La Cigale is one of our favourite restaurants. The quality is always consistent & delicious food. Especially liked the cauliflower & gruyere appetizer. Yum! We live close enough to walk so always easy for us to get too.
Always a pleasant place to go eat / drink and have a nice time. This visit was definitely one of the highlights on my partner's birthday.
Enjoyed lunch with the onion tart and mussels with fries. Too many fries, but better too many than too few!
Good lunch spot on 4th
I recently celebrated my birthday dinner with a couple of friends here. It was a Tuesday so we brought our own champagne and wine. Our server was very welcoming and professional, and the atmosphere was warm, quaint, and quiet which was perfect for catching up. The food was delicious! After 3.5 hrs of an absolutely lovely dining experience, we all left feeling completely satiated and happy. Thank you for providing a lovely space to gather in these interesting times. We will be back!
Delicious food! Nice wine choice! Will definitively return!
All bad & so sad. We had been regulars & then as owners/chefs changed we went less often & hadn't been in for a year. We booked a table for 6:30, arrived to find there were 4 tables of diners all spaced out for covid. We realized right away that the waiter was working alone & waited to have our drink order taken. When she arrived to take our order she mentioned 4 menu items that were no longer available, bit surprising when the menu is so short as it is. When she returned with our drinks, I ordered 2 appetizers instead of a main only to have her return to inform me that they were now out of 1 of my choices. I decided to have the duck cassoulet & we asked for the wine list to choose a couple of glasses of wine. We were informed of 4 wines by the glass they didn't have, however, we ordered our wine & watched the only waiter turn away 3 walk in groups of 4 ppl. She claimed they were fully booked. She delivered some food to us & I had to ask her back to confirm that my food was indeed what I had ordered. Cassoulet, French, slow cooked usually in a small dish, rich in flavour. Nope, apparently not. It was a skinny duck leg on a plate with a side of white beans & a "salad" of shaved veg. The farmers sausage, listed on the menu, nowhere to be seen. I mentioned it seemed to be missing when I told her I had never seen a cassoulet like this 1. She promised me it was "inside" the duck. Nope, so she went to the chef to get the sausage & returned to inform me they were out of sausage & he would send out some special bacon. Never happened, so she said she would take it off the bill. During our dinner no one else arrived, I asked if she had refused the walk-ins due to being out of food, no, she was too busy, she said. In the end I had the chocolate mousse for dinner, duck was never taken off the bill. I know times are tough but this place is sinking itself. 6 tables on a sat night. That is sad. We will now eat elsewhere each week to support local.
Fabulous, rich French food! What a delightful find for lunch. We'll be back!
Very nice place. Fusion food, French/Canadian.
The 35$ 3 courses menu offer is an absolute bargain. Everything was fresh and delicious.
Service was very good with a very nice waitress.
Small friendly place. Covod safe.
Will come back !
The food was very good and the service excellent
Very good service. Appetizers good but mains Very good
C'était très bon! Nous avons bien mangé et rigolé!
Amazing experience, food, service, vibe... just amazing experience!
Waitress was not knowledgeable and sloppy.
This small restaurant on W 4th is authentically French; the only thing it lacks is some floral or other decor at window level to make the view onto the pavement outside more attractive. Food and service are very good.
Great meal with outstanding service
Very sweet server and the food was really good with a large portion. I was able to take half home. We went for brunch, and I ordered the mushroom omelette without bacon, and was happy they accommodated the request.
Croque monsieur was mmmtasty. I give it 3 thumbs up and 1 yum.
A lovely restaurant. We were nervous about dining out during Covid-19, but La Cigale handled the extra health needs perfectly, plenty of room between diners, and our server wore her mask and kept her distance. Our dinner was scrumptious, a great way to celebrate our anniversary.
Service and value was good, but the menu is not very well put together.
Excellent food, rich and creamy in the best French tradition. Wonderful service.
It’s the first time we’ve been out since Covid hit. The experience was absolutely amazing. We went for brunch on Father’s Day, and There was no problem at all with physical distancing. We had brunch for four people, and every mouthful was amazing! Eggs Benny, the French toast, the sandwich, and the omelet were perfection. I am definitely going to come back here again, particularly since it felt safe.
The duck confit and the beef cheeks were cooked perfectly.
Great food, good wine and excellent service. Would highly recommend.
Great neighborhood French cuisine. The food was good!
Great experience. Especially given it was their first day re-opening during COVID. Definitely felt safe and well taken care of.
Onion soup is must try. I also ordered the onion tart with goat cheese . This is the first time I tried something like this. Surprisingly this is so delicious!
Duck confit is also must try. Braised Beef cheek is super tender. Finished with baked berry crumble with ice cream. Sour and sweet is perfect match with each other. Bravo!
Great restaurant and great food. Predictably good and reasonably priced.
We always enjoy our dinners here. especially great is the free corkage evening of tuesday...BYOB of beautiful wine from home and enjoy it with great french bistro food. We shall return soon!
La Cigale offers great value for their authentic and healthy French brunches. Highly recommended.
Expected a French bistro to have small portions, but the portions were huge to the effect that we realized after the first course came in that we had ordered way too much food.
For exquisitely prepared classical French cuisine La Cigale is an outstanding choice. It is an excellent restaurant with surprisingly reasonable prices!
The restaurant was quiet which made it easy to hear each other. The service was excellent, the food very good. The decor could be improved, it seemed very dated, but overall, a very pleasant experience.
I absolutely love the food and service at this bistro, and I've visited here for numerous past special occasions with my partner.
I consider La Cigale one of my favourite restaurants in Vancouver.
Nice French little bistro to grab a lunch or brunch
We took fixed menu on Sunday, very nice food with reasonable price. Would visit again.
I usually go to la Cigale for lunch, rather than dinner, if only because it is one of the quietest restaurants for lunch that I know, but less so for dinner. The food is a very good rendition of a classic French bistro. Last visit, a few days ago, I had French onion soup and moules frites. All was excellent although the frites were a little disappointing, being room temp rather than piping hot. The room is lovely and the service was excellent. No hesitation in a very strong recommendation for this Vancouver classic.
As usual - lunch was wonderful. We had the omelette.
Excellent food (best French Onion Soup ever), large portions, extremely good value for money.
I love this place! The food is exceptional, and the service is easy-going and unintrusive, although still attentive.
