La Cigale Bistro serves French cuisine and is located along West 4th Avenue, in Vancouver's Kitsilano neighbourhood. We focus on locally sourced, sustainable and seasonal ingredients that showcase the best of BC. We strive to offer an authentic dining experience while using modern and innovative plating techniques.
We took fixed menu on Sunday, very nice food with reasonable price. Would visit again.
I usually go to la Cigale for lunch, rather than dinner, if only because it is one of the quietest restaurants for lunch that I know, but less so for dinner. The food is a very good rendition of a classic French bistro. Last visit, a few days ago, I had French onion soup and moules frites. All was excellent although the frites were a little disappointing, being room temp rather than piping hot. The room is lovely and the service was excellent. No hesitation in a very strong recommendation for this Vancouver classic.
As usual - lunch was wonderful. We had the omelette.
Excellent food (best French Onion Soup ever), large portions, extremely good value for money.
I love this place! The food is exceptional, and the service is easy-going and unintrusive, although still attentive.
Excellent service and food. My girlfriend and I always meet at La Cigale for brunch on Saturdays or Sundays. It is our favourite place.
Great food and friendly service! Thanks
It was pamper Mama day~ we were a bit of a rush because of traffic. The representative was very nice and friendly and we definitely feel the care. Food was delicious and will definitely return to try out more on the menu~
Several of the menu items were not available and the food and service were very average. Not worth the prices being charged.
Another great evening with friends at a casual, french restaurant with very good food!
Delicious well presented courses with generous portions. Highly recommend!!!
Excellent evening. Will definitely return.
The French Onion soup was perfect fir me. However, the egg on my salmon benny was kinda over cooked.
We enjoyed our dinner there with another couple. The duck was great and so was the pasta. Glad that the chef can accommodate those who are lactose intolerant. The service was good and the ambience was great. The salad portions were quite big.
My family spent a good time here to celebrate wedding anniversary. The place is truly a neighborhood gem. Very friendly services and good food. Highly recommended to people. The place is kind of small. Good for single, small family or couple.
The setting is intimate and cozy. The food is authentically French. The food selection is limited, but varied and easy to find something to please, likewise with the wine. We'll be back next time we're in Vancouver!
Cuisse de canard rôti très délicieux, le préféré de notre famille.
Amazing little french bistro on West 4th! Our meal was rich, creamy, buttery and our accompanying wine paired perfectly with the meal. The Seafood Linguine was my favourite. Service was excellent. Only complaint was they were out of quite a few things from their already limited menu. (Don't get me wrong, I love that fact.)
Would be back for more! This place is perfect for quiet and intimate meals.
My onion tarts was delicious- could have
made a meal out of it.
We had a steak that was done to perfection. And the seafood pasta was rich in flavour, plenty of seafood and a generous serving.
An outstanding restaurant which consistently delivers an outstanding cuisine at reasonable prices. I’ve eaten here several times and have never been disappointed.
The set menu was great, awesome duck confit
Excellent food with great prices
Enjoyed 2 lunches and wanted to try dinner. Food is tasty. No complaints about the penne from the menu and clams from the daily special were all fresh and cooked to the right doneness. Garden salad was large enough to share between 2 people; the greens were crisp and the dressing very pleasing. Service is very efficient, and courteous.
My first time here, me and my friend went for the brunch. Nice place nice ambiance, had the Pain Perdu it was very delicious, oh so fluffy french toast, loved it. Server was friendly, will definitely be back.:)))
Food is good for the price.
Service was not quite there though. Missed one of our entree order and asked our party who happened to order that same dish to start sharing first while wait for the missed order to come.....
Ordered our desert at the very beginning of dinner service, only to inform us of a item running out when it's time to bring up the desert...
We have a bottle of wine and server never ever topped up any of our party's wine for the entire night....
Service was slow as well...
While the food at this bistro never disappoints, special mention should be made of the service received on a particularly busy Tuesday summer evening. The restaurant was a bumping 3/4's full, and had but a single server working the room. Despite the apparent imbalance, attention and service were delivered to each table evenly, effectively, and with aplomb. The meal was, as always, exquisitely prepared and presented. The accompanying attention to detail and individual needs was particularly appreciated.
3 course prix fixe - braised beef and chocolate mousse were excellent. Onion tart had too much goat cheese and was more like a pancake than tart. Not enough onions. Onion soup too salty.
The atmosphere was very good, the food excellent, making the reservation was easy, a wonderful meal all around. The only drawback is that it took some 45 minutes to arrive, so give yourself time, we were almost late to our later errand, as we didn't expect this huge of a delay in producing an omelette.
Great restaurant in a lively neighbourhood. We had the fixed priced dinners on a Sunday, and chose duck, braised beef and mushroom penne for our main course. All nicely done. As for the appetizer, we particularly liked the French onion soup.
The only down side to dining here is the parking but with a bit of patience and allowing for extra time, it is possible to find free on street parking.
This was my second time dining there ! Great experience feels like eating in Paris with best value food and good customer service!!
Definitely go back!!
We had the 3-course meal and it was very worth the money. Food was great, and service was awesome too. Would definitely return!
Excellent service. Duck and beef checks were outstanding, but mussels were not fresh at all. Overall, a good place.
Lovely, intimate restaurant with the BEST French onion soup and bruschetta I have ever had. The service was wonderful and the prices were extremely reasonable. I will definitely be back then next time I am in Vancouver.
I highly recommend the Duck and the French Onion Soup. The salad is enough for 3 or 4 people to share as a starter!
Definitely will go back!
I took my family here for early Mother’s Day dinner on a Thursday, we had the 3 course set menu for $32 per person. French onion soup was yummy, the duck confit and beef cheeks were amazing, the creme brûlée’s and cheesecake were impressive! Everything was delicious, we will return!
Actually we enjoyed our meal. Our main issue was the parking!
There was a party of about 25 male adults and they were making a lot of loud conversation. Although we were seated at the opposite end of the restaurant, we still had to speak loudly to my party of four to be heard. The restaurant had close to 40 guests dining, and there was only one waiter. He was pleasant and attentive, although a bit rushed. The food was good, consistently so, I have been there a few times within the last year. Tuesday evenings, you can bring your own wine with no corkage fee. Most restaurants do not have the selection of wines I like, and I like bringing my own bottle of wine. Overall, we had a pleasant evening despite the noise, which, to be fair to La Cigale Bistro, the din was unusual. That party of revellers was going to attend a special event across the street and that I understand was a very special event. The other times I had been to La Cigale Bistro, the noise levels were manageable. The Prix Fixe menu for a three course dinner ia an exceptional menu. They had all the choices available despite the crowd, and they were all consistently good. I would rate the food 3.0 to 4.5 stars out of 5 depending on choice. It's not Bishop's, but for the money, the one of best deals around, particularly on Tuesday evenings.
Excellent service. Great quaint casual French restaurant! Would go there again!
The fold was greater and overall experience good. Too bad we were there on a Saturday and couldn’t take advantage of the fixed price menu. My husband had the duck which was crispy and delicious. I had the steak frites which was huge! Portions are generous and wine great!
