Located in historic Gastown between Gaoler's Mews and Blood Alley, built in the 19th century on the site of Vancouver's first jail and originally buttressed to the city's main butchery and meat packing district, the name L'Abattoir pays homage to the neighbourhood's colourful past.
Set in a refurbished brick and beam building combining classic French tile work with industrial fixtures and natural wood, the restaurant offers a bar and lounge, elevated dining room and a plush, light soaked atrium as well as private dining rooms.
Chef/Owner Lee Cooper is dedicated to highlighting the finer points of eating & drinking in L'Abattoir's informed but informal setting. Service is expertly orchestrated to be unpretentious yet refined by Restaurant Director, Lisa Haley. The French-influenced West Coast fare is paired with Haley's eclectic wine program and the bar team's innovative cocktail list to offer a truly unique dining experience.

Private Dining

L’Abattoir’s Private Dining Room is a carefully orchestrated yet seemingly effortless affair. The private dining facilities are separate from the main restaurant dining room but the décor is an extension of our celebrated brick and beam style, with sleek, industrial glass and steel accents.

Ambiance and staff as well as the overall look of the L’Abattoir was awesome. The staff were very professional and personable.
Ordered a Adieu Mon Amour cocktail which was very very delicious. Not usually a huge fan of whiskey but this drink changed my mind ;)
As for the food, ordered the quail eggs which tasted yummy but not as good as I expected, admittedly.
The sauce was very delicious, but the meal itself was slighlty underwelhming for the price.
Came with three other friends who also very much enjoyed their drinks and loved their food.
So, overall a lovely experience but the taste of the food isn’t really worth the price attached.

Very attentive service, particularly with wine selection. Food was done perfectly, and presented impeccably. Only downside was the close proximity of the tables.

Great food, but pricey. Found the food wasn't worth the price tag. For two entrees, two drinks, and an Appy, it cost $165 before tip

We had an outstanding dining experience at L'Abattoir last week. The food, the wine and the environment was outstanding. I had the duck and it was one of the best duck dishes I ever had. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who really enjoys very unique dishes and great wine.

We had the smoked salmon tartine which was absolutely delicious though the toasted baguette it sat on, was impossible to cut through (very chewy). Our Mauritius server was lovely (and very courteous/patient with our lengthy 2 1/2 hour brunch). Con: Tables are too close together - I'm only 130 lbs but had to squeeze in sideways between tables to get to the banquette and as such we could hear everyones conversation around us (and them, ours!) The value for the food and service is on point - and while I realize packing in tables means more revenue, the room could lose a table along the banquette wall simply for breathing room. Not sure I would go back for brunch for that reason. (This is my second visit - the first for dinner and cocktails during morelle mushroom season which was very memorable)

Not too many choices on the menu, but all dishes ordered were top quality and scrumptious! Even the bread that came prior to our meal was exceptional! Service was great, servers didn’t push or felt let down when we didn’t order alcohol. Portion was smaller, but the taste made up for the quantity!

I would recommend probably not to put customers to sit close to the bathroom if there's a lot of other seats around. It will the last choice. Overall, good service and good food.

Hadn't been here for dinner for quite a while (brunch only) and happily they delivered big time for an anniversary. I hadn't really enjoyed the last dinner there, found it fussy and unsatisfying, so went for a couple of starters while my wife chose a cold starter and full main course. My foie gras was, well, foie gras, what can you say, delicious and nicely presented with brioche toasts, and enough to share. My wife had the tomato with smoked buffalo curd, everything perfect, from the seasoning of the fresh tomatoes to the crunchy contrast of the rissole themselves. It was fresh, simple, and sophisticated at the same time.
I then had the baked oysters with garlic butter and truffle, five oysters, one bite each and superb. Shared one with my wife and wish I hadn't . . . Her main was the Ling Cod with caramelized buttermilk and mussels. Outstanding. It was such a pleasure to experience great cooking, start to finish, imaginative and beautifully executed. Wanted to take the breadbasket home, and our server (I'm sorry, don't remember her name) was on point with wine recommendations. We'll be back soon.

My husband and I recently enjoyed an anniversary brunch here. Its a beautiful space. He had the Breakfast Burger (quite good but burger was a little too pink) and my Poached Eggs with Canadian Bacon (basically a bacon bene) was delicious with the sabayon sauce; but the dish could really use some potatoes on the side to fill it out. We indulged in some breakfast cocktails; the Orange is the New Black and the Moonwalk were both outstanding.
