It was Valentines Day, so I appreciate that everyone is going to be busy. Our server was nice and attentive. There was nothing really wrong with our experience, but the menu was very limited (not a valentines nod in sight), the food was just OK and the Wolf Blass Yellow Label wine was overpriced (but I expect that). For $200 for 2 people, I guess I was expecting something more than I got. It was our first and (as the server explained they were closing at the end of the month) will probably be our last experience at Horizons.
I'm so very sorry this restaurant is closing. It's definitely top of our list when choosing a nice place to gather.
I asked for a window side table but that didnt happened some drunk woman kept talking and laughing out loud - no way I’m recommending
I’m afraid I would not. View was really nice but for price other comparably priced restaurants have better food and the inside could use a lot of updating.
Great presentation dishes, foods are fresh. Ambiance just right, not to forget the view of Burnaby Mountain. Too bad that's going to close it door by the end of February, 2020.
Decor is modern yet cozy. Spectacular views. Service is prompt and attentive. Good food and drink selection. Great food. Favourite restaurant for my wife and I.
Sad that restaurant is closing after sp many years. The food was outstanding
The place is nice and comfortable. Foods are taste good and will recommend friends to have a try.
We were there Saturday and were given the best seat in the restaurant! Had a really nice time and the food was great! But we were very surprised and disappointed to hear from two different servers that Horizons will be closing the end of February!!? One said due to the price of propane & gas that is supplied, and the other one said due to the lower numbers of patrons! One thing I have noticed is the choices on the menu is very small, and it doesn't seem to have been changed or added onto for a long time! If the management and chefs made more of a point to change up the menu and add on more of a selection, the restaurant I'm sure would have done a lot better the last few years, and it wouldn't be closing!! Hopefully a new restaurant will be opening up there soon, with great menu!
This Burnaby institution failed to impress during Dine Out Vancouver. The ambiance and location was excellent, our waiter attentive to our needs, to a point. Unfortunately, the enjoyment stopped after our entree's arrived. My mothers steak appeared fine but one bite is all it took to find out the meat was spoiled. She was not sure what the problem was so I tried it, and it was off, way off. We let the waiter know and he did not seem to understand that my mother was not complaining due to a poor cook on the steak but that it was rancid..he offered to fire another one or make another choice on the menu. She chose a re-fire, but her appetite was ruined by the taste of spoiled meat. Once the re-fire appeared, my meal was done and I watched her pick at her meal, which she then had packaged up.
At no time did the waiter offer so much as apology or did the manager come by to check in.
On the way home, as I thought about it, I was not happy with the lack of response about this. I called the manager when I got home, thinking that the waiter just thought that my mom was complaining about the cook of the steak and had not reported it spoiled.
When I spoke to her, she said she was aware of the situation, but only said that there was no way it could have been bad, as they get deliveries of meat every day, I suggested that this may have been left out too long or was an old steak. I told her both my mom and I had upset stomachs, likely from the bad meat. She only said she would pass this on to the chef, but sounded like she didn't believe me. I'm wishing I made them try it!! Again, we didn't get so much as an apology for spoiling our meal. We won't be going back. Very disappointed in their lack of customer service, I have so many other Dine Out choices, this one is off my list.
Service was wonderful and did very well for it being dine out Vancouver weekend.
Would definitely go back to try the regular menu
My wife and I have come to Horizon's a few times now. The service and food always seem to improve with each visit. It's a wonderful place to eat after a walk around Burnaby Mountain Park.
The lobster bisque, duck breast, and creme brûlée was delicious. The staff was friendly and service was great even if the restaurant was packed.
Place and service OK. The flat iron steak is horrible, quality and taste are bad.
Excellent service, delicious food, and great ambiance in a comfortable, relatively small dining room with appropriate lighting. The duck breast, steak, and salmon were all perfect. Our cocktails were the only disappointment, as my old fashioned bore only a passing resemblance to what it should have been. The wine menu is also only okay, and could have more depth in both BC and international wines. Overall, I would recommend Horizons, and I return regularly.
Food was barely warm and salmon was over cooked. Salad was very good. Dessert acceptable. Very Smokey air irritated my eyes and throat ... remember this from a previous visit. Obviously, Horizon does not care to resolve the issue. Not happy at all.
Love that place for a number of reasons but find the service is always a bit uneven. It was a quiet night but took a long time for our drinks to arrive, ordered a side of Brussels sprouts with dinner but they never arrived. Found out that they were out of them after I enquired. By that time we were well through our meal...this has happened before with the same server. We will go back because the food is great and the view spectacular.
Great location and view, especially as we had a window table. The salmon was amazing. No pressure to eat and leave quickly, although it was a Tuesday evening.
We were at Horizons to celebrate my sister's birthday. The food was great, service excellent, and my sister was made to feel very special. The view is spectacular...highly recommend people bring visitors from out of town to experience the beauty of our city.
The quality of food was very disappointing, especially the steak. I wouldn’t recommend ordering that. The service was also quite poor, the server only came to our table a few times. We weren’t asked if we wanted a second drink, we weren’t asked how our food was until we were about 2 bites from being done, and we were rushed through every course of our meal. It was a disappointing experience.
Enjoyed our meal , duck and salmon featured on dine out special. Excellent waiter, very attentive and professional. Our water was filled continuously without having to ask. The fog coming in out allowed for lovely vistas. Recommended to my son and girlfriend and they went next evening with similiar happy dining experiencd
I like dining at the Horizon normally, However, probably because of the Dine out Vancouver event on Friday evening (Jan 24, 2020), the restaurant is 85% full. The food was not satisfactory, just like serving fast food. Salad was messy place on a small dish. The duck breast that I ordered, was salty and the sauce was watery. the side veg was potato wedge and bok choy, the Honey Vanilla Creme Brule was very very and actually too sweet that I cannot finish.
This was an amazing first dine-out experience and first visit to Horizons
Dine Out Vancouver
The service is good and staff is friendly but the quality of food is not good. Unfortunately this restaurants is dated and needs a re-invention. Won’t be going back unless there are big changes.
Celebrated birthday during Dine Out
salmon charred around the edges and too well done, short rib overcooked
The view is great. But the place inside needs to renovate a bit. Dining table and chairs are not neatly clean.
Dinner was generally disappointing, my Pacific Cioppino seemed to have more potatoes and veggies than seafood. Dinner was overpriced for the value.
Very good as always.
The restaurant and view are beautiful. The menu very limited and expensive but the food quality did not reflect the price. Service was very friendly!
The view is spectacular, the service was fantastic as well. We were there on Sunday December 22nd. I was surprised to learn that we had the last reservation of the evening at (7 pm. I found that really early for the holiday season regardless of being a Sunday. The staff made us feel totally comfortable and welcome despite us being the last table to leave at 9:15 pm.
Had a wonderful evening for my mom’s birthday! Our service was excellent and so was the food! Thank you for a wonderful evening!
If you want great views, this place is awesome! But don’t go in search to a culinary adventure. Food was ok... some better than others (maple salmon was fantastic, lobster bisque watery) but as a celebration for my elderly mom, it was great! And not loud!
Service poor, young inexperienced staff. No smiles, not come around to see if everything was alright. Food took 1 hour to come out from time we sat down!!!!!
Very overpriced for what we received.
We had a group of six ladies celebrating birthdays, four of us ordered the lobster bisque it came to the table barely lukewarm, the server apologized and brought us fresh hot lobster bisque, it was not your typical lobster bisque, it had quite a smokey flavour and there was no lobster in my bowl. Four of us ordered the New York steak and the steak was amazing , two order salmon with prawns and they were pleased. We enjoyed creme brulee and coconut panna cotta for dessert both were lovely. The service was average to good but we didn't remember it being so pricey. It helped to have entertainment coupons. We would probably go back to again, because we love the location and the view.
We were warned that the plates were hot, but they were not, and more importantly the food also was only luke warm. The menu indicated a baked potato with the steak, but it came as mashed potatoes. They were very tasty, but spread in an artful layer 1/4" thin over the entire plate, and therefore quite cool. Our table was in a very very dark corner. All a little disappointing at $36 a plate.
The weather did not cooperate, vis a vis "the view" (which is wonderful from this venue) but our meal and service was good. Quiet ambiance for a reunion even though the restaurant was quite full (Sunday brunch). Our server, regrettably I can't recall her name, was exceptional - truly engaging with the guests, knowledgeable on the menu and very attentive throughout our stay. (She indicated that she had only been working there for about 5 weeks but honestly, her capabilities in interacting & providing service were second to none - that which could be expected from a seasoned & tenured server... Kudos to her).
There were 4 tables full in the entire restaurant, 3 servers and we were constantly having to call someone over for water, coffee, to order, for our bill, for the credit card machine. The food was just ok.... I highly doubt I will go back or recommend to others.
Delicious food with a great view. Try and get up there on a clear night so you can see all the Vancouver lights below. Service was fantastic. Portions were medium, but very tastey. The atmosphere was very pleasant and not very noisy at all. Great for special occasions for sure. Highly reccomended.
