   I lament the closing of Horizons, which has been a favorite destination for my wife and me and many other Burnaby diners throughout its 34-year history. We enjoyed one last dinner there the evening before it closed and the place was packed, yet the staff still provided their usual excellent service. We said our goodbyes and that was that. I hope the location will reopen as a unique destination restaurant, not just a chain, sometime soon. That location deserves a special restaurant.

   Went here last night for a 70th birthday celebration. Made a reservation 3 weeks prior and requested a window seat to mark the special occasion. Of course this can’t be guaranteed but it wasn’t even mentioned when we arrived and we were seated as far away from the windows as humanly possible in this restaurant. If you have been here, you know that this is by the kitchen/washrooms. The server had no idea it was a birthday (in the notes or the request) so it definitely wasn’t communicated to him. The server was friendly and very knowledgeable. He was WAY too busy. His section was huge and he had no support from the bussers. We would have ordered more drinks but were not asked so we did not get the chance. Wine glasses were on the table upon arrival. Only one person had wine and yet the others were not cleared off. Along with that, appy and bread plates not cleared off the whole time (2.5 hours) and the water glasses never refilled. Also we were short one glass so two people had to share. Table maintenance 0/10. The food quality was good luckily as the server was way too busy to do a quality check. He asked us how it was when he did come to check on us. Overall, would go back possibly for the food, although it’s pricey, and the view (hopefully can be seated closer to actually enjoy it).

   Favorites: • Elk Carpaccio - melting like butter atop crispy waffle chips. • Chocolate Mousse Cake with Passionfruit Coulis - deliciously complementing flavours! • Beautiful view of Burnaby & Vancouver nightlight horizons • Continually good helpful service from all staff. • Gave us window seat as soon as possible, as we had requested when booking. • Such a jewel on top of Burnaby Mountain, a great asset of the community, and a dining destination for visitors from all over Greater Vancouver and the world alike! We will miss you greatly! Having a craving for “Cioppino while drinking in the mesmerizing scenery of the Vancouver Nightlight horizon”... unfortunately Horizons is all booked up! Some experiences are irreplaceable!

    My best friend and I came here on Sunday at 5:00 and it was the best meal I have had here and I have been here many times. I had the duck and boy what flavor it had. My girlfriend had the steak and wanted it rare, and rare it came. She was very impressed with her steak as I was with my duck. We shared the Ceviche to start and we could not have picked a better starter as we were looking at the seafood tower as well. We had the best of both worlds and the sun peaked out of the sky through the rain and clouds as we were enjoying our time and talk.

    Nice evening out. Sorry to see Horizon go. Wish the City of Burnaby and the ownership of Horizon could have come to an agreement about the lease. A great Burnaby institution will be lost.

    Always love coming to this restaurant for a nice dinner and I am very sad to see it close after so many years. I do wish they enforced somewhat of a dress code here because too many people arrive in very casual wear (hoodies, leggings, runners) for what I consider a classy and more upscale venue than the keg or any other chain restaurant. Either way, delicious food and great service

    We are devastated to hear Horizons is closing for good shortly. Hopefully there will be another dining facility replacing it. It is such an incredible location and a wonderful dining experience. Too many of these are going by the wayside.

    It was Valentines Day, so I appreciate that everyone is going to be busy. Our server was nice and attentive. There was nothing really wrong with our experience, but the menu was very limited (not a valentines nod in sight), the food was just OK and the Wolf Blass Yellow Label wine was overpriced (but I expect that). For $200 for 2 people, I guess I was expecting something more than I got. It was our first and (as the server explained they were closing at the end of the month) will probably be our last experience at Horizons.

    We were there Saturday and were given the best seat in the restaurant! Had a really nice time and the food was great! But we were very surprised and disappointed to hear from two different servers that Horizons will be closing the end of February!!? One said due to the price of propane & gas that is supplied, and the other one said due to the lower numbers of patrons! One thing I have noticed is the choices on the menu is very small, and it doesn't seem to have been changed or added onto for a long time! If the management and chefs made more of a point to change up the menu and add on more of a selection, the restaurant I'm sure would have done a lot better the last few years, and it wouldn't be closing!! Hopefully a new restaurant will be opening up there soon, with great menu!

    This Burnaby institution failed to impress during Dine Out Vancouver. The ambiance and location was excellent, our waiter attentive to our needs, to a point. Unfortunately, the enjoyment stopped after our entree's arrived. My mothers steak appeared fine but one bite is all it took to find out the meat was spoiled. She was not sure what the problem was so I tried it, and it was off, way off. We let the waiter know and he did not seem to understand that my mother was not complaining due to a poor cook on the steak but that it was rancid..he offered to fire another one or make another choice on the menu. She chose a re-fire, but her appetite was ruined by the taste of spoiled meat. Once the re-fire appeared, my meal was done and I watched her pick at her meal, which she then had packaged up. At no time did the waiter offer so much as apology or did the manager come by to check in. On the way home, as I thought about it, I was not happy with the lack of response about this. I called the manager when I got home, thinking that the waiter just thought that my mom was complaining about the cook of the steak and had not reported it spoiled. When I spoke to her, she said she was aware of the situation, but only said that there was no way it could have been bad, as they get deliveries of meat every day, I suggested that this may have been left out too long or was an old steak. I told her both my mom and I had upset stomachs, likely from the bad meat. She only said she would pass this on to the chef, but sounded like she didn't believe me. I'm wishing I made them try it!! Again, we didn't get so much as an apology for spoiling our meal. We won't be going back. Very disappointed in their lack of customer service, I have so many other Dine Out choices, this one is off my list.

    My wife and I have come to Horizon's a few times now. The service and food always seem to improve with each visit. It's a wonderful place to eat after a walk around Burnaby Mountain Park.

    Excellent service, delicious food, and great ambiance in a comfortable, relatively small dining room with appropriate lighting. The duck breast, steak, and salmon were all perfect. Our cocktails were the only disappointment, as my old fashioned bore only a passing resemblance to what it should have been. The wine menu is also only okay, and could have more depth in both BC and international wines. Overall, I would recommend Horizons, and I return regularly.

    Food was barely warm and salmon was over cooked. Salad was very good. Dessert acceptable. Very Smokey air irritated my eyes and throat ... remember this from a previous visit. Obviously, Horizon does not care to resolve the issue. Not happy at all.

    Love that place for a number of reasons but find the service is always a bit uneven. It was a quiet night but took a long time for our drinks to arrive, ordered a side of Brussels sprouts with dinner but they never arrived. Found out that they were out of them after I enquired. By that time we were well through our meal...this has happened before with the same server. We will go back because the food is great and the view spectacular.
