My main dish of sole was cold and raw. it was very disappointing for the previous dishes were delicious. I sent it back and the second time around was even more disappointing because there was one tiny piece of fish on my plate the size of my ring finger. The rest of the dish was carrots.

This restaurant has won many awards, it has always been a place we felt proud to take your friends too!! We had not been there for dinner since the change of Chefs. I was embarrassed by the presentation (or lack of) and the food was nothing special (really not good!). Sorry to say we won't go back!

Me and my fiancé spent our valentines dinner here. We ordered the Valentine's Day for course special and an hour and a half later we still hadn't received our main course yet. I then told the waiter to cash out and I would just pay for the food I ate and they couldn't seem to figure that one out.

There were four of us. We have been to this restaurant several times before. This visit was disappointing. The quality of the food and service has deteriorated since our last visit. Two had the Caesar salad as an appetizer and had the same complaint, that the salad was not very flavorful. One had the onion soup, which was not hot enough and not adequately seasoned. Two of the entrees were disappointing in that they were overcooked. In in all, the service was slow and not attentive. We expected better and will not return until we hear that the restaurant has improved.

This used to be a very nice restaurant with good food. My last visit was less then adequate. No wine list? You are at the mercy of what the waiter will bring ( some lame story about Valentine Day). Food not very good. Boneless short rib was boneless, but full of gristle. A far cry from the original Bastide.

This was our third visit, second time for dinner. Three in our party, myself included had the trout, and it was excellent. Great dessert menu as well, where my wife and I shared the mousse. I had the riesling, which was a solid complement to the trout. Service was good, meal was better, and I like the fact that the restaurant didn't get noisy, enabling easy conversation. We'll be back.

I love the Frenchy food at this bistro. However, I went on a Monday night with a long time foody friend who had never been and they were out of everything we really wanted ... especially the mussels! Even the charcuterie platters were compromised first by an old menu and then being out of something! Almost as bad as being out of mussels, they were out of Sancerre!!! SO, this bistro lost out on a much bigger tab that we would have racked up and instead of being raving fans telling everyone about it I suggest you call in advance after looking at the menu online to make sure they have what you want. The waiter was largely unapologetic too and didn't compensate us in any way for the HUGE inconvenience since I'd been bragging about the mussels, the cheeses and meat trays, the Sancerre, and all the other things I wanted but they were out of that night. The waiter's response was that Mondays are tough because they get their food shipments on Tuesdays so we should plan to come back on a Tuesday. Geez. If the mussles weren't so awesome I'd write this place off. Instead, I will call ahead because the mussels really are worth it.

Do not eat at this restaurant on a Monday--they are provisioned on Tuesdays, and run out of entrees before they are restocked. The food was mediocre and overpriced. Service was good, and we enjoyed the ambiance. About the only game in town (Scripps Ranch).

Having eaten at La Bastide since the first week they opened for a total of maybe 200 times I am sad to say that the place has lost my loyalty. I had lunch there a couple of weeks ago and while the food and service was above average the kitchen did not have one of menu entree items and two of the desserts--we found out only upon ordering. Last Monday night was a disaster-one waiter/bartender and one bus boy/food runner----really??? Waited 25 minutes for a wine we ordered only to find out they were out. Ordered a 2nd bottle, they were out. I felt bad for Anthony but come on. At least put on a busboy who is of age so he can run backup and serve wine. The owner Victor needs to pay attention and return this place to a true functioning bistro.

Very long wait without restaurant being crowded; had to ask twice for bread while waiting over 30 minutes after food ordered. They were out of both specials, which is, apparently, a not uncommon problem. Food when we got it was good, but pricey.

We have been loyal customers of La Bastide since it opened. Sadly, we are now looking for a different restaurant to go to. There has been a slow decline since the original owner sold it. On the last 3 visits the food has been poor. This is so disappointing as we used to enjoy eating there so very much.

The food is so delicious and the chefs make such tempting dishes that the King of France, if he was still around, might serve them to his guests. It is also a great place to take your time enjoying your meal as you have long conversations with your friends and family. We have been going here for over a decade, and despite the tides of change (new owners, etc.) we find that the essence has remained.

I have been to La Bastide many times and felt it was perfect for a date night. When seated we received a lot of attention from all waitstaff, except our official waitress. We didn't realize this would be a problem until 20 minutes later and we were thirsty. Date night, so no rush, ok. Then drinks and bread appetizer. Then another bread. Can we order???? We finally ordered, told no other options but what was on special menu. After ordering, we heard other waiter tell someone there was a lobster not on menu! I would have liked that!!Bummer. You got a choice of salad for an appetizer then a main with a salad? Did we think this through? We rcvd 2 more breads and watched as other people rcvd meals before us. I'm feeling full from bread. Our meal comes out. Looks good, its luke warm. My husbands potatoes were cold inside. Everything over salted. Dessert was ok. May not go back. I think it was our waitress, who seemed busy, but I'm not sure, but I think she had 1 other customer.

The food was delicious but my husband has a nut allergy and we told our waiter who wrote the situation on the order. Our food came with walnuts! Luckily we discovered it before he ate any of the walnuts. A new dish was prepared but arrived when we were ready to leave. We ended up taking the food with us and no compensation was given. This was disappointing as it's in our neighborhood but will think twice before returning.

We've been to this restaurant regularly since it first opened and always enjoyed it. This time we were disappointed as the food was way below the usual high standard. One of us had the quiche - the pastry in the center was under-done and soggy while the outer edge was over-done and very hard and dry. The fries looked and tasted like left over old ones barely warmed over and had to be returned to the kitchen. This was not what we expect and based on today's experience we would not recommend La Bastide to others. We hope for a return to previous quality in future or we'll start going elsewhere. This was a big let-down.

In the past 25 years since I returned form living in Marseille, I have been a fan of the delicious fish stew called Bouillabaisse. It is so garlicky and rich with fish soup flavors...a real experience. BUT..I have ordered it at least 5 times and each time there is a major problem Usually it becomes "our version" of Bouillabaisse..which looks and tastes like Ciopino..very tomato and a watery broth. At la Bastide, the chef looked and found a recipe which included Pernod and Lavender. I thought these might be subtle flavors which would add to the experience. No..it was anisette flavored fish which is totally inedible! Sadly, I ate 1/3 of the meal and then had to give up since the sweet licorice taste was destroying the whole experience. IT was like chocolate sauce and whip cream on a steak. The foie gras mousse was delicious and the cheese selection was delightful with a glass of port for dessert. My two friends enjoyed their dinners...and I left wondering if I would ever enjoy a delicious Bouillabaisse again before I returned to Marseille. Brian at "Liaison" made the BEST fish soup ever...but he closed his doors over 10 years ago....Any suggestions?

This is the third time that I have been to La Bastide Bistro - twice for lunch and once for dinner - and each time the food and service have been excellent. This time around, I was with a group of 6 for lunch and all of us had a great time. It was quiet enough that we could hold a conversation without raising our voices. The lunch menu is outstanding. I had the soup of the day (Poblano Chile with potatoes) and the Salmon Crepe. Both were delicious. As a bonus, there is plenty of parking for the restaurant since it is in a shopping mall. I highly recommend this restaurant.

We've been going to La Bastide Bistro for a few years, but this was the first time that we took our 15-mo-old daughter. We had a very good experience. We asked our server to describe a couple of the cheeses that we weren't familiar with and chose the San Simon as the one most likely to be enjoyed by our toddler. My spouse ordered the short ribs as his meal and I had the scallops. The ribs were delicious (daughter couldn't get enough of them) and the mushroom risotto served with the scallops was a perfect complement to the sweet little seared medallions. Overall, we really enjoyed our meal and the staff were very accommodating of our child. Since they cover the tables with paper, they provided crayons that she could scribble with before the food arrived, so that kept her happy until we could let her eat. We won't hesitate to take her here again!

When La Bastide first opened it was good and we went many times over the years. Now, there is no positive remark I can offer. The salad was very lame with wilted greens and a sorry chunk of hard crouton with a dollop of goat cheese on one side and the crab cakes tasteless with a lot of filler and not much crab. Very overpriced for the quality of food. The music was rock and the TV loud.... I could go on with details but they are not positive comments. Cannot recommend for any reason.

The quiche is really good. The steamed clams is inconsistent - it was so good last time, I came back just to have it again. Alas, this time it wasn't fresh and it had a lot of sand. I had high hopes for the Crêpe Suzette but the crepe was simply too thick. I like mine thin and crispy (at least around the edges). Might come back for the quiche.

I Googled "French Restaurant, Scripps Ranch" for a client Thank You Lunch and didn't realize until my GPS took me past the location I had in my mind when I made the Reservation that I had made a mistake. It turned out to be a very Pleasant Mistake, a Thursday Lunch in April, the dining room was about 1/3 full. The service was friendly and efficient, the food was excellent and I will return and perhaps even give it a try for dinner. Getting Lost this time was very much worth what we found...

This restaurant has a great selection of unique French food. The scallops were great, the chicken dish was dry but tasty. Our service was horrendous unfortunately at only 5pm! The restaurant was practically empty and we rarely saw our waiter who forgot our water after asking and we had to flag down other staff. The service scarred the experience but I'd try it again and hope they step it up.
