During Covid in Januaray. We sat in the garden area. Our first trip to Barre/Montpelier. I would go J morgans again. Nice atmosphere, excellent food. But being one of the finest restaurants in Montpelier, my criticisms are based on that fact. Music - not the best of choice. A bit too loud to start with and way too much bass. They did adjust the volume and bass when I had requested. Service- very polite and nice servers. Server came immediately to take our drink order. No time to review the drink menu. One person did order a drink at that time and a bus person delivered it. Our server took awhile to come back for my initial drink order. When the server came back, I skipped the cocktail order and ordered the dinner wine along with our apps. Wine came, glasses poured. Apps came, ordered entrees. Wine was never poured again ( along with water glasses) - is this something that servers are no longer doing, covid related, I am not sure. Dirty utensils removed and replaced which was nice.

We loved it 2 of us had the duck which was great then 1 had filet mignon and I had the top sirloin both excellent But you must try their garlic bread bam as Emiral would say

I brought my cousin and 3 kids with me - we sat in the bar area dining section- I love this restaurant - been going there for years- this time it was so bad- I just had to write this review - we were there over 1:15 min before our food arrived - service was poor and it wasn’t all that busy- it was frustrating - very frustrating. This experience was NOT the J Morgan’s I know- but Covid or not- this was pretty bad- the food was cold, the lobster mac&cheese was terrible - and it had only a few pieces of lobster - and to make it worse- they automatically assigned 20% for gratuity - something that was not deserved- I was going to tip about 10-12%- 20% wasn’t deserved at all.

J Morgans is the best gourmet food in Montpelier. Moderately prices and a wo Derulo ambiance with casual dining attire.

We had a late reservation, and Morgan's was perhaps 45 minutes away from closing, but we were never made to feel rushed. We were assured by a very friendly and professional staff that we could take our time and have a drink before we ordered. The food was excellent. Our kudos to the entire staff. We live in New Jersey, but we anticipate visiting Montpelier again, staying at the Capitol Plaza Hotel, and eating at Morgan's.

I haven't been out too much during this pandemic, but I miss dining out at J. Morgans. We were lucky enough to get a seat at the bar, and was pleasantly surprised that each set of bar stools was surrounded by plexiglass. Our dinner was amazing, we both had steak. The salad alone was a meal, and the atmosphere is always pleasant. For just a little while it was nice to dine out. Thank you!

The food, as always, was exceptional however the service was horrible. It took 45 minutes to get our appetizers, it took an average of 20-25 minutes to get beverages and kept hearing that the bar was backed up yet there was no one behind the bar.
Will go back because of the food but the service was extremely slow especially when it wasn’t overly crowded.

Birthday get together

We had a great time, the food was delicious, and the atmosphere was so much fun. It is awesome that we can once again eat inside at the restaurant. We missed all of the staff. We’ll be back (probably at least weekly). Thank you for allowing everyone to relax, enjoy ourselves and get to escape from the worries of the week!

Food is outstanding, service is terrible. Excuse after excuse why nothing is the fault of the server. 15 mins to get a drink from the bar, appetizers and entrees arriving 5 mins apart then no butter, no sour cream, no salt, no pepper and no bernaise (though all had been requested at the time of the order) ...etc. When the server is asked...its all either due to Covid or the kitchen/bars fault. Then...to finish it off, server dropped off the check and went home. Only found this out by waiting 15 mins the going to the bar where they told me she was gone and had transferred the check to the bar for payment Having been a server and managed hotels/restaurants....I can easily say that server is on of the laziest, most careless and uninterested I have ever encountered. The best food in the world is useless with a server like that on the floor treating guests so horribly.

It’s a very small relaxing nice place. The food was delicious and the prices are not bad for the quality of the food. Definitely recommend this place for a nice casual meal.

This was my friends and my second visit to J. Morgan's. They have the best salads either of us has ever had. Huge! Gigantic pieces of cake! The servers are gracious and friendly. We love it and will be back again soon.

Haven’t been in 6 months. First place we visited together since COVID shutdown. As always, great food and a really safe and pleasant experience.

The carrot cake was excellent. I should have had that first!

The food was great, took a little long but it came out warm and yummy! It was out anniversary and the desert plate we received was great! Gretchen was fabulous and our waiter was good too.

Sunday brunch was pretty awesome! Just a few things that would make it a little better.
The corned beef hash was a little salty but there shouldn’t be anything but corned beef potatoes and onion Done! There was like a pickling spice and green peppers👎🏼. Home fries were pretty darn good but slightly salty. Overall great brunch would defiantly go again and will defiantly suggest to friends and family. Omelet station was to die for!

Always a great time and great food! Been coming her for years with my family, the food is always spectacular. Brunch is well worth the price. Dinner is even better!

Met up to take a couple friends out for belated birthday dinners. One had the beef tip special (very good) the other 2 of us each had a different salad. Cobb salad which is a favorite of ours and we’re known to order it each time we go, didn’t seem to have any where near the amount of fixings on it but plenty of greens. Myself I changed it up and went with the Vermonter salad. I thought for the price of it as much greens as the Cobb salad had mine was very sparse and as for topping hardly anything on it including the smoked chicken.

All around great atmosphere and good service but we were disappointed in our salads this time.

It was a great place. Meat was cooked properly, and even the beets that came with the steak were delicious (coming from someone who doesn’t like beets at all.)

My only complaint is that I wanted a nice date with my BF but got a table right in the center of the restaurant’s walkways.

pricey, but it was very good. Stuffed pork chop was excellent and the vegetable selection was very good and different. Sometime the place could use a facelift, doesn't match the pricing. Been a few times will go back very good.

My favorite restaurant in VT, Food was amazing as always, lobster Mac n cheese had nice big chunks of lobster. Pesto scallop dinner was so good. 4 large, fresh, sweet scallops, the cream sauce was out of this world and you can't go wrong with an order of the garlic bread. You will not be disappointed eating here.

Food was excellent! Generous portions and beautifully displayed. We enjoyed our food tremendously. However, our server was poorly trained. For example, we got our check before we got our dessert order. We asked for ketchup and it did not come initial after the meal. We ordered steaks and the server didn’t bring steak knives. When we asked for them, she brought only two (four of us ordered / needed knives).

With that being said, the food was great and value was there. Very high quality food.

I have used Open table to make reservations at this restaurant several times. We were seated at a table right next to the kitchen doors. Constant back and forth of a busy staff. I really don't think there should be a table here at all. It took a half an hour to get the drink I ordered when we first sat down. They no longer bring bread to table, instead they bring a small cup of hummus and some croutons. This was pretty sad. I get it was Saturday night, but the food was thrown together and really looked lousy. I will not be returning.

We made a reservation and still waited 30 minutes to get a table. When it was time to be seated, we were seated at a tiny table in the back of the room in a corner next to the kitchen. So we took the time to make a reservation and still had to wait for a bad table.

It was not advertised that the menu had been limited due to valentine's day the day before.

People were waiting 20 minutes just to pay their checks and the tables were not even full.
