Jack Astor's - Toronto (John St)
In all seriousness, we take real pride in our food. Try our Cluckin’ Fresh Chicken Fingers, made and seasoned with fresh, never frozen chicken tenders. This isn’t run-of-the-mill pub grub. Our Band of Chefs are influenced by a wide variety of tastes and have travelled across the globe to gain inspiration.
But outside of the kitchen, we find it hard to take ourselves seriously. We have an Elvis booth. For no particular reason. Folks, that really does say it all. We’re sports fanatics, music nuts and love a good joke. If you’re into at least one of those things, we should hang out.
Meh. Nothing outstanding. Order was wrong. Not worth the $. So many restaurants in Toronto this one needs a serious menu upgrade.
Appalling in every way. Took 20 mins to have a drink order taken. Food was 40 and showed up cold. A few large groups, but many empty tables so there should be no excuse.
Evening out to show
$19.99 for a smattering of undercooked bowtie pasta, charred, meager chicken portions, served cold, made cooler by waiting 5 minutes for pepper and Parmesan, and for the extra sauce I had to request. C'mon guys that is criminal.
I was very surprised at what a nice ambiance there was at Jack's; I expected the place to be packed and busy, and although we did go on a Tuesday, it was a good quiet, not loud and noisy. It was really nice. Our server was great and attentive to all her tables - as was the other staff there. I would definitely come back to this location - much better for a casual dinner compared to some of the other core locations.
Overall good location and decent food. We had a party of five and would have been better to not have one of us sit on the end since we were in the way of the wait staff. When leaving the welcome staff could smile.
Stopped by before a Leafs game - a little further away than Front St. location, but a lot quieter, with same menu, good beer and very good service.
Original reservation was made for Jack Astors at John St. Done online. Later that day a phone call would bring to my attention of that location being closed for the day of reservation due to construction/repairs. Reservation relocated to Front St/University location. Unfortunately, fire trucks had shown up at time of reservation. Had to immediately find alternate option.
I made the reservation online here at Open Table. But when we got to Jack Astor’s, they were closed for a health code violation! It would have been nice to be notified of this!! We had to walk all over to find a restaurant that didn’t have a wait.
Soup came cold but when I mentioned it to the server it was corrected immediately.
Our server was super nice and attentive! (:
Food was superrr good, I recommend everyone try the lobster dip... omg.
We attended Jack Astor’s for dinner before show. The food was good and the service was excellent.
It was good except the mosquitoes and bugs flying around inside the restaurant.
The service wasn't very good. We never received any utensils or condiments. Our server was hardly at our table and it took awhile for us to find her when we were ready to pay. The seating was also very tight.
The portion size was very small and it took a long time for our dessert and to get our bill. Other than that i enjoyed people watvhing outside, they were able to accomodate food options for me being vegan and they even took off the prive of our dessert off the bill since it took so long.
Food took long to come out and he didn’t apologize for the wait — also didn’t come to check up on us. We didn’t even know his name.
The food was a tab bit cold when it got to our table. But the steak was cooked perfectly and still edible.
Very disappointing experience. Service was very slow. Despite asking for appetizers & childrens meals to be ordered & delivered as quickly as possible, it took 1 hour before any food was delivered -- the young children were beyond restless. When finally delivered, several meals were cold. We were a big group & our server was also serving another big group, but you'd expect that to be factored into the process & it clearly wasn't.
Great service, good food, nice ambiance. Great for before theatre.
Our server was great, the food came quickly and the noise level was bearable. The only negative was one of the hostesses. She misheard me when I came in and brought me to another party's table. Then when she brought me back to the front to our actual table, she mumbled to the other hostess hinting it was my fault; great professionalism....I guess this is what we should all expect from the younger generation. Probably wouldn't go back because of that.
Way too overpriced for what it is
I let the restaurant know in my reservation that we were there to celebrate my boyfriends birthday. The server didn’t let the waitresses upstairs know of this so they did nothing to celebrate. I have had my birthday at jacks before and they would sing and provide dessert. It’s frustrating when you decide to celebrate at a particular restaurant because of the experience you’ve had in the past and they don’t pay attention to the reservation booking and follow through.
Very friendly service. A bit slow but to be expected. Food and drinks were just so-so but again kind of what you’d expect. We enjoyed the patio.
It was a great experience except my order was mixed up with someone else's' order, however, the waitress was quick at fixing it, my original order was just waiting to be served. The food was great, the service was very good as well, we enjoyed the experience and plan to go back there in the future.
The outdoor seating is quite nice, however, I would have preferred an umbrella or a shade to some sort to prevent leaves falling on our food and drinks.
Everything was good and we greatly enjoyed it! :)
Great food and service!! Would defiantly go back if we are in the area again!!
Had a reservation and quickly seated upstairs inside. All was fine, waiter Taylor was very nice, he got water and drinks fairly quickly. But went downhill from there. After 40 minutes of waiting for our food our waiter said so sorry, we are just super busy in the patio. I said then why would be seated upstairs??? Second class??
Then almost an hour later we get our food.
Myself and my co worker ordered the Tuna, Mango, Avocado salad. Issue was NO MANGO OR AVOCADO in the salad.
Tracked down our waiter and asked Taylor/Tyler for a side of both since they missed putting in our salad. His response- OMG- SO SORRY, this is the kitchen chefs first day.
Then 15 min later we are told- did my manager come by? I said no, why? Are you out of MANGOS AND AVOCADOS? Waiter says YES- so sorry.
They took both salads off the bill but the manager NEVER CAME BY- basically never cared.
Sad and I will never eat at Jack Astors again and make it clear to anyone that asks.
They need training and management classes. Hurry! Corporate. Help them out.
They sat us blocking a door to patio when there was multiple empty tables around us and then had to squish behind us multiple times throughout the night to get to customers outside.
I hardly ever dine at chain restaurants, but we went to Jack Astor’s to watch a Raptors Playoff game. My salad had so much dressing that the greens were soggy, and it looked like I had a soup when I was done with it.
Great people and food! Loved the drinks and the food was very good
Our server was wonderful. Exceptional knowledge when recommending spirits and appropriate check ins. The staff were not overbearing and having one continuous server was excellent for the experience. The food was on time and tasted as expected. Excellent ambience in this moderately quiet Jack's location. Recommended and will return. Thank you
The food was good. The kid next to us was spoiled and just a brat so it was very disruptive
Great before a Jays game
Our server was a terrific young man - wish I could remember his name to give him a shout out! He was polite, fun, and took great care of us, making sure we were served with plenty of time to get to the theatre without having to rush. The food came quickly, you could tell it had not been sitting under a heat lamp - nice and hot! I also enjoy the unique plating styles!
Once we arrived there we were told that they had not received our reservation through Open Table at all, fortunately table was available, whose fault is this? Open table to JS?
Nice variety on the menu and great staff!
Service was terribly slow. Waited for over 15 minutes before waiter gave us water and took our order. Waited for another half hour before our meals arrived.
$20 burgers, no tv screens but bar like atmosphere and 45 mins wait for food is unacceptable on a Thursday night. The restaurant was no even busy. No one at the bar. Pretty disappointed.
We found it took some time for the food to arrive. One member of the group requested no goat cheese on her veggie burger, but it came with goat cheese. My salad took a long time to arrive because they were making fresh dressing, but it was proactively removed from my bill. :)
Very good experience ... made a reservation in advance as there were 16 of us. Advised that we were in town for a high school Business Competition at the Sheraton.
They were prepared with a suitable seating arrangement for us all. Food and drinks were great as was the service. We had Drew for our table of 8 ... and the other table had another server. Drew was a agreeable, patient and pleasant server.
Apparently one of my students was able to order a beer at the other table ... which was surprising to me since everyone but me was a high school student.
Thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience and would return again.
Great location (Adjacent to the Scotia Bank Theatres) makes this a GO TO VENUE for the after movie crowd.
Great food and service and a server that was very knowledgeable about Wines
and Food Pairings.
