What Insiders Are Saying
Joe's is consistently one of the best steakhouses in town, and you shouldn't even order steak. Stone crabs are where it's at.
There were 4 of us for dinner and we all ordered different meals. I had the Chilean seabass, my wife the black seabass, a friend crab cakes and another the special fried chicken. Both seabass were excellent and I would order either again. My friend ordered the chicken on a recommendation and he wished he ordered the seafood. Great waiter and very good pairing of the wines with the dinner.
Excellent cuts of meat and excellent service. The seafood is excellent as well. There are no values on the menu which becomes a bit disappointing after multiple times dining here. Someone needs to introduce them to the term “Nightly Specials”!
Food on our recent visit was top notch, as always. The fried asparagus never disappoints. The pumpkin chiffon pie is a nice addition for the fall. Outstanding service from waiter Kevin Barton and maître d' Jim.
Beautiful restaurant with an outstanding staff. The service was great. The food menu has a wide variety of things to choose from which was nice. However, the one thing keeping me from rating this place highly is the food itself was underwhelming.
My wife ordered the seafood platter which had scallops, shrimp, and lobster tails. All were overcooked and lacked seasoning. I ordered the filet mignon and lobster tail. I requested medium rare for the steak but came out medium well. The lobster tail was also overcooked. We also ordered a side of steamed asparagus which was cooked nicely but also lacked seasoning.
We also had the stone crab claws which were delicious. They are served chilled (so no way of being overcooked) and the shells are pre-cracked making it easier to extract the meat. This was easily our most enjoyable dish.
They just need to get the basics down better and this place is easily a 4-5 star.
the food is excellent, good wine list, proper business atmosphere, service could improve.
Although it was packed crowded(we couldnt even get to bar for a drink), we were seated quickly. Dining room is very crowded.
Waitress was awesome, she was attentive yet not overbearing. Sometimes she poured wine and we barely noticed she was there. She also engaged us in conversation when we chose to. Food is always great here. For some reason, it may have been slightly underseasoned this time, yet not a big deal since they leave seasoning on table. Reason for 4 stars on food was starter was just ok(calamari), and sides were average.
It is very expensive, maybe its just the darn Chicago tax.
For an expensive steak house/ seafood restaurant the food was okay; not great. The venue is fairly basic. Service is good except for the wait to get seated. The restaurant is very crowded which I think helps and hurts them. They do not have to be "exceptional" since they are busy. However at the same time they are a high end restaurant that is decent however not exceptional.
Great dining expereince. Will come back again when we visit Chicago.
This is the best service I have had all year at any restaurant including 1/2/3 Michelin star restaurants. Food very good! Could not have improved this meal on any of the fronts. Will be back next trip to Chicago.
Great food and service!
Been coming to Joe’s a couple of times for lunch. They offer a lunch menu and the regular menu, lots of choices.
This time I ordered the fried chicken. Had heard from food critic Steve Dolinsky from Hungry Hound the fried chicken is one of the best! And YES was the BEST chicken I have tasted!
Wow! The best food I have had in a long time ! Everything was so delicious I can’t even explain. So so flavorful - the Dover sole is to die for - macncheese so rich with cheeses. I don’t even like Brussels sprouts but I liked these! And to top it our key lime pie was exquisite. Our waiter Micheal was so friendly and attentive! We don’t usually go to 5 star restaurants so we were shooting in the dark - but we def Reached the stars all 5 stars with this one!
I was disappointed. We drove all the way from St Louis to dine for our 13th wedding anniversary. THey were running behind and we ended up sitting in the bar very crowded and loud with poor rushed service.
I am not sure I will ever return to this location. I have dined several times in Vegas and Miami
I was back after discovering it in 2012. I left then amazed and I was worried to find it changed. It had not changed a bit. Outstanding from top to bottom left to right.
Wonderful experience, great food, great service, will be back when we come back to Chicago!
Great experience and wonderful food. Our server Dave was on point!
Excelente restaurante a lado de Michigan Avenue, el Filete Miñon supremo, buen servicio, aunque demasiadas mesas, no se podía pasar
Birthday dinner for my daughter. It was a Sunday night, and very busy. We were off to the side by a window, so we could talk. It gets pretty congested out in the middle of the floor. Great seafood and steaks. A few decent beers, but a lot of wines to choose from. I've been here before and I'll do it again.
Best restaurant in Chicago. I want to know how they make every bite of food that good. I have NEVER had a bad experience, always walk out saying WOW.
This is one of my favorite restaurants. I come here often. The food is always consistently good.
Good food and service steaks were a little crispy overcooked on the outside but good for the most part.
Extremely loud hard to have a conversation.
Had an amazing time celebrating our anniversary there. The experience was phenomenal.
Every time we come to Chicago we always eat at Joe’s. It’s our favorite!!
Great, iconic restaurant with superb food and over the top service. Always a great time!
If you are a lover of Seafood you shouldn't miss this restaurant - One of the best in Chicago area. Food was fantastic; recommendations from our waiter were very decent and considerate; as it was my husband's birthday, the dessert they offered on the house was also a perfect fit. Management of seats was great; the whole area was neither too packed nor too loud. Definitely would recommend to anyone.
Great seafood. everything from start to finish was wonderful. highly recommend getting 'the whale' as an appetizer. and the crab bisque was the best I've ever had. great lunch menu options including a main, 2 sides, dessert for under $30 typically. extensive wine list as well. highly recommend.
Excelente lugar y delicioso! La pasamos increible!
Love, love, love Joe’s. We eat there every time we visit Chicago. Food and service is amazing. It is an experience!
Perfection. The food was beyond delicious-get the oysters! Service was impeccable. Would highly recommend
Always quality food & service.
Always look forward to Joe’s
Great food and Service. Ask for David!!!!!
This place is a must visit to Chicago!
Outstanding service, food and experience.
Amazing food and good wine recommending
must try: WHALE (assorted sea food appetizer
) & seafood pasta
The service and the food are always consistently great!
I was not disappointed at all... huge portions especially my 24 oz dry aged ribeye steak... pricey but worth the experienced!!! I would like to thank you our waiter he made it very comfortable for us since it was out 1st visit there/Chicago!
Joe's never disappoints. Went there to celebrate my cousin's birthday. We had a drink (excellent dirty martini) at the bar. Dinner was excellent and our waiter, Chris, was awesome!
Had a great meal, with a wonderful server. Everything we ordered, came out fresh and quick and was delicious
My husband and I return each year for our anniversary. Always consistent with the quality food and the service! Cheers! Can’t wait for year 4!!
Our entire party enjoyed the four different entrees that we ordered. The side dishes were also very good!
The service really dampened the evening. She was a C+ at best. Very robotic and no sign of warmth.
