Would not recommend or return! Over priced and extremely limited menu with extremely slow service.
Everything about our experience was phenomenal. Excellent service, excellent food, excellent ambiance. I highly recommend for anyone looking g for a truly Aditondack experience!
We had a wonderful time at Kanu. The room we ate in was beyond beautiful. It was rustic and cozy and decorated for the holidays. The fireplaces in the room were kept blazing and were maintained by a person that I saw check the fire at least 3 times during our dinner. The service was impeccable and the food was excellent.
Excellent ambiance. Service was outstanding as was the special holiday menu + wine paring!
The menu was very different than what us posted online. It is way overpriced for mediocre food. Very slow service. We would not recommend dining there , not with so many great options available in lake placid.
We were there for our anniversary and we had a wonderful evening. staff was very accommodating, food was excellent , atmosphere phenomenal. we’ll be back again next year if not sooner! Kresta, our server, was fabulous!
Phenomenal dinner and our waitress was wonderful. It was a great time to celebrate my husband’s birthday.
Food and service was excellent. Beautifully decorated for the holidays... server was excellent with our special needs daughter making her feel at home and part of the experience... thank you!!
Food, service, and ambiance exceeded already elevated expectations! Family loved it!
Beautiful. From food, to service, to ambiance. We can't wait to come back.
Anniversary celebration ~ two dinners 7 two breakfasts at Kanu while staying at the Whiteface Lodge. Dinners were fabulous. Breakfast buffet needs to keep foods warmer. Staff is proficient and friendly. Atmosphere is perfect for the season.
The restaurant is rustic and elegant. Very nicely decorated for the holidays. The food was excellent to very good - very satisfied and worth it. Jenny was our server and she was outstanding - she is not robotic - very laid back yet professional and very pleasant, fun (and funny), and accommodating - she is a 5 star server because of the aforementioned. This is a wonderful place to venture if you want an awesome dining experience.
Beautiful atmosphere but the food was just so-so. Small menu, and nothing was spectacular considering the prices. The view at mirror lake was much better service and food.
Great atmosphere to be around, staff is great. But food is subpar. There isn’t a lot of choices and for the items you pick the price is not worth it at the end
We have dined at Kanu a number of times prior and had an enjoyable experience. The pass two times were terrible . We were sat down at the table and the server disappeared for a half an hour. The menu usually has many delicious options. This time it was difficult to find anything that sounded appetizing. When our entrees were served they were lukewarm at best and came out with a side dish of shoe string fries… “Are you kidding me”?
Our anniversary dinner was awful.
We celebrated our 6th Anniversary as our reception was here in 2015. Request for table in front of fireplace was granted. Food was excellent and Server was amazing. Great evening that brought back so many memories. Kanu is absolutely gorgeous!
Absolutely beautiful restaurant. Service was ok for a not-so-busy evening. Food was a disappointment. Burned brie and fig appetizer. Average main course. Small meal and expensive.
Kanu is a stunning room to dine in. It hits all the Adirondack marks being massive and cozy all at once. I struggle to connect "fine dining" with no dress code to accompany it. I also struggle to connect "fine dining" to a menu that is almost identical to the hotel bar lunch and dinner menu.
Overall, Kanu is a lovely experience but I would label it resort dining, not fine dining.
If you have dietary restrictions (I'm VG/GF), you will struggle here. I arrived at the resort hungry on Friday night and left hungry on Sunday morning, barely eating the whole weekend and the things I did eat, I shouldn't have. There is no breakfast for you if you are V/DF.
The food was over priced for what we received. I generally don’t mind paying for great food. The ambiance was definitely the draw. The fires were very nice and the room was beautiful. Great atmosphere. Food was mediocre.
Food and experience was excellent!
Food was decent but prices are crazy and the menu is small. Entrees were cold. Wine prices are actually reasonable for bottles. Beautiful atmosphere. Closes early.
Excellent dining experience. I would recommend going to this restaurant at least once during your stay at the White Face Lodge, and maybe twice!
Loved the ambiance. Service was not great and very small portions for the cost. For a hi end place hot cocoa after dinner was hot water and powdered cocoa. Made reservation and indicated celebrating a birthday and staff never acknowledged it. Very disappointing .
This is rated as a high end restaurant but I found this not to be true. The menu is very limited. I have a dietary restriction and was told that there was nothing on the menu that could be modified to meet that restriction (dairy). After much debate and back and forth they prepared a fish dish. When it arrived it had cheese (dairy) shredded over the top of it. I would have thought this would have been caught after all the discussion. The quality of the food was not great even after receiving my dinner. The location is beautiful and the staff was working hard. There were very long waits and we didn't see our server until the end of the meal. I would not recommend this establishment to a friend.
My husband and I are newlyweds and went to Lake Placid for our mini moon. I was looking for a romantic restaurant for one of the days we were there and found Kanu. The food and service were amazing and the atmosphere was incredible! As soon as you pull up to Whiteface Lodge you are in awe. Our evening spent at Kanu felt like a dream. It is a must see and we will definitely be going back!
Fabulous meal in a wonderful Adirondack inspired setting.
We had a small anniversary celebration and were delighted in every way!
This is a beautiful restaurant in lovely hotel with a great mountain ambiance. The food was delicious and the servers very accommodating. We read some of the negative reviews about the slow service but I'm glad we went anyway...everything was wonderful.
Atmosphere was very nice. Unfortunately the food did not match. Lamb pie was very bland. My husband’s pork chop was large but not cooked fully. Prices were high for a non appetizing meal.
We had a phenomenal experience at Kanu. Friendly and attentive service, delicious seasonal food with perfect portion sizes, and quintessential Adirondack ambience. It was our first time dining at Kanu but won’t be our last!
the menu is not creataive ,very limited and no specials.
DONT BOTHER!! Horrible is a compliment for this restaurant. While On vacation in Lake Placid we visited here. The food was awful, tasteless, without effort whatsoever. AND an hour passed between appetizer and main course !! AND the waitress gave no explanation. AND it was freezing and the heat was turned off prematurely. Two massive fireplaces in the main sitting area were NOT LIGHTED which explained the general mood of the place , which was NO EFFORT TO PLEASE .
We’re staying at the lodge last few days and finally got a reservation for Kanu. We were somewhat disappointed to find that the menu was almost identical to the sister restaurant on the property peak 47.
Price creates expectations. In this case, the stellar expectations created by the pricing were not met. The "tomahawk" pork chop was very good, but not outstanding, and the beet tartare was very average. The salmon was also well prepared and fresh. The sauce was average and the overall presentation was average. Same with the halibut.
The wine was also a bit overpriced, but the price is supported by the ambiance, which was excellent. The service was very good, but not the same as Per-Se in NYC, or even The View locally
Great food and service. Made us feel special. Best NY Cheesecake I’ve ever had.
A real pleasure dining at Kanu (and the bar the night before). The servers never stopped for a second. Very hard working crew. Kudos to Tiffany tonite. Bread is a winner to start. Good bread goes a long way. Ok- Caesar was fine. Sized to share. Steak frites (a filet mignon w/ a potato thing) was very good. Halibut very good. Berries for dessert a real plus. ONLY PROBLEM - the crab and artichoke dip app is one of the worst things I have tasted. So bad it should come off the menu. Immediately. For $19 they could certainly come up with a few better appetizers. Did I mention I HATED the crab and artichoke dip?
Had a very enjoyable dinner there last night. The food was delicious and the service excellent.
Halibut was dry and tasteless. Vegetable plain no seasonings pasta was
Just okay . defenitely not a 4 star restaurant as
Of last night
There was no salad, and no dessert menu nor dessert tray. 4 people $400 plus tab,
I felt the dinner was small, & incomplete and we left hungry. I dont mind paying alot for anything, but this wasnt worth it.
