   La Chaumiere was an amazing setting for our eighth anniversary. The ambiance was romantic and quiet for a packed room, the service was polite and reserved, and the food was extremely delicious. I recommend ordering a bottle of wine with your meal, the bottles were so reasonably priced, with almost half of their wine list being $60 or under. We had a standout wine for $45. This place has been on our list for a while, but now that we've dined once, we are eager to come again.

   Server forgot to take one person’s order and then didn’t place a soufflé order. Both salmon and Dover sole were dry and tasteless. A horrible experience.

    A cozy and comforting experience. It felt as if we were indeed in a Chaumiere (a little thatched cottage). An elegant 360-degree fireplace in the middle of the room and beamed ceilings made for an intimate feel.

    As guest of a dear friend, we celebrated my 85th birthday at La Chaumiere! It was delightful. A must order for me again at La Chaumiere is the liver and which is cooked to perfection. The ice cream puffs always a delightful way to finish the meal. Can't go wrong with any dish here and now it is almost soft shell crab time. Stay tuned and I will tell you if these are as good as they were previously.

    The cheese souffle and chocolate souffle were fabulous. The quenelles were light and fluffy,like eating a cloud and the accompanying lobster sauce was just perfect! A wonderful place for dinner!

    Food and wait staff were great. We did encounter a slight inconvenience of having to go upstairs to our table because all of us were elderly and have ambulatory issues. Otherwise, we enjoyed the evening.

    My only regret is I don’t come to La Chaumière as often as I could. A quaint space with white table cloths, professional servers, excellent food, and a large wine list with a sizable offering of bottles in the $40-60 range. That’s just amazing in DC. Well done and thank you.

    Food was excellent (as usual) but the service, usually very good, was not at its best, with food starting to arrive forty minutes after we arrived, and wine spilled by the waiter. We were celebrating a birthday and all that was offered was a quiet "happy birthday" at the end of dinner, after we had paid. For the price paid, a little more would have been expected.

    I have eaten at La Chaumiere for years, and it only seems to get better all the time. It is my favorite restaurant in Washington DC: excellent food, service, and ambience. As the old Michelin guide would have put it: "worthy of a detour. "

    Been coming to La Chaumiere since the 1980s. Food continues to be good, French country food with good ingredients. Flavoring of my rack of lamb could have been better but seafood dishes were excellent as was the Hors d’oeuvres (charcuterie, chicken sausage. The Grand Marniere soufflé had been better in the past but this time while the structure was great egg flavor dominated. Restaurant was crowded on this Friday night with staff run ragged. Overall, good but not exceptional.

    Classic service with recommendations. Wonderful mussels with chilled calamari as great shared starter! Enjoyed hard to find Sweetbreads, and Marinated duck breast that is so tender and tasty. Uniquely a return visit to a favorite in 1979-83, great to be back!

    I went there for the cheese soufflé and they were out of it. Our waiter was like a robot and not friendly. All he said was Are you ready to order? Not friendly! They make you order your entree when you order the appetizer. I felt rushed

    We live in Pennsylvania and visit DC on a regular basis. We try different restaurants on each visit and this weekend it was La Chaumiere. The restaurant is very much like an old french country restaurant. They have a great menu, amazing food, great crowd, good service. . . On this night the noise level was high energy because of a couple of high energy tables but I am guessing it is more moderate on any other day. Great wine list, unique specials which makes it hard to choose your main course.

    Wife’s birthday, which was noted as was a request for a table near the (centrally located) fireplace; instead we were initially seated at possibly the worst table in the house, in the far corner where two diners would face the plain back wall. (Poor seating is a recurring theme of OT reservations.) Despite advertising additional space between tables in response to Covid pandemic, tables seemed jammed tightly, more so than only one other experience in DC dining over five decades. Food was excellent and the service was attentive without being intrusive. Management (Martin) called me rude and suggested I needn’t bother keeping my reservation for questioning discrepancies between common definitions, OT, and the restaurant’s web site in regard to valet parking, validation, and the attendant cost. He personified a common complaint about French service, which I found unfounded in multiple river cruises in France, including visits to Paris. He was most inhospitable, but I’m glad we persevered and proceeded to have a nice dinner.

    Always a favorite for us in Georgetown. First time we could return in several years being away and with COVID. It did not disappoint. Pike dumplings, escargot and shrimp and scallop fricasse all splendid as was the chocolate soufflé dessert.
