La Societe Ratings and Reviews
We were 5 people for brunch and two of the orders came at least 10 minutes before the rest. Also, the lobster Benedict was exceptionally stingy on the lobster considering the $29 price tag.
Not sure if we will return.
We were in the private dining area. The food was generally good. The first course came out quickly. However, we proceeded to wait about an hour for our mains when the restaurant was empty. When the mains came, my hamburger bun was crusty due to sitting underneath the heat lamps for too long. Fortunately, the restaurant apologized and quickly switched it and gave the table complimentary dessert.
Our waiter was great and the food was delicious as well
Definitely will be coming back
Tasty, timely and lots of attention. Thanks for a great evening!
Always consistently delicioust food and excellent service.
The ambiance of this place is the primary reason to visit. The food is pretty good and the service is about as good as you can expect, considering the number of guests the wait staff has to manage. This restaurant seats a lot of people. The patio is nice during the summertime and is my favourite area to sit. Not the best French cuisine you'll even have, but worth a visit!
Lovely place with an enjoyable atmosphere, but slightly hard to access. We'll trained, attentive staff. Great wine list. Wonderful items on the food menu, but the selection is a little small. Can get a little pricy after a few wines, so wouldn't suggest it for everyday dining.
La Societe has a real French Bistro feel. It's decor is a reminder of Bofinger in Paris.
Food is fine although the service is always a little slow.
In Summer, they open the doors and have a number of tables on the terrace one floor above Bloor Street.
I went to La Société with a friend who was visiting from Vancouver. We studied French together in university so I thought it would be fitting to have dinner together at a French restaurant.
The ambiance was inviting and the service was impeccable. I was very impressed with information provided in the wine menu and was able to choose a wine that would pair with our menu selection. You have to try the Duck Confit!
It was a wonderful experience and meal for the both of us. I will definitely come back on my own or with a friend—I’m definitely a repeat customer! Thank you!
Wed lunch: nice restaurant, French bistro, finishing a bit worn. Once seated had to request a server after sitting for 10 min. Ordered drinks and decided on appetizers and mains. Drinks did not arrive. We ordered food, my choice was unavailable, switched to salmon. I like my salmon med rare to med, was assured by server that it would not be overcooked. Wine and drinks arrived at the same time. Appetizers were good, wine was good, drinks good. Salmon arrived and was med well. I asked them to redo it, med rare. My partner was almost finished his main when salmon reappeared. This time it was seared about 2-3 mm in and sashimi temperature on interior. I ate the ends of the fillet only. Wine glasses constantly empty. Asked to see maitre’d, showed up in about 10 min after conferring with server and bartender! Overall very poor service and unimpressive kitchen. Lots of much nicer places to enjoy lunch!
great bar for drinks with friends downtown TO
It is a great place to get together with friends. But gets pretty noisy.
The food was really below par
I always look forward to going to La Société because the food is excellent, and the service is consistently good. The décor is inviting with its mosaic tiles and stained glass, making it a pleasure to be there. It is the ideal spot for out-of-town guests as it feels and looks special. When you go, do try the steak frites, or the duck confit.
Had brunch at La Societe. It’s a beautiful vibrant space. Many great food options. Great service!
The brunch was very good, I got the buttermilk pancakes and really enjoyed the elderflower twist, they were very filling and a good portion size. My friends got the eggs benny and quiche and both really enjoyed the food, I tried a bit of both and the eggs benny was way better than your average eggs benedict, the quiche was also good but nothing notable about it. We ordered mimosas which were the perfect addition to our sunday morning brunch.
I normally love eating here, but this past SATURDAY (DEC 16) food was nearly bust. My seared foi gras was end of lobe, overdone, COLD, and ugly presentation. My friend ordered the torchon, and it was so thin it broke on her fork as she tried to eat it...not what you would expect for $26, $18 appetizers respectively...too bad
Great food and great service
Pleasant astmospher and comfortable seating
Excellent qualities throughout, but it's greatest strength is in it's post art-deco atmosphere. I've been to quite a few very fine European bistros and this is the only one in Toronto that made me feel like I was back in Prague, Budapest, Paris. It's on my Top 5 List for T.O. Don't forget to look up! It's amazing.
Loved the room, very Parisian, but boy it is unusually noisy, which can be fine but not for this group. The food was good overall, but it all seemed a little chainy to my mind, the service was less than impressive a little too fast and furious. For me now that I have experienced it once I would unlikely go back or recommend to a friend,
It was ok but will not return. We were there to celebrate a birthday and had wrote it in reservation and nothing was acknowledge. Ordered lobster Benedict and had very little piece of lobster. Not worth 29$.
We visit often for brunch and felt as though we were forgotten by our server as we waited quite sometime for our orders to be taken.
Hopefully this was a one-off.
Friendly helpful waiter - food dependable if not imaginative
Good busy atmosphere without being too loud
I have had nice brunches at La Societe so I was excited to try their dinner menu. Given that it was my birthday and I'd indicated that in the reservation, it would have been nice not to be seated next to the kitchen. We felt very removed from the ambiance in the main dining room. The food was good and I would go back to give it another try. (I'm keen to try other dishes on the menu.) Our server was friendly, just inexperienced.
A beautiful tres French atmosphere with banquettes, tiled floors and a stained glass ceiling. The server was attentive and friendly; making excellent recommendations. Fois gras was to die for. We had the steak frites which were done medium rare, exactly as ordered. A lovely dinner with friends pre-concert...We were happy that we dined early as the place got very noisy at prime time.
A very beautiful restaurant. The foie and mussels were delicious.
Always enjoy going to La Societe. Service was excellent this time but can be spotty at others.
Great food, service and atmosphere. We will definitely go back again.
Gorgeous ambience, terrific service, ordinary food but the music on the speakers was far too loud. We asked to have it turned down and although assured that this would happen, it didn't.
I was able to make a reservation day-of, which was very helpful. Great food. Trendy. Atmosphere was perfect - not too loud. Great place to catch up with some friends and enjoy a quick bite/drinks.
$1 oysters are always good. The caramelized onions ruined the burger for me.
Our waiter was extremely polite. He got us food that wasn’t even on the menu and was very attentive. I wasn’t in the mood for anything on the menu and the kitchen okayed a half lobster on its own! My girlfriend was picky about the dessert and he didn’t bat an eyelash to please her! Very pleasant staff! Will frequent this spot often! Thank you to Thomas (our young Italian waiter) for being a dream and making us very comfortable! Good service should never go unnoticed!
Overall very good, but one entree arrived cold and vegetable side dish arrived after main course was finished. And it shouldn’t take 15 minutes to make a latte. Several miscues in an otherwise excellent experience.
The restaurant itself is very nice, food is outstanding. Service is very slow, it was hard to get our waiter’s attention, multiple times we ordered from another waiter. We waited too long before getting our first drink. Overall amazing place and great food; only problem is the slow service.
We had a girls dinner there on Saturday night, our server was Zach. He was great, knowledgeable and witty. Matt was our sommelier, also good but a little more reserved. The food was amazing, lovely space. No complaints!
Great service and great food! That combination is sometimes hard to find. Staff were professional and didn't rush us. The apps were more pricey than expected but the main dishes were reasonable.
Despite reserving a week in advance, we were seated behind the bar. Granted it was quieter there, but not much ambiance. Next time I would request a table in the main area overlooking Bloor St. Food was very good, a little overpriced, served in a timely manner. The bread was amazing.
Excellent brunch and stellar service. Highly recommended!
