Jack Astor's - Square One
In all seriousness, we take real pride in our food. Try our Cluckin’ Fresh Chicken Fingers, made and seasoned with fresh, never frozen chicken tenders. This isn’t run-of-the-mill pub grub. Our Band of Chefs are influenced by a wide variety of tastes and have travelled across the globe to gain inspiration.
But outside of the kitchen, we find it hard to take ourselves seriously. We have an Elvis booth. For no particular reason. Folks, that really does say it all. We’re sports fanatics, music nuts and love a good joke. If you’re into at least one of those things, we should hang out.
Slow service , waited 15 minutes for someone to ask if we want water
Food is always very good, but it’s getting UN-enjoyably expensive!
The service was TERRIBLE
We started by just ordering drinks, we waited while another table ordered, and yet another table paid. You should at LEAST deliver drinks, so that we don’t feel like we’re being ignored!
For dessert we just asked for Cappuccino, Latte, EVEN HOT CHOCOLATE (which incidentally I’ve had there before), he told us NONE.
So we had NOTHING; paid & left!
Wrong meal was brought to me, the correct one came but was not very good. Had Asiago chicken bow ties pasta.
Food was typical good bar style food. However service was absolutely terrible. Trevor was our server and besides taking our order he didn’t come back to our table even though he was around. Our food was run by someone else and we finished eating and waited for almost 20 minutes until the manager came by and asked if we were done. She then went to get Trevor to get us our bill. Very disappointed with our experience. We felt like very under valued as customers.
Hostess got us a table near the bar area. Great atmosphere for the Raptors game!
The rice I ordered was so hard couldnt cut with my fork
Took 20 minutes to get seated even with reservations, plus the tvs are tiny. The even got my wine selection wrong and refused to correct the mistake.
Everything was good minus the fact I asked for a table in the bar side and it didn't happen.
Limited menu. Bulk of food fried. Prices excessive for type and quality of food
The food was decent, but we didn't have the best service. Our waitress barley talked to us and when we asked for recommendation on a type of beer she was not very help. She acted like she didn't care she just said "depends on what you like". I had to change my reservation time due to some traffic issues and we were coming from out of town. When I called to change our reservation I ended up being on hold for 5 minutes, so I hung up and called back and then I was on hold again for another 5 minutes. I was just disappointed with how long it took to change my reservation. I wanted to change it before it was too late.
Our waitress was amazing. The table was ready on time.
Food was cold, very late, had to ask for utensils several times. Always got something wrong, forget sides, came after already finished food.
Disappointed because I go there every year for my birthday, very disappointed. Will have to find something else next year
A great pre-show dinner with the grandkids! Dinner was good, service was fast and friendly.
I ordered my favourite Smiling Buddha Salad, but was disappointed that many of the ingredients (strawberries, nuts, etc.) were VERY limited - sliced berries didn't even amount to one full berry. Goat cheese was scarce. I have often had this salad at other locations, but this location appears to cut back on the ingredients that make this salad special. Also, the chicken breast on top was clearly not freshly made... it was barely room temperature and looked grey - it was not very moist. Still tasted ok, but I've had MUCH better at other J.A.'s locations. If we had more time, I would have likely sent it back. All other meals at our table looked great.
Was extremely loud, and the monitors were not even placed throughout for us to watch any of the games we wanted to see. Having 7 small monitors in one spot, and then none on one side (were we were) was just not making sense to us.
We had a great server. His name was Sean. Super friendly and attentive! Was on top of it the whole night through!
We were out for a ladies night out and we had a fantastic time.
We were greeted and welcomed nicely.
Our server Amy W was fantastic. She took our orders and was able remember what was ordered and by whom. She has a great ability to read her guests. We all had fun with her. Amy was running all over , interacting with all the people she was serving. When she presented us with our bills, the six of us (3 couples) were amazed that she separated them correctly. When I go back, I will ask to sit in the section Amy is serving. Great food and a great time.
Great place, food was okay. Service was kinda of slow, but understandably as their was few servers on
We made a reservation for 9:30pm. Our server ignored our table. Drinks took over 30 minutes to be brought to the table and did not come out all together. Our server only came to our table to order drinks/food and to pay. He never checked in so we were unable to order a second drink. Our food took until 11:00 to arrive and we had only ordered 3 appetizers. (That was 1 1/2 hours after we sat down). We had to ask a manager to check to see if our food was even coming. One dish was cold. Terrible service. No apology or compensation. It was not busy since it was later on. Jack Astor’s corporation should be ashamed at their lack of service.
Our table was next to the wall and it was absolutely freezing. It was a business lunch meeting and I was so uncomfortable. My toes were so cold that I had to wear my coat during the meeting. My clients also said it was so cold and their toes were also freezing. Food was good but the fact that I was so darn uncomfortable I was not able to do business. I just wanted to leave.
Waited forever for our drinks and forever for our refills
It was good. Will go back for sure.
Great service and delicious food!!
Jacks usually isn’t the fastest with service, which I totally get because it’s always so busy but on Saturday night they had a full dining room and were on top of everything. I don’t think I’ve ever got my food so quick it was great.
Customer service award goes to....Olivia!
Seriously best server I've got in a while. She was smiling and looked to actually enjoy her job. She took the time to actually ask my daughter (who's ten) How her day was..and when she said she just went to chapters Olivia asked books likes...it was wonderful to feel like we were more then just a cheque number.
The food was amazing and came out quick. Big portions.
It started to get loud about half way through our meal and the lighting was a bit dim BUT we'll take that over shotty service anyday.
Our company wasn’t the best but the food was great!
I regret picking this restaurant to celebrate a special occasion with my family.
First of all, why the hell would you seat 6 people at a booth table?? One person has to go to the bathroom and everyone has to get up, its ridiculous. It didn’t help that it was incredibly tight either, I felt like I was suffocating the entire time. It seemed like whoever designed the layout of the restaurant wanted to fit in as many tables as possible.
Second, I ordered a cheeseburger with a veggie patty but I was given the Hold the Beef burger instead. It did not taste good. Whoever made it really overdid it with the garlic lemon aioli, it was like eating a burger with a lot of vinegar on it.
Third, the veggie board nacho was ridiculously overpriced considering it only had lettuce, cheese, cilantro, and some whole avocado pieces on there.
Overall, I don’t think I will be going back to Jack Astors anytime soon and I would not recommend it to anyone
We were kept waiting for quite some time by our waiter. No kids menu was given and no drink order was taken for about 15 minutes or so. Another waitress saw us waiting and helped out
None of our food was very hot, their Caesar salad is supposed to be made with romaine and iceberg lettuce, it was only iceberg lettuce which was not appetizing. The wings were tiny. Overall, glad we only came for a few apps and not anything else! Service was decent but not great.
Food was really good and arrived in a timely manner! Our server Sarah was very nice and patient with us.
Overall we had a lovely lunch. A few things could be improved: the online lunch menu is not available in the restaurant which surprised us. Our waitress, who was friendly, didn’t seem to have had any on the job training. She didn’t clear plates until we asked her to which was about 20 minutes after we had finished. She never came back to ask if we wanted coffee or dessert. We had to track her down for the bill. She has potential just no guidance so please provide that to your newer staff. Thanks
It was good but took too long to get more fajitas and water
Good experience, was directed to our table once we got to the restaurant - no waiting needed. Server was great, made recommendations for our order and also brought out complimentary dessert since it was our anniversary! Great service!
Jack’d up Peanut butter cup was not good as it appeal in presentation. A waste of money.
Great place if you have a loud group or kids. Food is ok. Wings need more sauce but overall it's decent
Food was nothing special but good. Service was terrible.
Been there several times, and always get the bread. but this time the bread apparently is out. drink was okay, and apps are ok. but definitely will make sure they have bread next time
Very nice restaurant good menu! Service excellent.
Hostess was very rude I had two tables because when I called I was told that I could not reserve for 16 people....the hostess had alot of attidue when we asked we could get the two tables beside each other.
I understand that when it's busy certain requests can be difficult to accommodate but she made no effort to find a solution and blamed us for not asking for a bigger table in the reservation...but we did
I honestly will never come back ...in such a competitive environment you can't have that kind of attidue
Definitely need to improve food delivery time and train servers to provide adequate service. First time I’ve been to the Square One Jack Astor’s, and definitely will never come back to this location. Poor service provided by Andre, our server for the night. Very disappointing experience overall. After my mother’s food arrived, she asked for jalapeños and my server didn’t bring them till she was done her meal, despite me asking for them twice and his response was “they’re preparing them.” I asked for take home containers, my server didn’t even provide me with a bag to put those containers in until after I paid the bill and asked for a bag. And lastly, I ordered chicken wings, and I had forgot you could get the wings deep fried or bake. And when my server brought the wings, they were deep fried, had he asked me while I was ordering they came into two different cooked conditions, I would’ve asked otherwise. Moreover, the wings were so dry, literally there was no sauce. Definitely wouldn’t come back to this location, I’ve had much better service at different Jack Astor’s.
Good food. Fair price and portions. Not fine dining but plates very well presented.
After eating at Jack Astor’s I got the stomach flu. They need to do a better job job especially with their food and service
