La Cuchara updates its menu daily to offer the best quality produce and provisions available, and features a pintxo station, craft cocktails & a wood-fired grill.
Friday & Saturday 5:00PM-11:00PM
Coming up on a two-year anniversary, we had been recommended La Cuchara by a friend who said “the atmosphere, service, and seafood are out of this world”. My expectations, however, may have been set a little too high. The ambiance was nice, welcoming, and unique, but not truly spectacular since it is part of an industrial complex right next to the light rail. The hostess was kind and inviting, but our server was so soft-spoken we barely heard her and the manager did not ask how everything was throughout the entire meal.
The biggest disappointment, however, was that the seafood I heard so much about was not available—the only fish filet on the menu was a rockfish (one of my all-time favorites), but they had already sold out for the night. Keep in mind this was a Wednesday night, when the place was nowhere near busy. Because I had already paired our wine and ordered some appetizers that would complement a fish entree, I already had my heart set on a seafood dish yet I ended up getting the calamari appetizer for my main course, a truly underwhelming dish.
Of course, the wine was fine, dessert was tasty, and the appetizers were fun to share. But when the almonds (yes, almonds) were the most impressive item we tasted, that’s just not a good enough reason to come back. Maybe we will try again in another couple of years, but definitely not for a special occasion.
Incredible menu, best ambiance for a fall date night, and the pintxos can’t be beat!
Everything was on point. The food, service and ambiance were excellent. The staff was knowledgeable and well trained, which made it such a pleasant night.
For the first time in the many times we have dined at La Cuchara it was not good. The lead server didn't listen and tried to rush the entire dinner service. The support servers weren't any better. Some problems -- failure to provide utensils with appetizer plates; failure to pour wine properly; failure of receptionists to assist in getting a replacement chair for one of our guests, etc. These are but a few of the problems we encountered.
A spectacular taste of the Basque region of Spain right in our own Baltimore!
Very busy night so very noisy and crowded, but that was part of the fun ambience. Had to wait for our reservation but didn't mind. Waitress was alternatively friendly and distracted and, in fact, forgot one of our tapas orders, and never did bring it, despite reminders (we later discovered that we were charged for it) Wine is good but pricey. Despite the high energy noise level, it is a great place to dine and talk with friends without feeling rushed or dismissed. A favorite.
Not a regular patron, but came here for a date night and had a very good time. all the service was excellent and the food was absolutely incredible. the price makes this a special occasion spot for me but it's well worth it for that.
Great restaurant. The most authentic Basque cuisine in this part of the US. They even have great Txakolina!
The cheese and ham platter was generous and delicious. The mushroom and cauliflower dish and the scallop dish were perfectly cooked and excellent. We enjoyed both cava and red wines. Conversation was possible—not noisy. Good service and let us linger over our wine.
We love La Cuchara any day of the week, but especially on Sundays. They offer all-day happy hour at the bar and half-priced bottles of wine over $100. Food tends to come quick once ordered so it's good to pace your ordering. Love their breads, cheeses, and primeros. The patio is awesome when the weather is good.
Jamon croquettes were potato with microscopic pieces of Jamon. Was hoping for fresh razor clams and sardines, not canned.
Thought it was boring and pretentious. Too expensive for what it offered. Very noisy inside. Fortunately we sat outside. Food offerings were limited and unimaginative.
Really good food. Nice wine list, but a little pricey by the bottle. The wood-fired grill ensures breads and anything roasted is wonderful. Great service. You can make a great meal of just pintxos.
Another amazing meal at LaCuchara! We were celebrating our 8th wedding anniversary and it was so very special with great food, great wine and amazing service! Thank you Red for making us feel like family.
it was our 3rd time and it was OK.. food OK.. presentation of food..dull and boring .. service nothing great.. had 4 people giving us different water.. celebrating 2 birthdays.. nice complimentary desert. probably wont go back
Food was very good as usual. A bit disappointed this time around as the restaurant was very cold inside. We asked to have the door going outside to be closed. That did not last long. Service was not up to their high standards as we previously experienced. We had different waiters and they seemed perplexed at times as to our requests. This time it seemed staff was overwhelmed. Unfortunately, this experience put a damper on our evening. We will come back and request next time a table near the kitchen.
We had a great time and really enjoyed the food at our recent visit to La Cuchara. We loved the Basque flavors and the traditional Spanish classics!
Overall the food was very good. The only compliant that I would make is some of the dishes were a little too salty for our tastes. The wine list is outstanding but limited on the lower end.
The food was good but the service left a lot to be desired. Overall it was an okay dining experience, expensive for what it is, but the service made it a negative experience. I would not recommend it based on that.
Always have a great experience here. Brit is an amazing server and Red, the sommelier, helps us select wines to pair with our food which are delicious!
Big fan of woodberry kitchen. Didn’t realize this was related, but should have. It’s great! Servers know the food well. The food was great. Such a cool building. I really enjoyed it!
Fantastic experience at La Cuchara! The lamb shoulder and scallops were excellent and the tomato bread and cheese were excellent as well. I would highly recommend it. The price was also fair.
This was the 6th time we've dined at La Cuchara ( having just been to its name sake in San Sebastian, Spain).
It never disappoints.
This was our second time to eat at this restaurant; the first was shortly after they opened, and it was not a positive experience. Consequently, we waited quite a spell until coming back, and our hopes were high.
Unfortunately, although the service and the ambience were both good, the food was not. Specifically, the chanterelle mushrooms were so garlicky and salty that they were barely edible. The potatoes bravos were well-seasoned, but under cooked. The salad was delicious; the croquettes and the rockfish were just OK, but the aioli on the toast that came with the rockfish was rancid. The dessert was a happy surprise… But all in all, the food left something to be desired.
We really want to like this restaurant, but it the restaurant seems to conspire against us.
We will give it one more shot sometime in the future. Hopefully it will not be three strikes, we’re out.
another amazing meal! The food here is consistently great from starters, dinner and dessert. We started with she shrimp and scallops and they were so flavorful and cooked perfectly. Then we got the rib eye and it was so good and melted in our mouths. We ended the evening with the candy bar and boy we were really impressed with the delicious-ness. We are always so impressed with the food and he service here and it by far is the BEST food in Baltimore 🤗❤️
We had such a wonderful evening. The food, the service and the table outside under the stars! I regularly bring out of town friends and everyone always walks away talking about when they will come back. I have so many favorites, so I am not objective, so I asked my cousin and she said her favorites of the night were the croquettes, scallops, the steak pintxos and oysters.
Food is always good. Service is hit or miss - I wouldnt recommend sitting outside or else the waiter/waitress seems like theyve forgotten about you!
Enjoyable evening. Good food, service and atmosphere.
Unique menu, took us back to our honeymoon in Barcelona. Great service, delicious food.
We loved the atmosphere and the eclectic menu items. Great wine list as well. Attentive and friendly staff. A true gem of a place!
Chose La Cuchara for my birthday night out and we will definitely return. The food options were original, delicious, and fresh. The menu changes daily, but the ribeye seems to be a constant and it was exceptional. Also had rainbow trout stuffed with mushroom duxelles and wrapped in jamon serrano — so. good. The charcuterie tray was delicious and the mixed drinks well-crafted. We went on a Friday night and it got very busy very fast and unfortunately was LOUD (also had a wedding reception going on in the section next to us), but the food and service warrant another future visit.
I took my friend and colleague to dinner to celebrate a wonderful and richly deserved success she scored recently. The bubbly flight was perfect for the occasion. She thought the waiter-in-training was *so cute*, being young, earnest, serious, trying really hard.
We closed the place down, even with limiting ourselves to the veggie options the food was divine - the eggplant sublime. Presentation was excellent, and we were not rushed out either when we were the last of the stragglers to leave. Bravo!
Yummy inventive food that you don’t get everywhere. Wine recommendation was spot on.
The food and the service were exceptional.
Food is fine but sadly the service has not been as good as it was before. Things seem to take time these days. There were many servers but they just kept walking by and didn't clear our empty plates. I use to recommend this place to my friends but now I make it a point that they should be aware that the service has been somewhat unreliable for at least six months now. I like the food but unreliable service can really tick me off. I would have loved to order dessert and even an aperitif, but it took so long for our server to come back to take our order that when he finally returned, I simply asked for the check. Sad. Anyway, I really hope it will be better.
Great food, service and restaurant would go back in a minute
Staff was extremely courteous, and the dining experience was, as always, amazing.
My date and I were greeted warmly and taken to our table. The manager who seated us and our waitress (Jessica) were outstanding. The manager stopped by several times to ensure that everything was going well. The food selections were wonderful and everything we ordered was well prepared and presented and tasted great. We were seated at a table for two and the small table became quite crowded with plates but we managed. This was my second time at this restaurant and I would go back again and again. We plan to introduce friends to the restaurant very soon!
Our second visit did not disappoint. The food and service were both excellent, and the atmosphere was pleasant.
