In 1882, Abraham Staab, a European immigrant who became one of Santa Fe’s most prosperous merchants, built a Victorian mansion on property that now belongs to La Posada. Abraham’s elegant wife, Julia, entertained local society and visiting dignitaries in incomparable style. Legend has it that Julia so loved her home that she has never left it.

Today, we celebrate Julia Staab as our muse and honor her name and legendary hospitality with the opening of Julia, A Spirited Restaurant & Bar. The restaurant features innovative, locally sourced dishes as well as an extensive selection of fine wines and spirits.

    The cocktails and wait staff were wonderful! I had the half chicken which was under roasted and the sides tasted like they were from frozen and jars. My wife had the beet salad which had too much dressing and didn’t seem fresh and crisp. The patio area was a great space for the meal and the cocktails were excellent! Go for the ambiance and cocktails, but skip dinner.

    We recently had a lovely dinner at Julia's. We sat outside which was delightful in terms of both ambience and noise level. The food was both tasty and well presented. It's still well-kept secret, and I sort of hope it stays that way.

    Initially, we started at the outside bar area and had good service, the margaritas were excellent. Then we moved to the restaurant. We waited about 10 minutes for them to decide who would wait on each table- clearly understaffed. Then we ordered a bottle of white off the menu and after awhile was told they had no cold white wine. Tried a red blend- not in stock. Didn't have items on menu. Street tacos were desert dry. Hoped to like this place since we are guests at hotel. Very disappointing.

    We ate indoors. The restaurant is not too utilized and the feeling was that management little to make the indoors inviting. But, the food was fabulous. Super choices and delicious seasoning and plating. Cocktails were great and the wine choices very nice. The service was slow, I think that’s because we were indoors. The patio was more lively and better attended to. We highly recommend this experience.

    Something was amiss when we arrived as they had no record of our reservation. That turned out to not be a problem, even on a Friday night. We were given dinner menus and just as we were about to order, informed that they did not have 3 of the 7 dinner entrees. Ultimately, ordered off the lunch menu. Food was average, nothing special. Disappointing…

    My husband & I enjoyed a lovely, relaxing dinner at Julia's. The food & drinks were all delicious. We ordered a Juliarita & an Old Fashioned before dinner; both were excellent. For dinner I had the beet & goat cheese salad & grilled Branzino with an excellent Albarino wine; my husband ordered the corn chowder & the beef filet with a Pinot. We both had pistachio ice cream for dessert. Julia's inside seating area is fairly small, but their outside seating area is located on a large patio. Tables have umbrellas & the area is beautifully landscaped with a fireplace. Our waiter was very experienced & helpful. I initially picked a He offered excellent suggestions o

    This spot could really be great. It features a beautiful old room and friendly service. But the price point is just simply too high for the quality of the food. In fact, we watched three tables leave after the saw the prices on the menu. Almost all main dishes were over $50 per plate. If the actual meal was great, we would have been fine with the price but it just wasn't. I had the brazino and my husband had the lamb shank. Both were just fine, not particularly good nor bad. At this price point, it is time for a new chef and a few more perks, such as bread with your appetizer/salad.

    We chose Julia's for three reasons: 1 - It was on Open Table. 2 - It was walking distance to where we were staying. 3 - The menu(s) looked appealing. (we were presented two menus to order from) For a May week night it turns out we didn't really need a reservation. There were only three other tables and it was quiet. Fatima, our server, was knowledgeable and attentive. I enjoyed the grilled Caesar salad which was actually topped with anchovies! Loved it. I also had the lamb shank. It was huge, delicious and the meat fell off the bone. There was plenty to share with my husband who added the meat to his Pork Belly mac-n-cheese. All of our portions were large, with plenty to take home. Wanting a post dinner cocktail we headed to the bar at Julia's, only to find it closing. We wandered the property and into the Staab House bar where we found a lively crowd and a great vibe. Highly recommend.

And once you're inside, you'll be greeted by warm and professional staff who are dedicated to making your experience unforgettable. During our visit, we were lucky enough to be seated next to a cozy fireplace, adding to the warm and relaxing ambiance created by the exposed wood and beautiful architecture. But the real star of the show was the food and drink. We started off with a jalapeño cucumber margarita that was expertly crafted with the perfect balance of flavors. For our entrees, we opted for the rosemary roasted half chicken and bacon-wrapped fillet mignon with black truffle mashed potatoes and mole sauce. Both dishes were cooked to perfection and bursting with flavor. And for dessert, we indulged in the pecan caramel cheesecake, served with fresh fruit and whipped cream. It was the perfect way to cap off an unforgettable meal. But what really set Julia apart was the exceptional service. From the bartender wishing us a happy anniversary to our server Karel going above and beyond to make the night extra special, we felt truly taken care of from start to finish.     The menu given at the restaurant was different and much pricier than the menu shown on its website. Also the beet salad had very thin slices of beets. Disappointing. We will not return.

    Had a big lunch, so we both had Caesar salads - mine with chicken. Enjoyed the grilled romaine and really good chicken and Parmesan cheese. Very quiet, nice ambience.

    Good food, great atmosphere/space, and the staff were very nice. If there is one thing in my mind that could really make it better, however, was just the service flow. The staff were very nice, but a drink order was wrong, our check was wrong (we just paid it instead of trying to fix it) by a drink, water was never refilled until we asked at the end, and food came out at wildly different times (4 people got theirs together and 2 others waited probably 10 minutes). All little things, but things that seem easily fixable.

    Julia's did not honor our reservation. After making the OpenTable reservation I called the restaurant to confirm because I had suspicions about the reservation being honored over the holiday, but the phone was not answered. I received a call from an unknown number 1/2 hour before the reservation, and since I was away from my phone I did not see it. No message was left. We arrived at the restaurant and were told there was "a problem with the food", they were not accepting anymore customers. After looking at the menu, it appeared that Christmas dinner prices were much higher than what was advertised on their web site and OpenTable. A very poor experience overall.

    Totally average across the board. Not a huge menu- they were out of 2 vegetarian options that night. Everything was perfectly fine, but nothing special. It was nice and quiet- so we could all contribute to the conversation. Good place to go if you are with hearing impaired guests.

    The waiter initially was good. However, as more patrons were seated, he totally disregarded our table. We ended up dining for over 2 hours. I believe that the restaurant lost alot of money because of poor service. My husband tipped him well because it was Thanksgiving. Recommend that restaurant manager take a look at this guy and train him better. Food was okay.

    Our overall experience for dinner was definitely poor with most of that rating due to the food. Let me say that this is the first time we have dined here so I don't have any comparison. Perhaps it was just a bad night for the chef but the buffalo and the ribeye steaks were not flavorful at all. Not what i would expect from a fine dining restaurant where the meals are priced at $35+. The meat that we had was chewy and, again, did not have great flavor. Perhaps it was the sauce or combination of sauce and prep. I will say that the waitress was Five Star and brought a very nice positive energy to the evening. Also, the restaurant provided a complementary dessert since it was a birthday outing. Also, I commend the management for reaching out to us due to our negative experience and did the right thing by comping our meal. I cannot say whether you should try this restaurant or not based on our experience, but wanted to share out experience.

    Soup was much too spicy to consume, and I’m accustomed to somewhat spicy food. Room was nice. Service was sufficient. Main course was well below my expectation, and the last time I had food there, perhaps 2 years ago.

    We chose this restaurant based on the menu on Open Table. The one presented was extremely limited and not worthy of the price, reviews, and supposed acclaim. When we arrived, the room wasn’t ready yet. The crew seemed to be very young and ill prepared. We sat by the fire that was not lit. Numerous staff would return to try to get it going through our entire meal. As we left, it finally was burning. Our waitperson started putting candles on the table as we were eating our entrees. We and the only other table with patrons didn’t get candles. Also, most of the tables were not set. There were no tablecloths. Just bare brown laminated tables with red napkins and a fork and a knife placed on top. But what was most bothersome was the limited menu. We choose one fine restaurant in Santa Fe to eat at each time we visit and with our first choice not yet re-opened, we opted for this one based on the menu on Open Table and the reviews. If I saw the menu I was presented this evening, we would have never chosen this restaurant. The vegetables were just steamed, no spices or anything with any imagination. My steak was prepared well and my partner’s scalloped potatoes were good. But that’s it. The staff giggled and talked loudly behind the wall that was within earshot of our table. They were having a great time, but filling water glasses, picking up finished plates, and getting our tab were issues. I suppose when you’re located in Downtown Santa Fe in a high end hotel, you can charge these prices. But we will never return. I am so disappointed we spent our one night here.

    Food was extremely salty and also overpriced. We had the salmon, scallops and Osso busco. I regret choosing this among all amazing restaurants. We did eat our food because it took so long to arrive and we weren’t up for sending it back.

    Although I found the dishes I ordered fairly tasty (osso buco and lobster mac n’green chile cheese), I found the prices really high! To me, it was not a good value outing, unfortunately. Service and ambiance were fine.
