As always, everything was great. Our server CJ made sure we were well taken care of. He helped us have a wonderful anniversary dinner. The food was fabulous, fresh and timely.
A world class restaurant: food, service, ambiance and view.
Beautiful restaurant and kind waiters. Loved the service and place
Great but super noisy. Had a wonderful view. The filet was perfect. Can’t wait to return.
Excellent wine selection and meal was cook to perfection. Waitstaff was knowledgeable of the wines and helped make a prefect selection for the evening.
As usual, a great dinner and service.
The view is great of the water, there service is great, the tuxedo cake was great, but the food was average (bland and underwhelming)
Made reservations for a late lunch figuring to miss the crowd and be finished in time for a 6:00PM concert. They are very strict about the dress code even for lunch. I get it, their house their rules...don't even think of wearing reefs or similar type footwear. Our service was very very slow. Our waiter knew he was not going to be able to service he would normally and apologized when he took our drink order. He did all he could to make the best of a bad situation. Lunch was over 2 hours long. Food on the other hand was very good. Oysters and Tuna tartar for apps...both very good. The walleye was prepared nicely and was delicious. No time for dessert. We would go back and believing our slow service was an exception. The location on the river front is very nice.
Another fantastic dinner at JM! Huge menu selections, seafood was incredibly fresh and delicious.
Food was delicious, the wait staff was superb, prompt and very knowledgeable on all aspects of the menu and wine list. Specials that evening were interesting combination yet very delicious. The only draw back is we sat fairly close to the piano player, and while he was playing it was very difficult to have conversation at the table. Those around the piano location near us appeared to be experiencing the same difficulty. All in all a wonderful evening though, just a bit quieter when the piano player took breaks. A definite return to location again.
Keith was great! The food was excellent as well as the cocktails. Will definitely return.
Great service. Delicious lobster. Beautiful views. Love the ambiance
Came to town for a visit with the in-laws. And wanted to take the wife out to the brunch than museum. Got to say the view, food and service was great. When I come back, we will have dinner there.
We came for dinner for our anniversary. Our table was ready upon arrival and we were wished a Happy Anniversary from staff. Our waiter (Joe) was knowledgable and friendly.
Our meal was lovely--oysters and a shrimp / crab cake dish for apps. I found the crab cake a wee bit "fishy" Our dinner selection was barramundi for me and crab legs for my husband. The dinner was very good and my husband loved the spices used on his crab leg dinner. I had requested a window table and thats what we got - amazing view !!
We have been to Joe's many times and will return.
The pricing is expensive for us as we are Canadian and are paying 33 cent on the dollar , will still visit for special occasions such as this.
As usual, Joe Muer's was a great night out for our anniversary. We've been going there since the 70's when they were in the old location on Gratiot and were extremely glad when they reopened. Adding the great panoramic views of the Detroit River to the always outstanding food makes it a favorite for our special occasions. It amazes how they can take seemingly ordinary fare and turn it into signature dishes: we've never had anything that was less than "rave" quality. Service has always been impeccable with very upbeat and attentive staff but on this occasion our waiter seemed..... average, not terrible, just ok. I guess we've been lucky to get some great waiters over the years who've made themselves part of the dining experience. Not enough to deter us from continuing to dine there and recommend it to people who ask for our "top pick" for the ultimate in great Detroit dining. Even though it's now an hour away from our new home, it's well worth the trip.
Wonderful service, amazing food and great view! Great attention to detail, a great way to celebrate our anniversary!
This has been a family favorite for close to a century.
Amazing view of Canada, everything was amazing- try the ceviche
Delicious food, awesome service, nice music, great atmosphere. Be prepared because it is pricey. $270 for a party of 4.
S were celebrating a birthday and our waiter was CJ. He was Fantastic and very kind to us.
We were advised of the change in chefs and you could tell a difference all around. We were disappointed with everything from the bread basket to the dessert. Restaurants should not have that drastic of changes when changing chefs, they should be unnoticeable, especially in high end restaurants. Very disappointed and unsure if we are coming back, we are regulars there
Detroit icon as fresh today as it was 90 years ago. Timeless view of Detroit river. Menu has great mix of classic and quirky, all beautifully plated and graciously served. Be prepared to drop some serious change, in my income bracket this limits our visits to special occasions only, but helps to make them extra special.
Great food. Also, I loved the piano during dinner. The waiter was outstanding, it's easy to get to and worth my 35 mile drive.
Joe Muer is a wonderful experience. The food is as good as the original restaurant and there are some new more modern dishes that are great. There is a fantastic view of the river although I was not able to get the window booth I requested.
My oysters Rockefeller were phenominal.
Any concerns I had were rectified by the manager. She had excellent customer service
We were visiting Detroit on vacation. My wife booked at Joe Muer Seafood for a late night dinner. Unbeknownst to me, she arranged it for my birthday celebration as well. At the end of the meal we were brought raspberry sorbet covered in champagne with happy birthday spelled out in chocolate above and below the sorbet dish. Nice surprise ! Would definitely go back when in town, and would highly recommend it for any occasion.
We were visiting Detroit, and remembered how good Joe Muer was from when we lived here. Great Mussells and sliders. And really good wine. And the view. Wow.
So glad we went there. Our last night in Detroit.
Great location. Good service but the food has not kept up with modern dining. Food and menu needs a revamp. Too many other great choices now in Detroit
Everything was great until we started eating out entree’s. My steak was cold and potatoes were on the dry side. My wife’s fish was really dry and bland. Had it not been for our waiter I probably would have paid for the drinks and left. They did offer to remake our entree’s and the second time around it was good. However the damage was done as hour dinner for 2 took almost 4.5 hours.
The view was great and the food was delicious.
The service was very good
There is a dress code for men that is not mentioned on Open Table. Please inquire
This restaurant has always been our family’s favorite for special get togethers. The waiter Wayne was excellent and quite informative. The food was exquisite and presentation top notch. Dessert is always a must. It was a great evening for our family.
After weeks of planning my fiance's birthday I finally narrowed down to Joe Muer Seafood restaurant as she loves seafood. The table booking process was seamless through open table but that was it.
I got a call from the reception a day before the reservation and I confirmed that we'll make it and that we are celebrating my fiance's birthday. We get there at 7 and we were given a table next to where they keep the plates and glasses even though the tables facing the water were completely free till the time we left! I was not happy with this as I had repeatedly requested for a better table. The waiter asked my fiance if it was her birthday and she replied that is was her birthday eve and since we were in Detroit for the weekend we wanted to celebrate earlier. He went on to explain as to how people say it is their birthday when it was not as though we were expecting free food? I was really angry at this point and wanted to leave but I let go of this since the evening was about her.
Lets talk about the food now. The crab appetizer was delicious but the entries were not that great. The crab stuffed fish was too buttery, but the filling was really good.
We were just looking for a quiet dinner at a nice place. I get that this is an upscale place and they cannot let people take advantage of them, but I mean come on you are in the service industry and the customer is the king. I hope you treat other customers well!
We showed up at 830 for a 930 reservation. We sat at the bar to have a drink while we waited. We ordered a dozen mixed oysters at the bar. 10 minutes later the bartender came with oysters but said these aren’t what you ordered, do you still want them? I was a little surprised that the server would knowingly bring an incorrect order to us but I let it slide. The next order came and they were good.
At 925 I check in at the host and they said they would come get me shortly the table was almost ready.
At 940 I checked back in and they were confused saying they had already sat me. They tried to seat us at the first table available but we had been waiting specifically for a patio seat so again we waited.
Within a few minutes we had our seat outside which is where the fun began. We were sat within 3 feet of a party of 7 that was squeezed into a 4 top who were there to party. That’s fine, but not really what the reviews made it seem like the type of place that it was.
Service came, took one drink order and almost walked away before I mentioned I hadn’t placed mine. All the while the party behind me placed a order at the same time. Their drinks came in about 3 minutes. Ours took 10.
Ordered our food. Lobster bisque and calamari for apps, scallops and a special for dinner. Calamari came out first, about 25 minutes later, the bisque needed to be asked for 10 minutes later. Drinks were not refilled.
By this point we had been sitting for at least 45 minutes and we still did not have our entrees. At least the party of 7 at a 4 top had left. We waited some more.
A busboy came and dumped a bucket of ice water into a plant about 2 feet behind my head as if there were no guests there.
Our food finally came but we had enough and asked for it to go.
Really bad experience. Will not be returning to this location or any of the other groups’ locations.
Very nice restaurant. We sat outside overlooking the water. The food was great, drinks were good, I had no complaints.
Great meal and service as usual!!
I've been eating at Joe Muir since the 1970's. Yes, it is expensive but you pay for what you get: Top notch service, attention to detail & fabulous cuisine. The Ren Cen location has valet so it makes the trip to downtown Detroit even easier.
It was pure bliss and celebrated with my sister visiting from AZ. We loved it.
As a native Detroiter who started patronizing Joe Muer as a teenager, I cannot remember having a bad meal there. So glad you are still in Detroit!
I only go to Joe Muer’s when work colleagues choose it. I believe in paying more for quality food but once again the food was underwhelming and overpriced. Today’s beet salad was mostly inedible, something (I suspect the leeks and/or golden beets) had spoiled. The restaurant smells fishy and service is spotty. After dining here for 7 years I continue to be baffled why anyone thinks this place is good.
excellent place to enjoy, share and appreciate good dining......👍
