Il Ponte Ratings and Reviews
Music was too loud, repetitive, and a little too religious. Other than that, the experience was nice.
Returning customer, our clients enjoy this restaurant. Food was good, service was prompt.
If you appreciate Contemporary Italian style in décor and food - vero Italiano. Il ponte is the place for you. Bravo Giancarlo !
The seafood platter was well prepared - especially the grilled octopus! My vanilla panna cotta was gorgeous. My friends enjoyed their pasta dishes desserts and wines. The atmosphere was warm modern friendly- gray for a special night out.
Had dinner at Il Ponte last night and it was so-so. There were 3 of us and the restaurant was not even half full. Although the service was efficient, our server was clearly "just doing her job". I don't think she ever smiled or tried to engage us at all during the evening. There was no interaction other than take the order, bring the food etc.
The grilled bread that was served with olives was delicious, but a stingy portion. 4 tiny pieces for 3 people.
One friend had the pasta special which was lobster ravioli, and she thought it was delicious. I had the gnocchi with lobster, which was all char grilled. I could only taste the charring and no other flavour. The gnocchi and the lobster tasted identical. I finally asked our server for some grated cheese just to give it another flavour. As well, the dish was not visually appealing. Just a bunch of off-white little things in a bowl.
The other friend had the zuppa di pesce, which again was nothing special. She is a huge fish/seafood fan and was somewhat disappointed.
Overall, I'd give this place 3/5. I'd go back if I was in the neighbourhood, but I wouldn't make a special trip again.
Definitely one of the better restaurants in the area, and comparable with any Five Star downtown.
Great service, ambiance and menu!
Highly disappointed. Was in the mood for a good classic Italian meal but ended up with flavourless and unseasoned carpaccio, far from ready pasta (completely undercooked), and a pizza who’s crust was soggy and the cheese not even fully melted). Not worth a penny.
Very disappointed with our experience at Il Ponte. I tried to book a new spot to celebrate my wife's birthday with hopes of finding a gem. It's rare that we have a night out and I was trying to make it a special one. When we arrived the hostess was pleasant but not overly friendly. I had mentioned on the reservation that it was a birthday celebration, but no mention was made by the staff. No menu specials were offered, no description of any of the menu items or recommendations etc.
Our caesar salad appetizers were very good, but when our entrees arrived, my wife's spaghetti alla carbonara di pesce pasta was very, very salty. To the restaurant's credit, the owner was very gracious and brought her a freshly cooked meal that was seasoned less aggressively. My meal the pollo con salsa di porcini was tasty but not exceptional. We ended up sharing it while waiting for my wife's meal to arrive.
All in all, the atmosphere is nice, this a good place for a conversation with drinks or a romantic evening. We were disappointed in the food (not memorable) and to an extent the service, with the exception of the Owner. While we probably won't be back, hopefully other patrons will have a better experience.
Do not hesitate to give Il Ponte a try. We'll be back for sure. We love Italian and every aspect is vero italiano.
What a great evening at Il Ponte. Giancarlo the owner was wonderful gave us great recommendations and was so accommodating. The staff were super friendly and the ambiance at the Resteraunt was lovely. Most of all the food was delicious and loved that there is gluetan free options available. Can’t wait to come back here again.
Very good first visit... I look forward to trying much more of the menu
This was my second visit @ Il Ponte , both were business dinners. The choices that we made were exceptional , in fact I stuck to the same thing on both visits. The Caprese salad was prepared differently both times however was delightful , each time taking advantage of the succulent perfectly ripe tomatoes and the Buffalo mozzarella cheese.
I will be back..
Great atmosphere - not too loud but enough people to give it a lively feel. The food was delicious. I had the salmon. Tried the caprese. Tried the gnocchi. Tried the pizza (THIN thin crust). All delicious. Going back!
The food was really good, but the portions are really tiny. I ordered Octopus and was really disappointed at how small the peice was. My pasta had 3 shrimp in it... The service wasn't amazing, she didn't ask how the food was, or if there was anything else we needed. The place was quiet but likely because it wasn't too busy. For the same price I prefer Cibo, or Church Apertivo - larger portions and more dishes.
Worst service and some of the food was wrong yet they argued about it and wouldn’t own up to it.
Space, prices and most of the food was good though.
The owner really knows how to run a business and take care of his customers. I was there for my anniversary with my wife and the night was wonderful. They had a 1/2 price bottle of wine on tuesdays so we indulged, hence the good value rating. The atmosphere and ambiance was wonderful, lights dimmed down when sun went down so it was cozy and romantic. All the staff we met were polite and kind. Overall great experience, I will be back.
My husband and I were celebrating our one year wedding anniversary over the weekend. We chose Il Ponte as it was where we had our wedding reception. One year later and the ambiance is still spectacular and the food absolutely delicious. We will be back on a yearly basis and visits in between I am sure :)
Il Ponte was a very nice and clean restaurant. It was a busy night and so service was a bit slower towards the end of our meal compared to the beginning, but this didn't both us. We started with the calamari fritti, which was absolutely delicious! The rings were nice and thick, it was fresh, not chewy and the chipotle aioli was divine! We also had the housemade gnocci, which didn't look like a large portion, however it was quite filling. The Gorgonzola cheese was a bit too overpowering for me. We also had the Spaghetti Alla Genovese, which was flavorful and well-balanced. For dessert, we had tiramisu, which was good but nothing out of the ordinary. We found that overall, it's a nice place to go to but the price at Il Ponte was a bit on the higher side, even our drinks were approximately $13 and it was not a lot in quantity.
The food, salad, pasta, fish all very delicious. Best tiramisu I have ever had. The owner is very personable, which adds to the ambiance. Only great things to say, loved it.
It's our second time at Il Ponte, and it was as good as the first time. Love their beef carpaccio.
A lovely dining experience marred by inattentive service.
Great looking restaurant. Service was good at the beginning but then hard to get attention and even pay as it got busier. We both ordered the special and it was not that great, but the person I was with said the food he had had on a past occasion was exceptional.
Octopus was cooked perfectly.
Pasta made in house and delicious.
Mains took 30 mins to arrive from our starters.
Will come back.
The food, service, ambiance at Il Ponte is excellent - a great place for a special occasion, or just a meal with friends. The owner is very supportive of local community organizations - it's great to find both excellent food and service - and a sense of social responsibility - both in the same place!
This somewhat hidden gem in Leslieville is fit a foodie. The food is consistently fantastic. It is a regular stop for me. Notably, Tuesdays are half prIce bottles.
Great local spot for dinner, food is fantastic. Owner always on site and culture of entire team makes you feel well cared for.
Celebrated our 3rd year anniversary this evening and had an exceptional time. The food was some of the best Italian food I've ever tried in Toronto. We had the Ceasar salad and Calamari Fritti to start, Margherita pizza main, and Panna Cotta for dessert. Our host was gracious and we were attended by the owner Giancarlo. Service was good and the attention to our needs was on point. Bravo!
I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great Italian restaurant in the city. Looking forward to making this my go-to weekly lunch spot and frequenting it monthly for romantic dinners! A++
We started with the fried calamari it was chewy and smelled very fishy after a few pieces we left the rest and they did not charge us for it. My wife had the seafood and pasta which she liked I had the special veal marsala which was average at best not a lot of flavor. Service was very good but the food didn't match the service.
What stands out is the attentive service. The chef does make you feel like part of his family. Food is imaginatively put together and not the expected Italian fare. Really nice location and ambiance, whether indoors or out on the patio.
We have dined at this restaurant a number of times but this last time, was truly disappointing. Firstly, our server was not at all helpful. The last time we were there, she told us of two specials but then the owner came over and informed us of a quite a few. Our server just didn't seem to be interested last time and this time, she was exactly the same. But the owner wasn't there to balance out her indifference. The restaurant was almost empty yet she didn't bother to offer fresh pepper or Parmesan for any of our courses. The gnocchi was delicious but was only a very tiny tiny portion - definitely overpriced for the amount served. We had to flag down our server to get some Parmesan and fresh pepper. She was busy folding napkins, presumably for another night. But it wasn't just the terrible service that was offputting. When we looked at the wine list, we were shocked to see a half bottle of a Chardonnay we like-and were going to order until we saw the price-listed at more than three times the price of a full bottle sells for at the LCBO. That pricing is incredibly offensive.
We had chosen the restaurant and had gone with another couple but to be honest, after the service and wine prices, we were really embarrassed.
Loved the patio! Great food nice atmosphere. Perfect summer place.
I went with a large group of girls and we all got different meals. Each meal was wonderful and we enjoyed everything!
New to the neighbourhood and thought we would try it out. Loved the décor in the restaurant. Service was excellent, food was very good as well. Definitely go back.
Never disappoints. Food and service are beyond any expectations. They aim to please and do.
I thought the food was overpriced and the portions small. I had gnocchi with mushrooms. It was good but the portion was minuscule. If you give $1 worth of pasta and charge me $24, I found it insulting and felt ripped off.
We have been here several times and each time the food and service are very good. Highly recommended.
Grate service, excellent food, perfect ambiance. The wine list is creative and the staff knows how to pair them with the menu.
Went to Il Ponte for my mother's dinner. The owner made our experience a wonderful one, and was extremely gracious. However, our server was not very friendly throughout our service and immediately made us feel as if we had made her life difficult when I mentioned we had 2 toddlers joining us.
One of my favourite neighbourhood restaurants. The food is consistently good - as is the service. Great selection of wines and cocktails.
