Jack Astor's - St. John's
In all seriousness, we take real pride in our food. Try our Cluckin’ Fresh Chicken Fingers, made and seasoned with fresh, never frozen chicken tenders. This isn’t run-of-the-mill pub grub. Our Band of Chefs are influenced by a wide variety of tastes and have travelled across the globe to gain inspiration.
But outside of the kitchen, we find it hard to take ourselves seriously. We have an Elvis booth. For no particular reason. Folks, that really does say it all. We’re sports fanatics, music nuts and love a good joke. If you’re into at least one of those things, we should hang out.

music was a tad loud
Fantastic service and excellent food.
absolutely amazing food and servers. only issue was the music was to loud.
Server was great, food was pretty good and great ambiance. Beer tasted a little off but all in all a great experience
Robyn was a great server. Great location. Noise was loud but not crazy loud.
I can’t put my finger on it but this location is better than the others that I’ve been to. It may be the location. I only come to St John’s once a year or so and it’s consistently good.
The team there always do a great job.
Went for my fathers birthday. Was his first time there and loved the steak cooked for him. Overall good meal
Terrible first time experience, requested a patio table and didn’t even get a ocean view table inside. The restaurant was almost empty and they sat us next to another table, given COVID I didn’t think that was appropriate. We were given 1 menu for 3 of us, they forgot to bring our drinks, one of us had chicken fingers that were terrible and 2 of us had the stir fry bowl and they were soaked in sauce to the point none of us finished our meals. Given COVID and the fact that the place was empty I don’t see the reasoning of the bad service.
Checking in was VERY confusing. We had a reservation, but were told to wait in line. My husband actually went in and asked what we should do as we were going to miss our reservation time while waiting in the line. We then discovered that we were waiting behind people with no reservations. Several others in the line had the same issue. Door staff were NOT at all helpful. Having two lines would solve this issue - one for reservations and one for walk ins. The food was good, but honestly, the confusion upon arriving at the restaurant is enough to put me off visiting again.
Very relaxing. Great service. Not rushed. Food was wonderful.
I had fish and sweet potato fries. Fish was terrible. I have had it in the past and enjoyed, this time around it was bad.
Server was not overly enthusiastic and needed to be asked multiple times for items (water, vinegar, etc) some of which never came out at all.
Then at 10:30 she requested we pay our cheques so she could go home but that we would be taken care of by other servers. I left at midnight and had not seen a server to our table by that point in time. Easily the worst service I’ve ever had at Jack’s as their service is generally incredible.
Very nice experience however service was mediocre. The lady was very nice but we waited and seemed she wasn’t paying attention to the table.
Excellent food and fantastic service in a modern very clean environment. The wait staff were very helpful, pleasant and professional.
Great time we will go back
Service was slow, took long time to get food and we were finished our meal when waitress checked back. She said she would bring refills on drinks, but it was too late, we were done so told her no but they brought them out anyways. Long time to get bill.
Great evening out
Great food, great service. Very accommodating for children.
Good food and excellent service. I would recommend this restaurant for couples and families
Amazing as always
Disappointing experience. We made a reservation, showed up on time, but apparently they gave away our table twice, causing an extra 20 min wait to be seated. Not to mention the "waiting area" was nothing more than a conglomerate of people standing around with no social distancing in place. First, off we ordered our drinks. The coke was flat and asked the waitress to take it back and get me a water. No big deal. But it only went downhill from there. I ordered the buffalo chicken sandwich with a Caesar salad for the side and my girlfriend ordered the clubhouse with Buddha salad. I asked for the blue cheese dressing on the side, my girlfriend wanted goat cheese substituted on her salad for cheddar, or whatever other shredded cheese was available. Not too difficult. Anyways, the buffalo sandwich showed up with the blue cheese on the sandwich and my girlfriend's salad showed up with the cheese correctly subbed, but was missing 5 other ingredients..... We mentioned the errors to the waitress, who took our food away to be remade. The wait for the remade sandwich was overly long, only for it to show up with the dressing, mild sauce (that the chicken was supposed to be dipped in), and coleslaw topping all on the side (basically build your own sandwich) and the Caesar salad was missing. The waitress simply told my girlfriend "we're out of strawberries" for her salad. What about the other 4 ingredients?? They eventually brought me a new Caesar salad, comped the meals, but my girlfriend never did get her remade salad.... The manager and server were apologetic and we appreciated them comping the meal after without us pushing for it, but the kitchen personnel need to get their act together. I'd rather have paid full price for an enjoyable meal than be comped for the mess we endured. I can appreciate the extra burden COVID has placed on restaurants, but there are lots of others still giving it 110% for our business. Will not be making another reservation here.
Just average though chicken fingers WERE awesome, as advertised.
1st time there and was happy to support local right now. I would return.
Great meal, awesome staff (Jon was great)
Great food! Awesome place to go for a few drinks!
We had called and asked for something specific after they told us yes it was never mentioned again but it was not done. The food was good but took way too long and forgot some of our order as well as some drinks.
Excellent and prompt service- Food was great, felt very secure with level of cleanliness and sanitizing being done-
Great night as always!
Asked to move to a different table (one of 15 empty ones) and was given a hard time for it.
Good to be back but food was less than appealing this time around. Steak was disappointing, undercooked and very tough. Menu options have changed and seems more main streamed and not as unique anymore. Just didn’t feel the same as in past experiences and we were let down this time which was surprising. Thank you though to the manager who gave us 15% off meals, just not sure if we will be back in again any time soon.
We were glad you have opened again and felt very much that the guidelines set were all adhered to. Felt very safe and enjoyed being out again
Perfect! My favorite restaurant! Good food, drinks and atmosphere. Missed it during covid.
Great experience as usual. Absolutely love the steak
One plate came out burnt and another had a bad taste. Prob will be a long time before we return. Not a place for family especially a young family.
Great experience. Food was very good, an excellent server, great beer selection and they even had a deal on bottles of wine. Always enjoy going to Jack's!
At this point based on the food preparation of all 4 of our steaks I would not. We were seated by friendly staff, served by a great young girl named Amy and the service was great. However, here is where things went off the rails. All 4 of us ordered steaks ranging from medium rare to well done. The medium rare steaks was done more to blue, barley even heated. The toppings on the first try was right. On the returned steak is was still not what I would call medium rare. It was pink on one side and cooked on the other and it came with no toppings. The toppings were brought melted on a plate after I requested them.
The well done steak was not well done but almost charcoal the second time. The second medium rare came out more rare then medium. Blood was running and the middle was not heated. The final steak came out the second time close to medium but still had a fair amount of blood running out of it. The appetizers were fine. The drinks were fine. However, they also ran out of sauces for 2 of the 4 of us.
Food and service was just ok. 1 of 6 meals was missed and waitress had to go back looking for it.
The worst service/experience I’ve had in a long time.
They said they didn't have my reservation. But they had room for us so it was okay however now i dont get my points with open table for booking through them.
It was our anniversary and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal
The service was good but the food wasn’t great!! We had a variety of food and was disappointed in just about everything we ordered!! The only thing that was good was the drinks!! We have been customers since the place opened !! Not sure what happened this time!! Going to be a while before we head back!!
