I was very disappointed with the service we received. I have been twice before and loved La Cuchara.
I will remember to never come again on a Sunday evening. There were multiple dishes that the kitchen was out of. MOST importantly we received VERY poor service and probably would have ordered more food if we had received better service.
Excellent food and service. Look forward to coming back
Birthday celebration and everyone enjoyed themselves.
This place is awesome. To me this is the best restaurant of Baltimore!
La Cuchara never disappoints! Everyone always has a good time.
Have had an excellent experience every time I've gone here, and the most recent was no exception. Everything was delicious, they were very helpful and accommodating.
On two different occasions I dined here, both times with great pleasure. Eating appetizers tapas style at the bar was reasonably inexpensive and delicious. Eating a multiple course meal was better still.
Excellent ambiance and service. The food was delicious. Definitely will be back.
Service and attention was perfect. They even noticed based on my comments that it was my husband’s birthday. They surprised him with dessert.
The food was really good and we enjoyed the variety.
Outstanding experience. From the moment we walked in the door, until our departure we were made to feel like we were the only ones there. Food was SPECTACULAR!
I was disappointed by the Mother's Day brunch. They ran out of two of the main course options on the Prix fix menu and the available ones were underwhelming (and a bad value... Think my party subsidized earlier diners). Service was inattentive, forgetting an entire order, and making offers ("want me to get you a chair for that car seat?"), only to forget about the follow through. It was the end of a busy day, though, so willing to cut some slack. As mentioned in another review, the kids menu was embarrassing.
We had a lovely Mother’s Day Brunch. I like their food, and the offerings were not the usual fare, but still very good.
I was very disappointed with the team's ability to handle children on Mother's Day. Not all kids are 3 years old. They offered a grilled cheese, buttered pasta and one other juvenile dish. My daughter ordered a starter of the mixed price menu and we were charged full price. My son saw french bread displayed and ask for a few slices and they said no. I was shocked. I knew going into the process that there was a fixed menu and was told that there was option for kids.
The food and service at La Cuchara are consistently top-notch. It's become my go-to special occasion restaurant in Baltimore.
Pricey, but great all around
I don't know why it's taken so long for us to get here (oh yeah, kids). We had a great time! Between the service and quality food, our anniversary evening was a huge success and very memorable. If not for the special occasion bottle we ordered, the meal would have been well priced too. The Mackerel is delicious though I wish it was made in-house. Loved the bacalao. My wife's halibut out-shined my Lamb shoulder but that was only because the Brussels were less then tender. Hazelnut Flan?...I'm so happy that was at our table. We laughed; we cried; we recalled why our love is so good and strong...sipping Catalonian wine and rewarding our taste buds.
It was fun and delicious...as usual.
Great ambience. Great menu good options. Friendly helpful staff
The food and wine were amazing! Brit and Carly were super friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. The sommelier was attentive and patient and picked out exactly what I was asking for from the very long, and very impressive wine list. Overall me and my date had a great time and will certainly return.
I don't normally write reviews but I think I need to this time. Let me start with the food and service are impecable at La Cuchera! We had shishito peppers that were perfectly cooked not to spicy except for only one pepper and we were warned by the waiter that one in fifteen would be hot and he was dead on. For our entrees we both got the lamb shoulder. This is where the story really starts. It came with brussel sprouts and a butternut squash puree. The lamb was delicious, just rare enough but so tender. Cooked perfectly. The brussel sprouts weren't cooked enough but it wasn't really a big deal because the rest of the meal was perfect. I had a whistle pig rye also. Get it, it pairs great with the lamb. We told the waitress about the brussle sprouts just to let them know, we weren't complaining. That's when the superior service kicked in. The manager came over and wanted to know what he could do. He was upset that the side dish wasn't perfect. Such devotion to details. He brought us more shishito peppers and another whistle pig rye to appease us and as expected he didn't charge us for them. We had a really great experience there. You need to experience La Cuchera if you've never been and make sure to get the brussle sprouts under cooked!
This is not an inexpensive restaurant, however it is very good and you can fill up on pintxos and primeros if you like. The ingredients they use are excellent, wine list and desserts heavenly.
Had a wonderful meal here on Sunday with family. We started off with the pintxos, one of each (all were good, but the smoked beef bocadillo was a deal!), then had the blistered shishitos, 2 types of conservas (mackerel and clams), and patatas bravas (excellent). I started getting full, so I had the braised lamb in a mini pot for dinner - excellent!
My husband had the short ribs (this was the only minor disappointment - very little meat, mostly fat), one son had the asparagus and the other the scallops (the beans could have used more pizzazz). The desserts were incredible - meyer lemon whipped confection, the chocolate "candy" bar and a sorbet (on the house!). Great espresso.
But the standout of the night was the wine...we had a bottle of the Ribera del Duero Reserva 2012. Opulent!
Fantastic service and food! The atmosphere was also wonderful for a date night.
It’s the 2nd time we’ve been there in 2 weeks.
We love it
We have season tickets to the Hippodrome and are always looking for new spots to have dinner before show-time. Stopped into La Cuchara upon recommendation of a friend. We were surprised to find this lovely restaurant tucked away in Woodberry. Décor and ambiance was upscale but relaxing, perfect for either formal or casual dining. Our waitress was attentive and informative regarding the menu and paid special attention to accommodating our pre-show schedule. LOVED the personal attention regarding our wine recommendation which resulted in our table ( 3 people with very different wine preferences) swooning over an amazing bottle of French red. Food was delicious! I enjoyed my large, perfectly fried Crispy Oysters while sampling the succulent Lamb Shoulder from my boyfriends plate. Ended the night with a creamy, sweet Roasted Banana Sorbet (to die for) and light, oven fresh churros that rivaled those I used to enjoy back in Southern California. We will be coming here again and again!
A veritable feast. My date and I got wonderfully cozy on the same side of the booth and sat back as plate after plate of delicious and unique plates were brought for us. Tried all the pintxos and followed with a couple of appetizers and split an entree. The flow of the meal was amazing as a bevy of different textures and flavors came one after the other. Especially loved veal tongue bocadillo and morcilla. Steak for the entree was cooked absolutely perfectly I can respect a place that has the integrity to actually serve the meat rare when you ask for it. Service was fantastic and our waiter was very knowledgeable about the wine list and menu. We had several different management types ask us how our meal was going. Vibe was unpretentious and the space inside with the high ceilings and open kitchen made for a wonderful atmosphere. Will definitely be back in the future.
There were good reviews for La Cuchara on Yelp so I thought it would be a great date night spot. We dined inside which was very loud, mostly because the tables are so crammed that you practically have dinner with your neighboring table. Service was pretty disappointing. We waited almost 20 minutes just to get drinks ordered... then another 20 for our wine. When we asked where the wine was the waitress said she was waiting for our main dishes to be served! HUH? That is a first! Either they had strange wine serving rules or she made up an excuse as to why she did not bring them yet. The appetizers were yummy but the main dishes were very “messy”, everything was squished on one plate. It was very salty as well. The lamb shanks were extremely fatty! For the price they charge, I expected i bet better service and quality of food.
My wife and I were given a $150 gift certificate by our daughter and son in law for our 22 wedding anniversary. they thought that we would enjoy the restaurant, the service and the food. The cheeseboard First Plate for $21 was outstanding. The main courses were delicious. We almost never have desserts, but could not resist the roasted banana sorbet. Wonderful experience. My double espresso was the period at the end of a really nice experience. And, were gladly went over the gift certificate amount. We shall return!
Love La Cuchara! This is a very thoughtfully composed menu of food and drink, with outstanding offerings of bites, small plates, and entrees. Tonight’s roasted cauliflower with honeycomb was so odd we had to try it : what a treat! My friends and I are adventurous eaters, and we always feel like we are rewarded for trying new things here. Drinks are great, with a helpful sommelier in addition to the knowledgeable wait staff. This place is becoming a favorite!
Great service and delicious food! Thank you for making my birthday extra special.
Good food. Server attentive but a bit slow. We will be back.
Wonderful meal and great service! Calamari and Lamb shoulder were cooked to perfection!
This place hasn't disappointed since they opened. Great food, wonderful wine list, open and airy, very good service. Just a great fun spot.
The food was very good for the most part and our waitress was a gem. The hams are wonderful, the calamari was good and spicy, and the scallops were amazing. Will come back.
Kudos to la Cuchara! My husband and I enjoyed a return date-night, pre-Symphony visit and were - as always - delighted with both the food and the service. Crispy Brussels Sprouts, ham croquettes, lamb shoulder and - quite literally - the BEST scallops I've ever had! The portions were larger than we expected but we had a cooler in the car and the left-overs, only slightly embellished, served three of us for dinner the next night. The food is unfailingly fresh and beautifully prepared and presented. The staff at la Cuchara are knowledgable, professional and attentive - and we're getting to know them by name as they have greeted us since the second time we came. Thanks for another great meal in B'more!
Hadn't been back to La Cuchara in a while and sat at the bar for some drinks and happy hour snacks. Had a great time, loved all the food, and our service was warm & attentive. Definitely will swing by again soon!
Loved the food, atmosphere and service and the Wine list had wonderful choices. The only criticism I have is the overlapping of some of the items on the menu… Peppers were repetitive with our choices for appetizers and some of the smaller plates. If I would have known the peppers were served with so many items, I wouldn’t of also ordered a bowl of chili peppers LOL!
Delicious food, excellent service.
We enjoyed our meal so nuch that we just couldn’t stop ordering food! Amazing and thank you making my wife’s birthday a special night.
First time patrons, and I promise we will return. Everything was delicious and the staff was friendly, attentive, professional, and informed. Since it was our first time and there was six of us we all ordered something different so we could taste everything. We loved it! The ribeye was served with oyster butter. The short ribs were mouth watering. And the lamb shank was hands done everyone's favorite. I should note that my husband left his jacket at the coat check so we "had" to come back. Unbenounced to us, Sunday is happy hour. So more goodies, for less money. Homemade bread!!!!!
