Phenomenal meal, beautifully presented and served.
Everything was delectable. I would go back with each season's new, highlighted ingredients, but after tax/tip/sake, my bill was $400 for two, and that's too high to do more than once in a blue moon.
This place is magical. The plating is art, the dishes are so unique and delicious, the whole experience is unforgettable. My fourth visit and I look forward to returning.
I have been coming to Kajitsu for years and booked a dinning room table and instead got seated at the bar which is exactly where I did not want to seated. The host was rude, robotic and very cold and unsympathetic, the opposite to the level of service Kajitsu in the past. The food is still incredible but the service is poor and leaves you not wanting to go back
Fantastic! 5 star experience all around.
I used to enjoy coming here and eating by myself in serenity. That is a part of point of eating Buddhist vegetarian food.
I understand noise level necessarily goes up with all the tables fully booked but two bigger parties-4 and 5 people respectively- each had a very loud talking lady. The dining room was unbearably noisy. I couldn’t hear my husband sitting across from me.
I don’t think I’m particularly sensitive to noise but it’s the level beyond I can enjoy eating anything, much less Buddhist cooking.
It’s great to see people have good time over good food but this isn’t a pizza joint. I miss having reasonably quieter environment to enjoy Shojin food.
We highly recommend this place. The food is great if you like shojin Japanese cuisine ... all vegetarian. We have been here many times and enjoy our meals every time. The staff is attentive and helpful. They will take you though every course and describe what you are eating and it meaning in Japanese culture.
One of the best meals I ever had, also the most fascinating, so much to culinary nerd out about. Service was beyond exceptional. Be prepared to eat, it will be a lot of food. All too delicious not to finish. The tea pairing was also great, the rimpo tea was one of the best teas I ever drank ever.
Too many bland courses. Repetition of ingredients. A few courses were good but non were memorable. Dining room and ambience disappointing. Very poor value for money.
Very interesting new experience! Tempura chestnut was mind blowing
Every single entry was very good.
It was too much of one theme.
When it comes to an “Onakage” meal, it should be like a well planned “concert” as a whole instead of a “competition” of entries. I felt as if J was at a competition event that I had to listen to a dozen of talented performers playing the same exact required piece. In other words, too many miso tastes that killed each other. Too many of the same key and pitch.
I felt as if a dozen chefs competed in cooking something and served them all, instead of one director created the whole show.
Food, service and overall experience was excellent. Vegan restaurants often cannot live up to the hype but not here, terrific and special food with wonderful service.
The sheer variety of flavors and textures experienced at Kajitsu make it memorable. For those Omnivores wary of the all-veg menu, fret not as the sheer variety you are presented with has you forget that meat was ever even a consideration. While the mastery of technique was evident, not all the flavors were equivalent in their reception. My companions and I thoroughly enjoyed our time at Kajitsu.
Amazing hospitality and wonder presentation!
I’d highly recommend this place for any occasion.
We definitely will come back to try all seasonal food.
Thank you very much !
A very authentic and elegant meal. We thoroughly enjoyed it.
So yummy!!!! Amazing amazing amazing in every way. A must!
Amazingly creative food and top notch service. The atmosphere is quiet with a mix of formal and more casual dress. Really perfect for any kind of special small event.
It was as wonderful as remember it and was happy to introduce a friend to such fine food and relaxing ambiance.
An incredible dining experience, from welcome through farewell. Every dish was prepared with such care and respect to our enjoyment. Thank you so much!
Kajitsu was an outstanding experience! Each course was fantastic as was the tea and saké paired with it. The staff was sweet and knowledgeable. My wife and I can’t wait to return!
Amazing!! Loved it. The tea pairing was great too. Highly recommend!!
I was so excited to eat this incredible food at such a beautiful restaurant! The staff is amazing and the experience was so rich!
Amazing food, service, every detail was perfect. I already bought the book!
Loved it! If you’re looking for a unique dining experience that is plant-based friendly - this is it!
Left the table very full and happy.
A perfect meal - delightful, delectable, beautiful. Highly recommended. Very impressive. Perfect for vegans, vegetarians and omnivores alike.
Kajitsu is amazing!! The food is aesthetically beautiful and the combination and texture of the food tastes amazing!!! The food creations are so unique and stunning. I highly recommend this place.
The food was amazing, service attentive as expected, but they need to work on pacing. We were seated 30 minutes after our reservation time, and the first course didn’t come out for nearly another 30 minutes. I would have been ok with the late seating if they had an ala carte menu, however this is a set omakase menu so they should be able to better time service. All in all we were at the restaurant for 2 hours and 45 minutes for a 14 course menu (including dessert). I would come again when they have their timing corrected.
Remarkably prepared vegan Japanese dishes though it’s unlikely anyone would miss a meat dish. Superb service and attentive care. Delicious
This is an Experience! The best meal I have ever had. The traditional Japanese flavors are brought out with amazing skill and practice, and are complimented by the atmosphere and impecabile service. I found the sake and tea pairing to be worth the extra, and the way the drinks complimented the food was mind blowing. I would absolutly recomend Kajitsu if you enjoy traditional Japanese flavors and appreciate the artisty kaiseki requires.
Please respect the dress code! It does distract from the experience when someone walks in with athleisure and a baseball hat.
I will return to try the a la cart menu.
The staff was wonderful, knowledgeable, and gentle, contributing to the relaxing ambiance. Each course of our omakase meal was a feast for the eyes as well as the palate. It was more than a meal, it was an experience. We also paired our meal with the sake pairing which was fantastic. The beauty of the dinnerware was part of that visual feast. True culinary artistry for their cultural roots. I can't wait to experience this again - in a different season! One suggestion: a printed menu of ingredients would be fun for a dining reference - although it is given at the beginning of each course, you're overwhelmed by the beauty of the dish in front of you and it's all forgotten!
Had great experience.
12 different delicious generous courses which were beautifully presented.
The best Shojin cuisine in Manhattan
We had the most amazing culinary experience! The tasting menu was prepared and presented flawlessly. The serving staff spent time explaining the dishes, how they were prepared and even the best way to eat. Highly recommend for any special occasion!
I cannot express how much I love this restaurant. For me, every dinner here feels like a vacation from NYC. The details keep bringing me back, whether is the gorgeous flowers, decorations, ceramic or simply the utensils; every detail is noteworthy. If you fancy fine dining and have yet to visit Kajitsu, book a reservation now!!
This is my favorite restaurant in nyc for a reason! I’ve been coming here for a couple years and tonight’s meal was the best so far!! Ever evolving and ever improving this is a restaurant worth a visit or maybe a few :) I feel like their portioning and pacing is brilliant, some tasting menus at other restaurants I feel either hungry or stuffed afterwards, but at kajitsu I find myself leaving perfectly satisfied. The chef is an incredible thoughtful, talented, and sweet person. If you’re planning on parting with 125$ I hope you part ways with it at Kajitsu and have a fine day!!!
Kajitsu is one of the best restaurant experiences I had in my life. The food is a true enhanced sensory experience and the service is friendly and respectful without overdoing it. Thinking about going every change of the seasons.
Excellent experience from greeting to salutations, the food was fantastic, elegant and delicious
There seem to be two kinds of reviews for Kajitsu:
1) Those from people who like veggies and can't believe how good this food is;
2) Those from people who don't taste it.
I'm a "1" and feel sorry for the "2s."
This is one of the most remarkable places I've ever eaten. Needless to say, we plant to go back, especially since they change the menu every month!!
As to recommending it to a friend? I would to a "1" but who needs to hear it from people who don't appreciate the flavors and textures of supremely fresh veggies!!!
