but this place has been in business long enough to know that if you don't have enough hands then open half the restaurant and treat costumers right.

    Our reservation was for 12noon. There was no coffee ... an Americano was substituted. Our beverage/food order was taken within @15min and 2 of the 3 were brought within a reasonable time. The 3rd came @30min later. 45min in Mom's Americano and my tea were long gone ... no service staff to be seen. I took Mom's cup and my tea pot to the bar for refill ... there was still no coffee and hot water was not readily available. @15min later Mom was served coffee in a paper cup ... yada yada ... We left at 1:45 I approached our server, asked to pay for our 3 bevi's (she declined to charge us), tipped her $5 and let her know we had to go. We were @3min away (well outside) when she came running to say our order was up and if we came back, we would receive a 50% discount. We kindly declined.

    Seared tuna was beautifully barely done, and instead of seasonal veggies and potatoes they gave me more asparagus. How does life get better? I guess by recommending a very tasty BC Pinot Noir.

    We will definitely be back, they had a pianist playing it was Friday night. Food was fantastic, prices slightly above average but I think worth it. Service was good. Overall experience left us wanting to come back not lacking anything but perhaps a little more could be done in the overall service experience.

    We have been to this restaurant 3 times and every time our dining experience has been amazing, from the hostess, our server, the beautiful view of the lake to the entire friendly staff, and of course the food. This time I had the baby back ribs and my wife had the Halibut both were absolutely wonderful. We highly recommend the Hooded Merganser.

    The food was good but overpriced for the amount especially the halibut dish. Our server was excellent and very kind. The noise level was very high so if you’re looking for an intimate dinner this is not the place. The view is beautiful of the lake and mountains no doubt about that.

    not their usual standards for the price you pay. overall it was ok but after we were seated there was some confusion as to wether we were had a server. At least 3 main menu items were not available including the one that we both went their for. Ordered a salad starter and it took a little longer than normal to arrive with our meal arriving before we finished salad. Had the salmon and it was listed in the menu as having a lemon butter "sauce". There was no sauce, just a lemon to squeeze on top. On the plus side my wife ordered the chicken and it had excellent flavor and was cooked perfectly. As well overall the servers were attentive and friendly. Just not quite there, but who is these days.

    The only reason it wasn’t all 5 stars ⭐️ is because we had to wait for over an hour for our food after placing our order. Apparently there was a large group that ordered ahead of us. But in the end, after we asked a couple of times, they made good by offering us a free salad while we were waiting. Waiter was great and the food was amazing!

    This was the second time we were there. First time was amazing. This time was fair. Our waiter wasn't very good at all. Never refilled our water glasses. Didn't ask us if the meal was okay after we had our plates. The steak was tough, baked potato was cold as were the vegetables. Waiter seemed to ignore our table. When we were finished our empty plates sat for quite some time and then when he came he picked up our plates and said who I should bring you some water. We said it's okay. He said just the bill then? Didn't ask us if we wanted to view the dessert menu or wanted tea or coffee. Not what I would have expected. We won't be back. The management needs to rethink this waiter. It's hurting business.     My girlfriend and I had an overall enjoyable experience for date night on Saturday evening. 4 out of 5 stars is my overall score. Certain things were done well while other things could have been improved on. I think there were only 2 servers for the whole restaurant, the service could have been improved. Our green beans were both quite raw still. Flavors and presentation were top notch though. I would definitely recommend The Hopded Mergabser and we will be back again!

    Tried and true we keep returning to the Hooded Merganser. From burgers to steak, seafood, pizza and pasta, there is something for everyone and it is all delicious. Be sure to try the nnovative cocktails and great beer on tap. All the staff are fabulous and work hard to ensure everything is perfect. We love bringing guests here for these very reasons.     Love this place for a special meal. Views of the lake are amazing always. We had an enjoyable & delicious meal. The only comment would be that the majority of the customers were middle-aged to senior that early evening and the background music playing was pretty loud rock music, which seemed inappropriate for the customer profile. Perhaps staff should 'read the room' a bit more when choosing the music? Overall though we had a great birthday supper and will return again and again.

    We were skeptical after reading some mediocre reviews on trip advisor--were we ever surprised. They have a new menu, the view is spectacular, the wait staff were prompt and helpful and most amazing was the food. While the prices are on par with most restaurants, the food was delicious. I had atlantic halibut in a beure blanc and my wife had seared ahi tuna. Both came with loaded baked potato and really nice veggies. Flavors were fantastic! Dessert was a creme brule with fresh berries-very nice. We were impressed.

    All tables have excellent views of the lake and hills. Seats by windows can be a bit chilly in the winter months so bring a sweater.
