This is not the same place we have visited in the past when we went to Toronto. It used to be excellent, with a great crowd, professional waitstaff, and stunning food. I remember coming in to find the half of the people in the restaurant were speaking Italian; the food was bound to be authentic!
Apparently the same family still owns the place, but it's not the same. The food was good, but not great. The service was abysmal. Getting seated was almost an afterthought by the folks there, and although our waitress was very personable and very nice, she never looked up when she walked through the dining room. We literally had to wave down someone when we needed help. This happened repeatedly throughout the evening.
It was telling that there were only a few people in the restaurant. This was on a Saturday night. In the past, if we were there on a weekend night, the place was slammed. No more.
I guess I can see why. We have now crossed this place off our list of places we like to go when we are in Toronto, and we've been going back to this place for a lot of years. Too bad, this place used to be a treat.
Extremely accommodating with the menu, and meals were fantastic.
Very good authentic Italian food, loved it as always which is not often enough
Always delicious! Much attention is paid to my allergies & I am so appreciative to have a neighbourhood restaurant that prepares safe food for me.
We have only ever had fantastic meals at La Bruschetta! Excellent Italian dishes cooked with confidence and served with pride.
Good. A slightly aged and worn neighborhood italian restaurant with a family owner feeling. The mushroom pasta was perfect, great sauce and lots of mushrooms. A little shy about garlic. The lamb-stuffed rigitoni was rich and filling. Fine salad and good light dressing. Didn't like the radio (!) for background music and talk. Really? Also, we were at first seated directly under the speaker even though there were many other tables. After we were moved, the two servers were dedicated and efficient. Pleasant but not memorable. The owner sat at the bar in the back all night looking at receipts and the calculator. She never once looked at the customers and had a frown on her face every time we looked her way. She sat briefly and had a few laughs in a booth with what looked to be a group of her friends. OK if you are in the neighborhood, otherwise not worth a trip.
Delicious food and excellent service. Our waiter was very welcoming. We enjoyed our dinner.
Worst service ever! Rude staff and mediocre food...I would never go back.
Very good pasta dishes and meat dishes. No chicken dishes.
The service is very slow, the food is average, nothing to rave about. We will not be going back.
At the end it took over 15 minutes to pay the bill.
Food is awesome here. Wines are good but pricey. There should be a couple of options in the 30 to 40 dollar range. Otherwise excellent little restaurant.
Nice quite experience. The service friendly and warm.
We visited for the the first time for a Birthday celebration. It happened to be during Summerlicious. It was extremely busy! Despite reservations many people with reservations had to wait quite a while for a table. With limited space, pepople were crowded around the front of the restaurant and around our table. We were seated at our table and Summerlicious menus were on the table. Our Server vanished. We waited quite some time for a Server to return. Given our lack of greeting and how busy they were, we assumed the Summerlicious menu was only available. Our order was taken. Our Sever tried to run away, but we asked for a drinks menu. Our Server suggested a bottle of wine, and we never saw a menu. The food flew at us in different courses. It was delicious! After our dessert flew at us, we realized no drinks would be offered here either. We apologized to our Birthday guest, asked for the bill which took a long time, and had coffee and liqueur elsewhere. We noticed that the regular clientele were treated VERY differently! Menus were given to them and the Servers seemed quite attentive. We were ignored, which sadly tainted our experience. The food was very good, but our impression was that this is strictly a local establishment.
One of my favourite places to dine in Toronto. A legendary menu that offers classic and authentic italian style. The cusine is fresh, rich and filled with flavor. Each dish resonates with the professionalism and talent of the chef - who has obviously paid attention to every detail. I Love this place and am already planning my return visit.
Had a great Valentine's Day dinner with my girlfriend. The waiter was friendly and attentive and the food was delicious and did not take long to arrive. Very good value for your money. We will definitely be going back.
My fiancée and I visited La Bruschetta for an early Valentine's Day dinner date. The food was exceptional and our server was very attentive and friendly. We have been to this establishment in the past with my fiancée's father for afternoon get-togethers and it always provides a great atmosphere. Overall, a very good experience!
We went during winterlious , they had a good selection on the menu and everyone really enjoyed their meal. Service was good although the restaurant was not very busy. One minor item was that one person in our party was not able to finish her meal and was looking to take what was left home. The restaurant said they did not have any containers to pack the food in so she had to leave it?
We had a great winterlicious meal here- some great items from the full menu and some delicious specials. It was a very busy evening for the wait staff, but we still felt attended to.
Went here for a dinner date during winterlicious, walked into the restaurant you could hear a church mouse was that empty. The owner I assume still had her winter coat on not too inviting. Mind you this was on a Friday so not a good sign during winterlicious for it to be that empty. We asked if we could eat off the regular menu we were told "no it's a small kitchen" which is understandable it seems during winterlicious. We ordered our meals the, we got bruschetta to start that was really good not too much dressing which was nice and got bread with it that was cold and butter in a container. Next was the salad, which was probably one of the better ones I've had with pears and walnuts with a sweet dressing, really good. Next was the main course.... we ordered fettuccine with chicken sausage, we asked if they could make it spicy she said yes..... well.... food was really really bland by the looks of the plate we could tell it would taste good. Chicken sausage was cold, the cheese on top resembled the cheese you would get in a pizza lunchable as a child. Did I mention the food was bland? Very basic pasta sauce with no flavour we had to ask twice for pepper. Best part of the dinner for me was the pepper that was stuck in my teeth, was the most flavourful part of the main course. My girlfriend didn't finish her meal wanted the plate taken away cuz it smelled bad. Dessert was good though she enjoyed the tiramisu was done well. If you come to this place just come for the salad and dessert but I wouldn't recommend it.
A quiet evening in January. Very tasty meal. Quiet, so great for conversation. Went away happy
We usually like the food at La Bruschetta, but our last experience was not pleasant. Horrible service - and we were one of only two tables in the whole restaurant. They messed up our order (after we waited forever to get our meals), and the pastas were all bland. Maybe they hired a new chef? Not up to par. And the waiter should have been much more attentive!
Service was a little too laid back - two off us had soup and salad and one a pasta dish. We were long finished our soup and the pasta dish was almost finished before the salads appeared. I had wanted to go to this restaurant for along time - the food was good - soup delicious - but though the place was not busy - I got the impression the waitress did not give a hoot about us....
No reason to go back....
We arrived at the restaurant at 4 minutes to 6 and our reservation was for 6pm.
The entire restaurant was dark and the doors were locked. Instead of standing on the street in the cold we went else where to eat.
As it turned out when we left the other place, the restaurant had opened. Just a bit odd that it was pitch dark 4 minutes before our reservation time.
Terrible service. Took a half hour before anyone brought us water and wine list. Over an hour to get our food. No soap in bathroom.
Food was good but service was really lacking! Had to ask for water every time , were not told the specials, never asked if we wanted coffee, tea or dessert. The restaurant was maybe 1/4 full!
Great food and good family service, will definitely come back. Would be nice if they can also serve decaf coffee / lattes.
The very first thing that happened was that we were greeted in the most friendly manner. What a wonderful start. My wife and I were with my nearly 98 year old grandmother. We were seated and the treat of an evening began.
Friendly chatter / banter from the two people who served us.
I'm gluten free, so to find out that I was able to eat most things on the menu was fantastic.
The food was a touch slow to come out but wowee was it worth the wait!
The food came and just... it was great. All three of us loved it. What a great experience.
The food was fresh. Delicious and wonderful.
Seasoned perfectly. Cooked to perfection. Fabulous.
A warm wonderful experience, and you better believe we will return!
Great restaurant, best italian food I've had. To highlight some favourites best carpaccio in Toronto!!! Handmade gnocchi is "little pillows of heaven". Bruschetta bread which is complimentary for the table is devine.
Sylvie is a treat!!!
Simply outstanding! Authentic Italian food like my grandparents would have prepared. The bruschetta was fantastic. My mouth is watering just thinking of it. Silvia was friendly and funny. She recommended a pasta with mushrooms for me and I loved it. My husband had one of the specials and our friends had a rigatoni pasta. All were superb.
It is well worth the drive from downtown Toronto. Can't wait to go back!
Food was great, staff was friendly, attentive and accommodating. Been coming here for years and always a pleasure. My family particularly enjoy the personal touch given by Silvia who follows in her father's tradition of making guests feel warm and welcome.
Perfectly cooked pasta. Authentic regional family dishes. We will be back.
Service was slow, we almost left as we felt we were being ignored. Tables sat after us got drinks and food before we even got asked if we wanted water.
Not our first visit and the food is always good, which is why we tolerated the service.
The food did not disappoint.
Excellent food and service was friendly and courteous
Overall, it was very good. We went for Summerlicious and the menu was fixed. The pastas were delicious and portions generous. The price was very reasonable for the quality. The food was great, although I gather from locals that the regular menu is even better. The service was very friendly but a bit disorganized, as all three waitstaff worked our table, but did not communicate well with each other. We would definitely go back.
Came for summerlicious. Nothing too special. 3 of 5 of us had pasta, and they were overcooked and not aldente. The fried basa fillet doesnt look appealling, and is rather small as a portion. In my opinion, all the starters, the ribs and the bruschetta were great. The desserts weren't bad, but it wasn't good either. Customer service was on par. The only reason why i selected "I would not recommend" is because in my opinion, is not as good to a point where i would tell my friends to specifically go there for their food. But theres honestly nothing wrong with this restaurant. I may just be more picky when it comes to stuff like this.
Kind and friendly staff. Delicious food! Overall we enjoyed dinner very much
Will not go back
Needed ask for wine glasses 3times then received water glasses for wine
Took 1.5hrs get appetizers
1hrmain course.....then main course was wrong...
Night from hell
The service was easily the worst I have ever experienced at a sit-down restaurant in Toronto. The food was good, the ambience was nice, but we waited 30 minutes between each course and an hour for the bill. The waiters had horrible communication between each other, and a short-haired woman working behind the bar was rude from start to finish. Not to mention, we had a reservation for 6:00, they arrived to open the restaurant at 6:15... the whole restaurant smelled like gas for the first 30 minutes because they didn't get there early enough to turn the stoves on before guests arrived.
Loved the atmosphere here, a great family-oriented business with photos of the owners on the walls when they were young and in love in the good-old-days. It felt very comfortable, and I definitely could have spent some time just sipping and grazing away!
My dining experience at La Bruschetta was mediocre. I went there with a friend as it was part of Summerlicious event. We looked at the menu beforehand and liked the fact they had a variety of choices.
Upon entering the restaurant, we noticed that it was about half empty. However, we were greeted right away by the hostess. Given that we went here for the Summerlicious menu, we ordered shortly.
I had the tuna salad, pork ribs and panna cotta while my friend had the calamari salad, tortellini and tiramisu.
Both our salads was way too sour - drenched in a lot of lemon juice, in which we didn't even finish. The pork ribs were super salty to the point it was unbearable - I had to down a few cups of water. I tasted my friend's tortellini and we both agreed that it tasted like microwavable pasta. At this point, we were both super disappointed and dreaded our dinner. Our dessert came after and it was a disappointment as well - the panna cotta had a very sugary syrup on top (kinda tasted like cough syrup) and the tiramisu lacked coffee flavor.
For the price we paid, the quality of food was sub par at best. Definitely overpriced!! We are for sure not coming back to this restaurant.
