I love the place, but from my latest experience I must admit that the live music was a bot too loud; and the food I ordered, although delicious, was considerably cold.
Had a 5pm reservation. It was basically an empty restaurant when we arrived(and left). Made the reservation because it was Father’s Day and we had 6 people. We were stuffed in a corner, no view of a tv or anything. In and out quickly would have likely lingered with some drinks but lack of atmosphere in literally what felt like the Harry Potter closet drove us out quickly.
Just need a little more shade and maybe turn the music down just a tad for Sunday lunch. Otherwise, lovely and great view!
Terrible. Waited 25 min before server came to get drink order/first visit to table. Another 20 min for drinks to arrive. Ordered appetizers and after 40 min of waiting and no food we left as had a show to catch at K-rock centre which we had told our server when we ordered food.
Will not be back as is same view of others in party and have shared this terrible experience with many friends already. I have worked in service industry and never in my days as a server or guest have I experienced such unacceptable service.
We recently celebrated a special occasion here and it was awful! They seemed to run out of everything and they were very unorganized. Also it took forever to get drinks
Great service. Great views
We had 2 wheelchairs and had a nice quiet spot on second floor. It was a bit tight for 2 wheelchairs but it was fun for my parents. We love the roof top but the high tables dont work for the wheelchairs
We dined at 7:30 PM. Great time to go. The meal and service was great. The place was crazy busy when we arrived and we were warned our meals would be delayed 35-40 minutes. However the 4 of us were there to dine not to eat and run. Our server Katie was attentive and friendly. 3 out of 4 had the The Smiling Budda. It was delicious and a large serving, we would all recommend it and order it again. Comos are tasty and a good portion. The music on the roof top patio was very good. Hometown Music festival. Great view up there too. It was a great evening. Patio was not that crowded although bring a sweater.
My friend and I needed a healthy evening meal pre-10km run in the morning. I had the Smokin' Salmon and she had the breast of chicken. The server substituted out the rice for extra vegetables and avocado. Nice glass of red wine, beautiful view. A bit cool as the sun went down. Heaters along the perimeter would be nice in addition to the ones at the bar. The stools seem a bit too big for people to move freely about getting in and out of their seats. Having said that, that won't stop us from returning. Food was EXCELLENT.
Reservation for 5:30 no appetizer until 7:20 we were told the kitchen was busy but they kept shoveling more people in, we left very disappointed and will not recommend this place to anyone. We also drove an hour each way to get there, seems like greed was the reason for this problem especially when we booked a reservation.
Have already sent my dissappointed review on the jack astors website.
Booked a reservation a week before requesting a high chair and called to confirm. When we got there the gave us a table without a high chair. Went to give us a booth next, i asked for a high chair, they said they couldnt put a high chair at a booth. Then WHY offer a booth🤦🏽♀️
Our waiter Nolan was very knowledgeable, friendly and professional- our meal was excellent- ( pad Thai, and burger and fries)
Had dinner with my kids before a show at the K-Rock Centre, had a great time!
We were promptly seated and also our waitress greeted us very quickly.
Both we very pleasant
Our food and drinks arrived in a timely manner
I also asked for a glass of water that did not arrive
Perhaps serving water or at least asking if guest want water would be a nice touch.
Overall happy with our visit
We were eating out to celebrate two family birthdays. When we sat down, I mentioned to the server why we were there. Not that I expected any kind of fanfare, but some small recognition would have been nice. We got no recognition whatsoever. My classic burger came with cheese by mistake, which wasn't a big deal, but my step-daughter's gluten free salad came with croutons and had to be sent back. The only gluten free dessert was ice cream, and a very modest sized bowl of ice cream with sauce came with a $5.50 price tag (3 a la mode scoops at $1.50 each plus another $1.00 for the sauce). Pretty steep, we thought, especially since it was the birthday girl's dessert. The pop at over $4.00 per drink also seemed pretty expensive. The server was not overly attentive but okay. The food was fine, but overall, I was pretty disappointed in the experience and the value and don't think we'll be visiting again soon. This has been a go-to place for many years so this is kind of disappointing for us.
Ambiance and service were hood but food was not at the Jack astor's standard. Plates were half empty and food very average
Service was not ideal our waitress seemed more interested in big tables so walked by us several times and took a very long time to respond to our needs. Did not have the appetizers we wanted which was very disappointing
Our server cat was outstanding, always filling up drinks and making sure the table was set with the necessities. She was very friendly and outgoing.
Awful! Maybe they were overwhelmed/understaffed during our visit (my first and I live in Kingston), but I won’t be back based on this experience.
There were just two of us and we were seated for our reservation at 6:00. Then waited 10 minutes before anyone came to the table. We ordered drinks (should have ordered food then too) and the waitress left again. 15 minutes before we see her again, ordered two items and actually asked if these would work because we were going to a show at The Grand at 7:30 and had time restraints (hoped to leave by 7). After being assured timing would be fine we then waited for over 30 minutes, no sign of food or waitress. We found someone else who started looking for waitress, she arrived not long after 7 with our food. We were disappointed, asked for bill immediately because we had to go and started eating. I had Chicken Parmigiana, it was cold along the edges, had clearly been sitting in the kitchen for a while. Other person had Steak Frites and their steak was also cold. I never touched my noodles that came with the Chicken. Manager had already been alerted by other staff that there was a problem. Our meal provided at no charge and we left. Sadly I won’t return...too many good options in this city to deal with that. Worst dining experience in Kingston. Sorry. D-
Great night out, fun atmosphere and delicious food.
Hostess made a comment about havingredients to seat us in the bar because there were no specifications on the table request. A) this was rude, B) a need to do so was not clear on the booking form. Why would you have to use bar seating as default?
The table we had was very close to the door and very drafty. Our server was nice enough but not present when we needed her. One person in our party ordered a burger with only ketchup and got his smothered in mayo. They told us to make a new one would take time and boy did it ever. Everyone was finished he did not even have his. We were very surprised since the restaurant was not at all busy. Not our best visit and glad we weren't in a rush.
We went for New Years Eve diner before going to the movies it wasn’t our first choice but it good food and good start for our evening. Same sports bar kinda food and ambiance. Will go back for a casual diner.
The chicken for one of our meals was a bit under cooked so they gave us a new plate right away and dessert for our whole party of and 10, on the house!
Excellent staff service, wonderful decor, outstanding cuisine! Menu is truly special. Great downtown location for a meal, or bite to eat, before or after theatre, movie, hockey. Such an inviting and warm ambiance!
Little bit irritated that i made reservation and the hostess sat us in the bar. Food was barely lukewarm i hade the tuna which was delicious and my sister had the Pad Thai both were on the verge of being cold. Server was amazing but very busy.
Great ambience. Food is always a little cold or lukewarm by the time I get it. Waitresses and waiters are always top notch friendly and helpful. Love the shirt slogans.
Varied menu with enough choice to satisfy all three of us, each with differing tastes, large selection of local beers on tap. Seated in booth on upper floor as bar area on ground floor too noisy. Pleased that there was an elevator between floors. Early Monday evening not at all crowded, reservation had been made, but obviously not necessary, however still quite noisy even upstairs, with high ceiling and no sound insulation. My idea of a "medium cooked" steak was not the same as the chef's, it was too rare in the middle, around the edges was fine but the central piece was too raw to be edible, for me anyway - discovered too late to send it back for further cooking. Attentive, rapid and friendly service, though hidden away in a booth the server (Connor) kept a close eye on us and the bill was presented as soon as we had indicated that the meal was complete, though there was no pressure to vacate the table. A generally pleasant experience, though unremarkable for our first visit to any Jack Astor's Restaurant.
We had a nice evening here for our anniversary dinner - it was later in the evening but the crowd was very tolerable and the MBA finale game was on. The location is easily accessible from many hotels and situated in the liveliness of downtown Kingston. Food was great and service was kind and checked up on us and very polite. We would recommend this Jack Astor's for a nice meal.
Fantastic assistance and service to make sure I was happy and served in a timely fashion! Also folks serving seemed happy and enthusiastic!
We got a patio seat right beside the bar and there were crowds of people trying to get by us all night and it was so irritating. Not good seating, not a good atmosphere.
The drinks were super slow getting to us. They waited for almost 20 minutes to tell my friend that we out of what she ordered. Then it took another 15- 20 for her second choice in wine to arrive to have be the wrong size. The manager was fantastic, he did what he could to make it right.
Enjoyed a great meal with my son and my mom during our visit to Kingston. All personnel were helpful when dealing with my son's food allergies. Was in communication with the Food Service Manager prior to the visit, and information was clearly communicated to server and to Chef during our visit. Chef visited our table within the first few minutes to review allergens noted and to reassure us that items of interest were free of allergens noted. The precautions and protocols in place made me and my son feel very comfortable with restaurant and ordering dinner. Aside from the attention provided in meal preparation, the meal was delicious! The server we had was also excellent: friendly and very attentive to our needs. I'm happy to recommend this restaurant to others...especially to those live with food restrictions and who have trouble finding a place with accommodating and helpful food service professionals. Kudos to this crew.
The server was friendly and helpful. I was with a group of six friends. Did not particularly like the long narrow table with the high-backed chairs - we asked to be moved to a booth, and that was fine with the staff. The menu has a big selection; the Summer menu looked interesting to all - the Sugar Shack chicken fingers were delicious, but next time, I'd ask for a bit more sauce to be applied underneath them.
The washroom situation near the bar is inadequate; ask for the location of the other washrooms when you arrive; no one should be lining up to use a restaurant washroom on a Friday night! Single stall facilities are for your house, not a public place!
Our visit was very good. The only thing was that when I reserved online I was mislead to believe that I was reserving a rooftop table. In the reservation they mentioned patio, and that is the only patio. We were told on arrival that there were no rooftop reservations, they were able to find us a table on the rooftop, which we really appreciated. I will not reserve online again for Jack Astors.
Hi my son picked Jack Asters for his graduation dinner. Good choice! Excellent service and good food!
Would definitely go again!
Loved the setting location by the window. My server was fantastic !
I love eating at Jack Astor’s it's one of mine and my family's favorite places to eat at. They have the most amazing pan bread there and they make an outstanding bruchetta. As for there entrees I love there chicken parm and if I want a good hamburger it's there holy smoke burger. There service is usually very friendly and they are quite efficient. Great place to eat all around would highly recommend this establishment, plus I think this jack Astor’s is the only one that has roof top dining, I can't wait to try it now that the nice weather is here.
When we got there they didn't think they had our reservation which threw me off. In the special requests on Open Table reservation I mentioned it was for a birthday and would like a song but no one asked or acknowledged that. Food was good and we had a fun time otherwise.
