La Grotta is tucked away in the heart of the Buckhead residential district and overlooks the lush gardens of the condo courtyard in which it is located. La Grotta literally means "the cave" in Italian and was named such for its cavernous and warm setting. The La Grotta staff is also well known and regarded for its vast knowledge of its customers, the food, diverse knowledge of languages (our staff speaks Italian, Spanish, French & German) and attention to detail. The menu specializes in Northern Italian cuisine with seasonal changes to reflect freshness of ingredients with a focus on locally grown produce.
Best Italian restaurant in Atlanta - by far. From wait staff to the food - always enjoy dining at la Grotta as we have been for the past 32 years!
Great meal - Great Service!
Good not great by any means. Not memorable good or bad. I wish I could say it was better.
The food and service were outstanding. We were visiting Atlanta from Knoxville and this place was recommended by some friends in Tennessee. It was tucked away and from the entrance looked a bit old. When we got off the elevator, it felt very dark and romantic. Then walking into the beautiful dining room and looking out at the terrace, blew our mind. The wine menu was reasonably priced, considering I own a restaurant in Knoxville, Tn. I knew price points. We ordered a beautiful Brunello D Montalcino Luce 2012. But then I asked my server to have Chef prepare something to balance this wonderful Italian wine. The Chef created an amazing Veal that complimented exquisitely! Bulent, our server chatted with us as the dining room began filling up. The desserts were a beautiful display and our entire experience was amazing. Thank you everyone for a wonderful evening. Till Atlanta again, Cheers!
Great waiter, delicious dinner it was perfect for our family celebration. The Torta de cioccolato Rustico was amazing.
La Grotta is an Atlanta classic and always provides some of the best service and best food in town. It is never a disappointment!
Real-deal, authentic Italian restaurant, tucked away in the heart of ATL. The best Italian food outside of NYC. Great service from a tenured staff. Not to be missed.
In my initial reservation I requested a candle and piece of cake since we were celebrating my sons 15th Birthday. It was even confirmed vie a nice telephone call on August 07. Everyone from the staff congratulated my son upon arrival, but I was very disappointed when no one actually bothered to bring the cake nor a candle. I didn’t bother to point it out.
Still a classic! Wonderful food, service and experience. The ambiance may seem to be dated but it matches the authentic vibe.
LaGrotta never disappoints. Outstanding food. Outstanding service and attention to detail. A favorite and a classic.
Amazing food, amazing service!!!
We were regular customers at the La Grotta Ravinia, but had not been to the mother ship ie. the Buckhead location. It did not disappoint, food, atmosphere and service were all very good. Rather small so make advance reservations.
This is our go to place for celebrations.
LaGrotta is the best northern Italian restaurant in Atlanta. The food is always wonderfully prepared and they are happy to prepare things not on the menu. I especially appreciate how they accommodate my onion and garlic allergy. The waitstaff is very experienced and professional. Always a perfect meal.
Everything about our dining experience was outstanding; the food, the wine, the service, the ambience! What a lovely evening in my favorite place with my favorite people. I’ve been a fan of La Grotta since their opening, and I have never been disappointed.
We always love LaGrotta!
I have dined at LaGrotta 6 times—including this time. We have always enjoyed a great meal there and wanted to celebrate our 36th wedding anniversary with another great meal. Unfortunately—things have definitely changed—not for the better. We were greeted initially with “Happy Anniversary “ at the pedestal—but our special occasion was NEVER again mentioned all evening. Disappointed—as we expected for our Waitstaff to at least congratulate us.
The shaved artichoke salad I ordered was extremely bland, and the jumbo shrimp pasta dish was watery.
My husband ordered a veal piccata—which was perfect, but his salad was pretty boring—even though he asked for capers to be added—they were not, and the salad had no taste.
We live in the neighborhood—and were so happy to have a great Italian restaurant to walk to.
After this experience—including extremely slow service—-and inattention——mediocre food.....we won’t go back.
Really sad about this waste of an evening.
Our waiter/server, Tony was awesome, fresh bread/salad, veal was tender and delicious...recommend LaGrotta to anyone!!!
Great food and service!
Food was excellent, service was okay. Felt like we were being rushed out because we had one of the last reservations of the day. The woman who worked the front door was incredibly rude and rushed us out the door and acted like it was an inconvenience for her that we were there.
Amazing experience and incredible food! Would highly recommend to everyone!
Great restaurant not you everyday Italian.
Been in business since the 70s. Great view out back.
The ambience and food beautiful. Wine and cocktail list is extensive and impressive. Very nice and unique dining experience. Only complaint is that our reservation was for 9:45pm, we were seated upon arrival, and were told that kitchen closes at 10 and felt rushed to order. Other than feeling rushed it was a lovely experience.
As always, La Grotta did not disappoint. We enjoyed a delicious meal and everything was perfect!
Probably my top choice of restaurants in Atlanta since they opened their doors so many years ago. One of my guests said that her salmon was the best she had ever had... and we know we've all had a lot of salmon and she's not a kid. We shared three desserts... all amazing, but the creme brulee one of best ever. Enjoy!
The ambiance was romantic and upscale. The lamb chops were fantastic. Our server wasn’t as attentive as he could have been and it felt a bit pricey, but other than that, it was really great.
Tex the server was awesome! Great food from Chef as always.
Best restaurant in Atlanta!
We went to La Grotta for our 35th Anniversary. We were seated promptly, sat at our table for what seemed to be five minutes before a waiter came around. Ordered a glass of wine for my wife, again think they forgot us. Our waiter did a terrible job of explaining the special, he said look at the menu and add Halibut to it. Did not mention the appetizer special. Our waiter spent most of his time at the table to the left of ours, never came back to see we needed more wine (probably would have ordered 2 more glasses). The waiter to the table to the right of us thoroughly explained the specials to that table and really made them sound good. When we were finished another waiter came by to clean off the table (another wait time), we asked for our check, it was probably 10 minutes after the Matre'd brought over to us.
What a sad experience and on top that our 35th Anniversary. I sent a message to them hoping to hear something back, nothing. We were not looking for anything just wanted to share how bad our experience was, never heard back. SAD!!
Awesome food and great service.
La Grotta always delivers an exceptional experience. From the hostess greeting you, to Rebecca the bartender pouring a good drink and providing a good laugh you feel very welcomed into the space. And the food is always phenomenal!!
La Grotta was, once again, a beautiful experience. The ambiance, food, and service is simply the best.
The food was excellent but the portions were small. The waitstaff was knowledgeable and pleasant. The Bar tender was on top of it and made some really delicious very boozy drinks. The stratosphere is cozy but somewhat fancy, great parking, and the restaurant is on the ground floor of a hotel building.
Got was out first time at La Grotta and we had booked the date for our anniversary dinner. This place didn’t disappoint. Great experience and the food was wonderful!
Elegant setting, hand-made pasta and home-made sauces made La Grotta a Must Visit for any trip to Atlanta. I got truffles added to my pasta which takes it to another level. The desserts were outstanding and delicious. Overall, an unforgettable dinner for my family. We will definitely find another reason/occasion to come back to La Grotta again in the near future.
La Grotta is a very quaint restaurant in a not-so-obvious location. It is located in the basement level of a residential high-rise; this adds to its "specialness." The food is excellent, as is the wine selection. Definitely try a dessert. Service is terrific. The dining room is small, so if you plan on going, you should reserve well in advance to be sure you get a table. It seems to book up fast, and given the ongoing high ratings, this is understandable. There is free valet parking in the front circular drive; just look for the signs.
Amazing service and Unbelievable food!!!
Overall, very nice experience. Food was very good, but traditional, nothing really new and creative. Service was very attentive, but lacked emotion as he was kind of stoic, but this may be by design. Very "old school" feel to the place. The wine list is very extensive.
Delicious as always. The food and service are top notch. One of the best in Atlanta.
Always a great dining experience. Definitely one of the best restaurants in Atlanta
