I have enjoyed Hot House for over 20 years. I noticed a huge change in the menu when the restaurant changed hands and I didn't like it. After speaking with the manager I noticed he listened and changes were made. The food is back to HH standards and the menu now has better choices...more variety.
Was pleasantly surprised at my dining experience. Had an early dinner (6 pm ) reservation so the large restaurant was relatively quiet. Yippee! Liked the menu and my salmon dinner was delicious. My friend ordered a cobb salad which she said was very good.
Our server was very efficient and kept refreshing my water glass. Nice choice of wine as well.
Server was lovely--food very disappointing and a change for the worse. Pizza was hard/burnt, toppings were burnt--like cardboard. Aglio/olio rappini pasta wasn't tossed in olive oil so it was a hard lump in the middle of the plate--not twirlable, dry and inedible, no olive oil sauce, about 3 delicious cloves of garlic- needed much more of both. This used to be my favourite dish and the fact that the kitchen didn't know that giving a guest a hard clump of dry pasta is OK was very disappointing. I asked if the jerk cauliflower was vegan/had dairy (allergic), was told no it's fine as it-- and it was served on a creamy/mayonnaise based (?) undescribed sauce which was obviously dairy based, so i could only eat some of the florets. I asked my friend to specifically go there and I was actually embarrassed at the food quality. The people and servers are really lovely, I'm sad to lose this place off my regularly go to list.
As usual, a very pleasant place to have lunch. This a regular "go to" place for myself and family/friends.
The food was perfectly fine but not amazing, and the service was very slow.
One of our ‘Go To’ restaurant choices.
Our server was exceptionally accommodating. We had a baby in our group (she was very helpful) and someone wanted a modification to their main dish (done with a smile). Food was as good as always.
My seafood pasta puttanesca was wonderful but the codcake appetizer was disappointing, very little flavour. I also miss the more colorful decor from before the latest Reno. It's a bit lacking in character. Everyone in our group of six was happy with their mains. Loved it that they offered smaller and larger pasta portions.
Long time favorite spot to have lunch especially when catching up with a friend. Not noisy like some places so you can actually have a conversation. New menu is pretty good but not as much variety as they once had. The cod cakes are delicious!! Great service too!!
We ate here for Sunday brunch. It is a lovely restaurant and there was a wonderful variety of food.
Friendly bar staff made us feel very welcome which was only for a drink on our first night in Toronto. During our discussion the restaurant was recommended and consequently, we returned 3 nights later. The excellent food was complimented by a great table and service.
It was the perfect b day dinner for my friend visiting from Japan
Good selection of food, with plenty of options for groups with different tastes. Friendly staff.
Awesome, be going since 1996!!
Great evening out and fantastic food!!
Sadly a high school group took over access to the buffet. If we had known would not have gone
We came here for the Wednesday gourmet buffet. It was our first time here and the server answers all our questions patiently. The food was really good. I really liked the chicken BBQ. Also, their cakes were really good. They have different flavors to choose from
I've been going to Hot House for many years and it is probably my favourite restaurant in Toronto. I belong to an annuitant club and we've been holding our opening luncheon there for the past nine years. The food is always good but the it's the staff who really make the difference.
I was extremely disappointed with my Salad. The superfood bowl. There was lots of kale but very few vegetables. A few florets of broccoli, a few very tiny pieces of butternut squash, about 5 pomegranate seeds. Very little quinoa as it was mixed in with the salad dressing. Would not return to the Hot House Cafe. Was extremely dissatisfied and would not recommend it to my friends.
We enjoyed our visit to the Hot House. We were seated at a great table by the window away from all the hustle and bustle of a restaurant. Our server was very friendly and accommodating so that we did not feel rushed. The food suggestions were helpful. The food was delicious! We will definitely be back!
Absolutely an outstanding experience! Excellent wait staff and attention despite a large party beside us. In and out in under an hour when requested so we could make a show. Returned later that night for dessert. Highly recommend!
A very pleasant lunch. Server was friendly and attentive.
We chose Hothouse for our pre-theatre dinner because of it's proximity to the Elgin Theatre and because of its understated atmosphere. We had my 89 year old mom with us who has both vision and hearing loss and we really appreciate that it never seems to get too loud or too dark. The friendly staff and the good food definitely made a great impression on my mom (My wife and I had already been there 3-4 times before so we knew what to expect :) ). I have no hesitation in recommending Hothouse to others.
Friendly staff, quick service and good food. We will come back.
the server was pleasant as always -the location is good for theatre goers - we should have had the Saturday Prix Fixe meal - it would have been a better value. One of our choices was the Cappelleti - the meal was definitely hot - the sauce good - the pasta not very good. I have chosen better entrees on other occasions.
Reserved for 11pm.
Showed up 30 minutes earlier, was told that it was "last call" for kitchen.
Why would you take a reservation at 11pm if the kitchen is closing?
Disappointing service, didn't feel welcome.
Restaurant is under renovation, I would make sure my customers feel very well taken care of.
Place was completely empty, we were ask to split the group on 2 tables (14 people total) anyway for easier service. Did not make sense, felt like we were an annoyance for the service team.
Won't be going back.
As always fantastic. Thanks for keeping my Zinfandel on hand.
It was okay but we went specifically for the brunch buffet. We had 3:39 reservations but were not notified the last seating for the buffet was at 3;00 so we were rushed and disappointed.
Once again the buffet was outstanding. The roast of beef was done to perfection as we're the many pasta dishes. I very much enjoy our time there. Our reservation was for 3:30 so many of the desserts were gone however, after so much food we didn't much. The little lemon squares we're so tangy, they were fabulous. This year the desserts were in a different location. My guest and I both use walkers so it was difficult transversing the stairs...but we did. We preferred the original location. Mind you, it appeared to be much busier than usual and seating was in the dessert area.
We are planning out next trip.
Four of us had a very good dinner served by a particularly attentive sever. She made our dinner even more pleasurable.
The food was okay for Saturday brunch, but for the price And menu options probably better going somewhere else in the area. I prefer to go to their Sunday buffet brunch as it is a better value and will try Wednesday dinner buffet next time!
The only issue was I booked weeks in advance and requested a booth in church st side.
When the first of my party arrived the woman at desk could not find the reservation (even though I had answered the confirmation email a day prior). She told her to sit anywhere.
She had found the reservation by the time I arrived but all booths were full so we couldn’t move.
All good. Great seafood pasta.
Great location for any activities along Front St. These people have nailed it as far as great food, excellent servers and pleasant ambiance - not easy for such a large restaurant. Mgmt and servers were all eager to look after our every need. Food was amazing - each item had a little twist of something that set it apart from similar dishes elsewhere.
We were welcomed immediately with a smile and shown to our table. Our waiter Rob was fantastic. We loved our dinner and the whole experience. We will be back!
I’ve been eating here since the 90’s and they never fail to impress.
i would normally order a pasta and should have. Instead I ordered the special, being fish and chips. Fish was very dry and the french fries were frozen fries. For these prices I would expect, at the very least, fresh cut potatoes for the fries. The waiter was very good, however.
Continues to be the go-to restaurant that I have enjoyed for over 23 years!
Intimate environment where we could intimately reminisce and share stories
Had a great casual dinner with the perfect service level. Recommend family restaurant.
We had a great time and both felt the food was better than it was the last time we were there. The only minor criticism is that the waitress seemed a bite pushy or in a rush and we clearly were not in a rush.
