A pasta dish for 37 dollars, I expected A LOT more. Wasn’t even that tasty
Excellent food and excellent service! Definitely coming back!
Both the service and the food were outstanding! The truffle spaghetti is worthy of it's reputation.
I rate everything highly! Food, service, wine...everything
Our server Adam was great
Our server Shelia E is excellent! Very nice and not rushing us or wanting us to order more than we need. The only chances I would ask if, if Italian Kitchen can put someone more welcoming at reception. I find the receptionist a little cold, snobbish and not as warm and welcoming like our server.
I used to enjoy the previous location of this restaurant on Alberni for lunch. The prices are a little higher than my group of friends would normally choose for dinner, but it was a special occasion so we tried it. We each ordered an entree that was about $40 and only one of us was really happy with our food -- taste and value. For the prices, I expected better. The restaurant ambiance was very nice in the front room where we were sitting, energetic and boisterous, but not too loud to have a conversation. However, if we had been seated in the back areas, those spaces did not look as nice. The hostess was nice, and the server was patient, friendly and very attentive. No complaints about the service at all.
They did seem to have an extensive wine list, my friends enjoyed some wine by the glass, but I don't drink wine so can't say whether that was good value or not. My martinis were good, and not too expensive.
Overall, we had a nice visit and evening, but for the price, I would choose somewhere else next time.
Grilled Calamari for appetizer and seafood linguine are amazing
Very unhappy with our experience here. We came to celebrate a special birthday, and instead had an awful time.
The most upsetting part of our meal is that one of our party members has a severe nut allergy. We have dined at this restaurant before, and I myself work in the service industry so am well aware of what allergy protocols can be put in place in order to keep guests safe. Instead of seeming to follow any allergy protocol, our server belittled us and joked about how the policies had recently changed due to a guest being previously hospitalized due to an allergy incident. Tremendously inappropriate to joke about. It was clear to us that any new changes had not been effectively communicated to our server, as when we inquired about the dessert menu, for example, we were in no uncertain terms told that, "all of the desserts aren't safe. There are nuts sprinkled everywhere on that station," so we didn't get to choose a birthday dessert at all - then we were presented with one we didn't choose or want, with no explanation as to whether it was "safe" to have at our table. We left confused, and very frustrated. Our server seemed very uncertain about the safety of all items on the menu throughout our meal, with respect to a nut allergy, and repeatedly spoke to us in a condescending manner.
Our server overall failed to take care of us. He recommended one great wine, but other than that he consistently left the table quickly, sometimes mid-sentence, without leaving us a chance to give all of our orders when we wanted something. He seemed like he didn't have time for us.
The seafood linguine is the best! The service was great.
We loved everything and can’t wait to return the next time we are in Vancouver.
Took 20m to get water.
Another 10m to order.
Pasta was cold and soggy.
Overall not worth the price.
I was quite disappointed with this meal. I was really looking forward to it because we’d had eastern at it’s sister restaurants, Coast and Black and Blue, and had absolutely loved them. Although our server was good, the food just was not up to snuff.
Entire experience was far more than I expected. I would particularly like to single out for praise our server Jamie R who provided exemplary service
We booked a reservation for New Years Eve and they took a $50 deposit for it. We have never been before, and we decided to choose this restaurant because of the menu that we looked at online. Upon arrival, we were told there was a “New Years Eve” menu that we weren’t told about when we were called for a deposit. It had only a few pasta options, which was very disappointing. I let the waitress know I was hoping for something with tomato sauce and she said she can get the kitchen to make me something, so that was good as the pasta that was on their menu online was not being served on NYE. When they came out with the dish, it was just spaghetti and tomato sauce. There was no flavour and it tasted very “cheap.” We were happy to get out of there as soon as possible, and ended up just ordering pizza for dinner. It was definitely not worth the price. The pasta ordered by my boyfriend was overly priced for the quantity that was served.
We were incredibly disappointed with our NYE meal. The ravioli was so overpriced and not a meal. 4 tiny little bites is hardly an appetizer and my partner left frustrated that we had spent so much and that he was still hungry. The seafood pasta was a decent portion but bland, could have had a more flavourful meal at home. However, the server was lovely and atmosphere was nice. I guess we chose the wrong dishes :(
We went to the Italian Kitchen for the first time last week. The food portions were adequate, the service was attentive and the signature brussel sprouts rocked our world!!!!
This is a great restaurant to go to for date night, it has delicious authentic Italian food and a nice cozy atmosphere. We will definitely be back again.
The experience was overall fine. The food was forgettable and mediocre at best. The server and focaccia was the best part of the dining experience.
I had the Truffle Spaghetti and Meatballs - it was “okay”. I didn’t taste any truffle at all and wouldn’t even know it was there if it wasn’t the name of the dish. It was also very garlic-y and soupy. Meatballs were the best part, but they weren’t anything special to be honest. The portion size was decent.
My brother had the Calamari as he wasn’t very hungry. It was definitely the most “different” looking grilled Calamari that I’ve ever seen. The seafood is unrecognizable by the way it’s cut. The grilled squid portion is small, even for a Antipasti. The fennel sausage just looked unappetizing. The taste of everything was not very good. The dish was sent back and we even said we would still pay for it, but just didn’t want it though it wasn’t charged in the end. Definitely not what we would call grilled Calamari. My brother just ate the focaccia bread that’s served. He didn’t want anything else as he was pretty turned off.
The server was really the best part of the experience. He was very attentive and gracious. He was apologetic about the Calamari and offered various options for replacing the meal, which my brother declined. He was attentive and friendly.
I probably will not be returning back to this restaurant. I don’t think it’s a horrible restaurant - I think for tourists who will only eat here once, it’s a decent option, but as a resident, I can’t recommend it.
Great food and service
We have never been disappointed with service, quality of food and atmosphere at Italian Kitchen.
Would still like them to go back to the old locations menu but was a very good meal. The old menu in the new location would be exceptionally.
With all the choices in Vancouver the Italian Kitchen need to improve their food.
For an Italian restaurant we were disappointed in our meal.
We ordered Seafood Pasta, very simple meal yet our meal was average at best.
And gluten free pasta, really! is this necessary? such a small percentage of people have issue with gluten.
We previously had a great meal at Italian Kitchen however this past experience was disappointing.
Food and service were exceptional. I would come back anytime I am in Vancouver
Really enjoyed our experience tonight! New chef did not disappoint-gnocchi was the best I’ve ever had! Our server was very pleasant and attentive! Looking forward to booking again.
Amazing night out with my love!
It was great!
Food did not taste good and was far from being Italian. Our server was great and knowledgble about wine.
Table service, ambience, and food were terrific. But reception at the door by the hosts was cold and uninviting.
Great food and excellent service.
Since the new location price have increased a lot while quality has actually decreased (37$ for seafood linguini that tasted average)
Happy hour was denied to us because it only applies to the people eating at the bar, not at the tables right next to the bar
So to get happy hour you have to eat in an uncomfortable setting IF you get a seat (10 people max)...how cheap of you?!
Will not recommend that place!
We came here for our annual Christmas lunch for the second year in a row because not only did we love the food, we also loved the atmosphere, the attentive staff, and the quality of every menu item that graced our table.
Overall a good dining experience for our family.
Fabulous new calamari dish. Pasta and lamb sandwich really terrific
Amazing service. Was there for a birthday, above and beyond to make it great. Beautiful new location. Delicious food. Highly recommend.
A nice restaurant with good friendly service. The food is trying to be creative/inventive in "look", but not so much in taste. the mousse beets were cute, but just sweet nothings, and appetizers in general were bland, except for the fried brussel sprouts, which received most of their taste from the salt.
I ordered the scallop risotto, and while the scallops were tasty, i could not tell if I was having risotto or rice soup in black ink.... But i am italian ...
It was good, only thing was we ordered a drink and then food, food showed up 4-5 minutes later. Did not have time to enjoy the atmosphere. We were in and out inside and hour.
Service was really good
Food was quick
But the food tasted way better at the old location. I wouldn’t come back here ever again.
Server was very attentive. Food was very good. Nice atmosphere.
seriously slow service
Fish was undercooked and canelloni cold - sent it back and the 2nd plate was much the same. Have been there a number of times and it was always good but not this time.
