John & Sons Oyster House - Downtown
One of my favourite places in Toronto and the staff are incredible.
Ryan and staff are rock stars.
Food was excellent, service was a little slow but IMO they were understaffed for servers.
Would return again!
Love this little spot in the financial district. It feels like you are in the UK because of the back street and the oyster bar with great fish and chips too. Happy hour from 3-6 pm Monday through Thursday. When I have a bad day or a good day, a glass of bubbly after work with a dozen oysters hit the spot,
Intimate environment, friendly server, very good food!
John & Sons is a great spot for lunch, drinks or dinner. It's a quaint little hidden gem in the downtown core.
We've been here before, and would highly recommend John & Sons to anyone looking for oysters (and a fun night out) downtown. Our dinner this weekend was just about perfect!
Brilliant little place informal and friendly, food was amazing, will be visiting again 👍
Great service and excellent food.
Food and service was great. A little pricey but not unexpected. Had a great night out..
Great food and service. But way overpriced - fish and chips - $26 for two small pieces of fish! My local fish n' chips place has better fish for a fraction of the price.
Beet Salad - again, overpriced for the quantity of food.
Oysters were completely worth the price! Wow!
Aside from a some rude walk-in customers trying to get ahead of a few groups with reservations (us included) everything was wonderful for it being Valentine’s Day and how busy it can get. Our server was knowledgeable about wine and oysters and checked in often. This is definitely going in as one of my favourite birthday dinners because it was delicious and not overly Valentines-y which is why I usually avoid going out on the actual day.
Absolutely wonderful food and service. Quaint restaurant that is comfy. A bit loud as it is a smaller restaurant, but very lovely!
Food was not very good. Scallop risotto was full of onions. Octopus was cold. Ambiance was good and servers were helpful.
Took two friends to John & Sons Oyster House Tuesday night. We truly enjoyed ourselves. The restaurant had just the right amount of lighting, great music just loud enough that we could talk without having to shout, and the service was amazing too! Maria served us and she was super friendly and professional. And finally for the highlight of the night Ryan served us our Oysters. That man knows his Oysters and not only he offered us a great variety, he was also able to deliver exactly what we ordered and exceeded our expectations. Simply put, Best Oysters we’ve ever had!!!
Lovely slice of the east coast in the heart of downtown Toronto. I go here when I'm craving high quality comfort food. Reminds me of Halifax. Not an Oyster fan but everyone I've brought there says they're amazing.
Have enjoyed every dish the fish dishes immensely! Generous portions.
Made a reservation and got seats by the bar. I was expecting to get one of the tables as the booking was done days in advance. Food and service were great.
The service was excellent and very accommodating for dietary restrictions. It was a nice find.
Amazing food experience would come here again, one best restaurants in Toronto.
Excellent food and service. Was extremely loud at lunch-we we’re basically yelling by the end of the meal.
Food was delicious. Server was friendly and offered good suggestions.
The place can be very noisy. But the food and service are good. Their oysters selection is very good. For sure will go back!
Fab food in a gem of a place tucked down a side street in Toronto close to the Eaton Centre. They specialise in fish dishes but have other options too. It's quite a small place so definitely recommend booking to avoid disappointment. Would definitely recommend the tuna 'sandwich' between two slices of beef tomato in panko crumb, sounds odd, tastes terrific.
Can't say enough about how courteous and friendly the staff were. They were professional and welcoming. The ambiance was perfect. Oysters were wonderful, the smelts were a treat and the lobster poutine was just what we were craving. The fish and chips were crispy too. Can't wait to return and look forward to their Happy Hour. I'm just ashamed that it took me so long to finally visit this spot!
Considering it was New Years Eve and we arrived in Toronto in the late afternoon and looking for a place to have dinner we were highly surprised to find this gem in Toronto.
Going on line and looking for a seafood place and other "Brand-name"places were booked out we were not sure what to expect when we booked on line.
But what a great place. The waitress was outstanding, polite, friendly, talkative and personal. We loved talking to here and she took her time. We met the bartender which was also very friendly. They explained us the different wine and food specials.
We had a selection of oysters, the lobster poutine and chowder soup. All of it was outstanding.
For the main course we had the tuna and the scallops. Fabulous taste and great presentation. We loved it.
The place is in a little side street and was hard to find behind all that construction that is going on. But is very intimate, quite so you can have a good conversation and nicely set up with the bar layout and the tables around it. Everything you are looking for for a nice time out.
We highly recommend this place.
By the way we also had dessert. Brownies and a cheese platter.
One of the best places ever we had dinner.
Too lightly staffed for a Saturday night, waitress was alone and in the weeds, she did the best she could
Birthday - it was superb!!!
One of my favorite pre-game or post- game spots. Always able to accommodate a reservation. Great food especially the oysters. And best of all the staff - knowledgeable, friendly, very efficient etc. Went with a client who is also a foodie and he was impressed as well. Keep up the good work. CF
Great location for end of work food and drinks, fresh seafood, good wines
Obviously going for oysters and they never disappoint. Always a good selection. Other food is great too. A little short-staffed the night we went but it was Monday so they might not have expected the crowd.
Food and service were absolutely fantastic! 3 of us decided to share a number of apps and a couple dozen oysters paired with a nice cava. All the apps were outstanding, I don't know if I could pick a favourite. The oysters were a good size, great quality, and delicious sauces/vinegars to pair with. I'll be back to try out the rest of the menu!
The food is consistently wonderful. Fresh and very tasty. This place is a favourite of mine. The octopus appetizer is amazing!!!
Lovely lunch with wine. Service was great, shout out to Mint Cake for personable service and great attitude.
Best Tuna BLT ever! and the staff always remember who you are and treat you like family.
Consistently excellent food and experience. Thank you John! Libby
Girl’s night out. Perfect!
We love John & Sons!
It is always so good.
The food is reliably wonderful - fresh oysters, ssam, fish also wonderful are the tacos, scallops and if not feeling the seafood, they have a great steak frites!
Wine list is a great selection at reasonable prices.
Oysters are definitely on the pricey side at $3.75/each but the accompanying mignonette was delicious! Other food was good too - tuna tartare and octopus lovely. Fish tacos were so-so, shells were cold, overall looked better than it was. All that said, the service was fantastic!! Great special night out w Hubbie. On the pricey side for just a regular night out in my opinion.
Fresh delicious seafood. Loved the clam chowder and fish tacos.
Food was amazing - had the oysters, octopus, tuna and the daily special! Space is cozy and intimate - will definitely go back!
