Went there on the STRONG recommendation of the concierge at the hotel AND after reading Baltimore Magazine’s stellar review.
This is an excellent choice for a good, authentic, traditional Italian meal. Great house-made pasta and a very good filet. The vodka sauce was the best we’ve ever had. DO NOT fail to order the Gorgonzola cheese bread...it’s a religious experience. Everything seemed very fresh and the flavors were spot on.
Our waiter was like something out of Central Casting. An older Italian gentleman who’s worked there for about 20 years. He was attentive but low-key. Just right.
The place was full, yet pretty quiet. The crowd seemed to be comprised of well-to-do couples on double dates, numerous business diners and a couple of pretty good sized groups of 20-something’s. Seemed to be all locals. Everyone well-heeled and well behaved. This place is fun - not staid at all - but NOT the place for a rowdy, loud party. ‘Nuff said.
The decor is exactly what you would expect from an older, traditionally upscale Italian place: nice, dignified, quietly comfortable. Nobody’s trying to push the envelope either with respect to cuisine OR ambiance. And, you’re like us, that’s just dandy.
As we were making our way to the door, we casually mentioned that we intended to call an Uber to take us to a locally famous gelato joint. They INSISTED on having us driven to this establishment in their own shuttle bus. (They offer dessert so the gelato place is, in actuality, a quasi-competitor of theirs). The polite, college-age driver then drove us on to our hotel. This is an example of old-school class.
We had a memorable meal in a quiet, comfortable setting at a reasonable price. What’s not to like?
We’re going to be back in Baltimore again soon and we’ll be returning to La Scala.
My husband and I have dined at LaScala on many occasions and are always very pleased with our experience. The servers are among the best, the food is amazing and I love that Chef Nino comes out into the restaurant and greets the guests. We love the atmosphere and enjoying an after dinner cocktail at the bar. The valet parking is very convenient as well. We highly recommend taking a trip to LaScala.
Food was great, and the service was excellent. Fantastic atmosphere.
Great place to have an amazing Italian dinner, service was great and we would recommend this place for a date night.
Had the chicken and shrimp special which was outstanding. Service impeccable! Homemade hazelnut cannoli was perfect. Highly recommend.
Excellent food and service.
One of the best Italian restaurants I have eaten at in the last 10 years and I have been to a lot of them!! Fresh Pasta that was too good to be true but was, honest to goodness HOME-MADE Canolis that were heavenly. Not a bad meal in our group!!!
We met my daughter and her husband there for a family get together. They have not been to Little Italy for several years and never been to La Scala and were excited to visit the restaurant with a Bocce Ball court. To say they were impressed would be the understatement of the year. We all raved about the food and delicious sauces the were prepared in, and the menu specials suggested by our waiter, who is very informed and helpful. My wife and I debated about the right Pinot Grigio wine and he settled the discussion with "if she likes it, you'll like it, end of discussion. OK?". Very Italian. We all enjoyed his demeanor and hospitality. The new video screens and pictures was very impressive and reminded us of our trips to Italy and Sicily. A very nice touch as is the Chef greeting us and actually serving our appetizer. My daughter and her husband said they will make this their favorite go to dinning spot in Little Italy for all future visits to Baltimore. He has ownership, investor interests in three (3) restaurants in the Washington DC area, so to impress him, is saying a lot.
Wonderful dinner followed by a competitive game of bocce with our teenagers after. Voted a favorite by all. We will definitely be back.
This has always been one of our favorite restaurants when we visit Baltimore. So, a couple of things did not go according expectations. First we ordered a Italian wine on the eloborate list. The waiter stated that this particular wine was not available and steered us to one comparable. We were satisfied with his choice. When we ordered the second bottle, he opened and poured a different wine. When we confronted him he just rolled his eyes. Another couple were dining with us and one of the tuna entrees was over cooked. They did send the meal back and it was quickly replaced . We just felt with two huge mistakes that the Restaurant would have either taken the wine off the receipt or given us one complimentary dessert. But, no extra effort was made. We paid our bill, but were very disappointed.
Great atmosphere, service was outstanding!
Everything was great except the food. Both our meals were swimming in sauce and were just ok. I’ve had better calamari for half the price at a sports bar.
We found this place a few months ago when we were in town for a mini getaway. We came for another little getaway and to celebrate our anniversary. It certainly did not disappoint. Nino is awesome and made sure to great us and ask if we enjoyed our dinner. Of course we did. I highly recommend La Scala to anyone visiting this area. We will make this a regular stop when we come to town.
Went for my girlfriend's birthday, just the two of us. They placed us in a nice romantic spot to ourselves and were very attentive to us, even though we were a little out of the way. Perfect dinner!
Antonio was our waiter. He was fantastic Wine selection was excellent. Will definitely come back
Waitstaff and ambience continue to be outstanding. Was very disappointed that cocktail sauce remained watery and tasteless. Apparently the restaurant doesn't read Open Table suggestions.
Best Italian meal! Great cocktails (lemon drop and Manhattan), great straatccia soup and grilled ceasar, great gnocchi (try half cream and half marinara) and perfectly tender saltimbocca with very good cognac sauce. The service was excellent and helpful. Can't wait to go back and recommend to our friends.
Outstanding overall. Our waiter tended to rush us when we wanted to have a relaxing meal. Loved the video show. Enjoyed talking with the owner. A definite "must" in Little Italy dining.
The food was very good. The restaurant was active and lively, though the bocce court spectators a bit loud at times. Overall very good food and good service. Our family was visiting our son , a freshman at one of the local universities. Seems locally they ask everyone under 40 for ID when ordering a drink with dinner. I don't object to them asking but at La Scala AND other nearby upscale restaurants the tone they ask for id comes across a bit cold and terse, like they are annoyed.
My wife and I went here for our first anniversary. We brought our cake topper for desert, which the host took care of immediately. The wine list was impressive, and the food was above our expectations, and all for a very reasonable price. I'm very impressed with La Scala and I'll be recommending them to anyone looking for a romantic evening.
Our server was outstanding! Meals were perfect! We will return for sue when we are. Wick in the Spring. Great wine list too!
Dinner on the balcony was lovely. The only downside to the meal was the filet. It was perfectly cooked but chewy and hard to cut. Just a bad piece of meat.
Large party backed up the kitchen and it took2 hours to get our food. Food was great but took way to long
Food was good. Our server was pretentious. Everyone in our party enjoyed their dinner. Good selection of wine.
6 out of 5 stars!
My wife and I made reservations through Open Table the week before as we were visiting Baltimore for her birthday. We got caught in a downpour blocks away from our Inner Harbor hotel walking to dinner and got soaked to the bone. Got back to the hotel and called the restaurant 10 min before our reservation and they said no problem pushing back the reservation a bit and their shuttle would pick us up in 15 min at our hotel. We quickly changed and we are so glad we didn't miss our reservation.
The shuttle picked us up and upon arrival the host immediately showed us to our table. The waitress immediately welcomed us and congratulated my wife on her birthday. I thought I had our meal planned from the menu on the website, but the waitress informed us of the specials and recommended we reconsider. I am so glad that we did!
I cannot remember what we had, but the waitress let us take home a copy of the menu and wrote down what we had (on a note that I don't have with me right now, lol). She even volunteered to take a picture of the 2 of us to document the birthday meal.
Our dinners were fresh, delicious, and just exceptional.
From the staff, to the chef, to the ambiance, to the food it was a perfect meal (that started off completely dreadful with the weather). Exceptional food but more importantly it is paired with exceptional service!
Great service and food! We went with a group of 9 and the staff was fabulous! Highly recommend!
We were out of town visitors and made a reservation for our wedding anniversary, based on Yelp Reviews of restaurants in Little Italy. The restaurant was vibrant, particularly for a Tuesday evening. We were greeted to a nice quaint table in a small room with an anniversary card waiting on the table. The service and food were very good. We were very happy with the choice of restaurants.
Awesome for the past 20 years. We have a great time every time we go!
We were picked up at our hotel. Nice service. When we arrived it was like they were waiting for us. We expected higher pricing and was pleasantly surprised. Food was amazing and paired with a nice and reasonable Chianti.
Outstanding restaurant with great service and food!
Never disappoints. The red sauces are a bit better than the cream sauces but both are good. Caciatorri was just spicy enough to get our highest marks. Chef Nino visits your table - and may even serve you your food!
Family owned restaurant, and it shows. Owner came by table twice to check on us. Our two dinners consisted of an Italian seafood pasta and a whole fish branzino. The fish was carved table side and was so incredibly delicious. That dinner alone is worth the trip! It is definitely enough to share by two people. A complimentary desert was brought to the table. Nice touch!
First time dining here and we loved it. It was actually outlet first date and it was exactly what I was going for. Had a great ambiance without being overtly and obnoxiously romantic, dim lighting and an intimate table set the perfect mood. I had heard great thing about this place from my manager at work. I am a fine dining server and this restaurant definitely does it right. Great food great service and great value definitely will return.
Overall, our party of 7 was pleased with the food and especially the service. Since we had two vegan guests we would have liked to see a couple of vegan entrees including non-egg pasta.
Service excellent. Food I had was ordinary, nothing outstanding. I expected more from the pasta. It didn't seem as freshly made as I thought it would in this highly rated restaurant.
Lady who was overseeing restaurant scolded an employee in front of customers. This made my evening very disappointing from an enjoyment and comfort standpoint. It's appropriate to pull employees out of sight of customers to criticize.
Two of us had veal dishes that were extremely chewy. Not what we expect extend.
The sauce on the veal, crab, shrimp dish was superb. Best veal dish I ever had. Not inexpensive but worth it!
So many fantastic choices on the menu plus mouth-watering specials make it hard to decide what to order. Attentive and friendly wait staff.
Love coming out of an Italian meal not stuffed
Business meeting with key stakeholders. Great overall experience and will definitely come back. Chef Nino and his staff do a consistent phenomenal job.
