Hostess was not very warm and friendly at first entry. My friend had the chicken option from the pri fix menu and it was overcooked and tough. I had the mushroom risotto which was good. Not bad for the price and close to the theaters. Service was good.

We made a reservation through OpenTable several hours before, and when we arrived at 6:50, the hostess appeared to have never opened the reservation portal. She told us our names were not on her notebook list. After we asked if they accept online reservations, she booted up the portal and spent 5 minutes trying to move things around. There was a long line of people waiting to be seated. She offered to seat us in the adjoining sports bar, which we declined, since this was an anniversary dinner. She then offered us the remaining table in the main restaurant before saying she actually had to give that table to someone else. After seating the other party (who was already waiting outside when we asked about our reservation), she told us there were 3 parties ahead of us and estimated a 20 min wait. We decided to go somewhere else. The food looked fine and folks seemed to be having a good time, although it was very loud.

Don’t bother making an online reservation. The hostess doesn’t even look at them. She has paper and pencil spiral notebook. Our reservation was at 6pm, as was another couple. At 6:20 we hadn’t been sat. Another couple with a baby with a 6:30 reservation cut the line, walked in and sat down at a table and was allowed to do so! When I spoke up to the hostess she squeezed us in next to this family. The wife heard my sister say something to me and started cussing my sister out. No staff jumped in to assist. Needless to say, we left and this bully of a woman stayed to enjoy her dinner, while people with earlier reservations stood in line waiting their turn. So poorly managed.

Great reasonable prefix dinner; ceasar salad, mushroom risotto and key lime pie. Plus a glass of house wine for $7! Nice to have an affordable restaurant in the Theater District with quality food. My only complaints are that the music was loud and it was a little hot. They had the entire front of the restaurant open and it was unusually warm in NYC. Attentive, efficient and friendly wait staff.

The food and service were exceptional. We were early for our reservation but were seated anyway. The restaurant was very intimate but also open to the street, so the best of both worlds. We preferred sitting next to the open doors and hardly noticed the street and sidewalk traffic. Would highly recommend!

IL Forno never disappoints! The mushroom risotto is delectable, delicious, and delightful! But be prepared to take half of it home - the serving is huge. The orechette with asparagus and mushrooms was also yummy, and the bolognese was very tasty. Love this place!!!!

Food was terrific. Pretty much what I expect from a theatre district Italian place. Entrees were great and Tiramisu for dessert was authentic delicious. The servers were polite and personable. They did not rush us at all but got us in and out in about an hour with a 5:30 reservation and a 7PM Broadway show down the block. Great pre-show dinner all around.

Absolutely loved everything about our experience. We sat inside right next to the open-air patio, so it was the best of both worlds. The view of the city skyscrapers adjacent to the Tuscan themed interior was spectacular. The food was amazing and the service top notch. We had the Bruschetta, Pepperoni Pizza, Fusilli Bucati, Penne Vodka Pasta, Bolognese Pasta, Lava Cake and Tiramisu (it's a must!). The Chianti was excellent, also. It was so great we dined here again on the final night of our trip. I don't remember the name of our waiter, but he made the experience absolutely perfect. We can't wait to return.

I feel badly leaving this review, but hope to spare others the misfortune of believing positive reviews and choosing to eat here. The food was below sub par. We ordered two pasta dishes and two pizzas and all were bad. Mushy pasta with bad sauce. Crust on pizzas didn’t even seem like pizza dough. It can be challenging to find reasonably priced good meals in theater district, but you can definitely do much better than this restaurant. The staff were very nice and friendly.

The hostess was not friendly or welcoming at all. It was as if she did not want to be there. I felt like I was interrupting her time and she had a bit of a scowl. The waiter more than made up for it. He was polite, jovial and attentive. The food was great and the perfect location after a Broadway show.

We were late getting there because of the subway, but they seated us anyway. The food was absolutely delicious...we loved the Orecchiette Alfredo especially! The server was prompt and kind. We like to visit every time we are in the city

Kinda weird but fun. Good food, good prices. Floor vibrating from salsa music next door or below. Our 40-something enthusiastic Italian lead waiter seemed ready to burst into song at any moment (he didn’t), while the woman at the door who seated us seemed … barely present. But was just fine.

We had 6 pm reservations but when we arrived we had to wait for 25 - 30 minutes before we were seated. Other than that , the food was good. Would have liked a bread basket while waiting for food. It seemed a little rushed. But overall, a decent place to have dinner before a show.

I’ve been coming to Il Forno for several years. It’s always a good quality meal, promptly and pleasantly served at a very fair price. I think it’s great for families or friends who want to grab a quick bite together. I wouldn’t suggest it for quiet conversation but it’s wonderful for a fun dinner. I’ll keep coming!
